Making arrow shafts from the Amur Honeysuckle. Primitive arrow making from natural materials, I really enjoy the process of taking the raw materials that God has given us and through time and effort, turning them into useful hunting implements. Along the way I share the illustration of an arrow being effective like the Word of God.

I too use honeysuckle for arrows sometimes. My initial thought was they would be too light once dry but they were perfect. I’m like you and prefer 550-600 gr for stone point hunting. I found they also maintain straightness a little better than other hardwood shafts with humidity fluctuation. I appreciate your videos as I am a Christian as well as a primitive hunter. God bless you and your ministry!

@Paul Fetter - They really do make a great shaft! Have you had any success with them hunting? I have yet to take any game with Honeysuckle shafts but look forward to the opportunity :) Praise God brother! I really appreciate your prayers, without Christ I can do nothing! God bless you too! In Christ, Jesse

I have not taken a deer with a honey suckle shaft yet. I’ve been successful with cane and dogwood so far, but haven’t connected with the honey suckle. I need to make that happen I guess. I also want to make a honey suckle bow. I attempted it once but it blew up on me when I got down to about 30 lbs at 20” or so...

@Paul Fetter - I see :) I will try them out on Deer at some point Lord willing. I also had the thought of making a Honeysuckle bow! Probably a certain design that would be best suited for it, any thoughts on a design to try?

Well cave men used honeysuckle,.....because after the ice-age that's what they had,.....it was not ideal,... see they actually hunted,....so penetration was all they cared about,.....So with honeysuckle they had bigger around and longer shafts 36- 40 inches and longer because honeysuckle is very light and they needed penetration,... and heavier gets more penetration. As I recall its a light splintery wood that needs lots of straightening,... while green,.... I made a quiver out of it. People make arrows out of rose bushes too. Mostly I use Hazelnut,.....because thats right behind the honeysuckle.

@nakoawarrior3186 Absolutely friend, Honeysuckle and Rosewood are my top 2 shaft materials. I can only imagine how many game animals were brought down by these shafts in the past! Shoot straight and God bless! (John 14:6)

If you wait 3 to 5 days to peel the bark after cutting the shoots they shouldn't split on you like that. Usually works for me with other types of woods as well.

@@primitivepreacher8964 also over the course of a week you can straiten them shafts without heat by bumping them with your palms. Then after 3 to 5 days when you scrape the bark off they will be stright enough to not need heat.

The bible is undoubtedly the Word of God. It's alive, it's unique, it's a life saver - literally. It brought me to salvation and gave me a new and eternal life for which I'm forever grateful. God bless you brother! I didn't even think about honeysuckle shoots, good idea. I have some river cane and walnut shoots that I haven't made into arrows yet. I'm excited to begin.

Hello! I’m in western WI. Are there other plants that work well for arrows ?

@Adamhegemon1 - Hi there! For sure, we probably aren't too far apart! I'm South of LaCrosse. I have used Multi Flora Rose (which is an invasive wild rose), Honeysuckle (which you saw), and several other types of bushes that I'm unsure of their species. Really, anything that grows semi straight and that snaps back straight after being bent will make a suitable arrow. I would encourage you to just take a walk through your local woods and look for straight shoots. I'm sure you will find some that will make good arrows! If i can be of any help, feel free to reach out, gjefle83@gmail.com God bless!

People try to find error in God's word because they are afraid of facing their sin. Oftentimes they love their sin and do not want to give it up. Still others believe they are good and lie to themselves about their sin state. Look up my brother because God is coming for his church very soon.
