LOL funny you say that. Flintknapping has been going on for over 2 million years. And only ended like 10,000 years ago. So for 95% of human history, flintknapping was not just mainstream. It was the only way to survive.

@@sagnorm1863 Even after the introduction of metal tools, flintknapping continued in various forms well into the 20th Century. Knapping in Europe for gun flints and in construction. Chipped glass being used by African-American slaves and later sharecroppers as expedient tools in the Southern US. Not to mention indigenous cultures in Australia and the Americas that continued to make stone tools or adapted to using glass/ceramic.

Hey ryan, ive always been curious about this. Here in idaho i have never found a deer or elk that has had an apparent parasite in the meat(ive skinned and butchered about 8 deer and 2 elk so granted my sample size isnt huge). Im sure they are common in hogs down there but have you run into them with deer?

It's the way he moves. He moves slow and methodically in order to not make too much noise to scare the animals. This method is known as "spot and stalk" and is a well known method for hunting that's used all the time. It's all about not being loud or fast because prey animals react to quick and loud movements and will run.

@@xburninginwaterx7959 It is still novel, perhaps shocking for some to have to hear such violent screams, moreso that it seems to take a while for them to die. Wouldn't a gun drop them quicker? No disrespect on the practice, but maybe even hunters who use guns could be surprised, and surprise is all I say. I don't think this is particularly wrong, they likely would have made those sounds had they been killed by any other animal too.
@Sciencediscovery11
@Sciencediscovery11 Ай бұрын
@ghoulishgoober3122 so it depends a stone tipped spear or arrowhead can drop animals in seconds as seen with that deer earlier in the video. A gun drop animals from shock as arrows and spears drop animals from cutting and bleeding and a well placed shot with these stone tipped tools can take out an animal quickly.

Is there any evidence that the Seminole ever used the atlatal?
@anonymousthesneaky220
@anonymousthesneaky220 2 ай бұрын
The Seminole mostly just used guns. The Seminole were a group of people leaving other tribes and moving south because of how appalled they were by slavery. Native South Floridian populations such as the Calusa had been absolutely devastated by smallpox, and Spanish power in the area was falling apart, so that’s where the Seminole went. By the time the Seminole were really a thing, pretty much all of the eastern nations were using guns.

@@1boortzfan Interesting! I'll have to check it out. I suppose it makes sense that a weapon so important to a culture would still be used, even after the people migrated from their traditional homeland. Especially since, for hunting, arrows were not made obsolete by guns, as they don't make huge noises scaring off game. My understanding was that, for warfare, only guns were used, so I guess I just projected that onto wider use as a whole, which is a mistake. Thanks for the info and the book recommendation!

Just because we can doesn't mean we should. Primitives had to hunt like this because it meant survival and it's the best technology they had. We shouldn't have to watch a bison take several minutes to bleed to death standing up because you can't guarantee the depth and accuracy of your weapon (although both shots were impressive).

Dominance over nature may be a part of the human condition, but only in that we literally are more advanced than other animals despite our limitations. We are physically weaker than any other megafauna, to compensate we have opposable thumbs, bipedal walking, full rotation in the wrists, and the ability to invent things such as these bows and atlatls that dominate the ecosystem. Now guns to hunt.
