Primitive Camping Florida | Starkey Wilderness Park Primitive/Backcountry Camping | NEW Site #1

Recorded March 2021. Here's a recap of my stay at Starkey Wilderness Park primitive (a.k.a. backcountry) campsite #1.
Starkey Wildnerness Preserve is one of the hidden gems of the Tampa Bay area! Campsite #1 is a 3.4-mile hike from the parking area through some changing landscapes ranging from palmetto meadows (is that a thing?) to pine forests. Expect to see deer, tortoises, and a variety of birds and you have a good chance of seeing turkeys, coyotes, and wild boar.
As of 2021, primitive campsite #1 at Starkey has been relocated to an amazing spot! The old campsite was about 4 miles from the parking area, this one is a little over a half of a mile closer and now sits in a picturesque part of the park. This spot quickly became one of my favorite Florida primitive camping sites.
Bring earplugs if you want a good night's sleep because the coyotes and owls can keep you up all night.
