Tip for your garden: You should cover the soil with mulch. That is dry leaves (specially from leguminosae plants and trees, they add good amounts of nitrogen), bark, dry grass, ashes from the fire, almost whatever organic waste you have. It will increase the nutrients and microorganisms. Direct sunlight kills all soil's biodiversity. By the way, I love your videos, I learn a lot from them. Thank you very much! Wild berries- I know all about that. Growing up in a big and poor farm family in northern Minnesota, we picked and preserved berries all freaking summer. Nothing says fun like thinking your long day is done in the hay field only to have mom pull over on a gravel road so we can all break our backs picking wild strawberries in the ditch ( wild strawberries are the size of a dime if your lucky). We picked cranberries, chokecherries, raspberries, strawberries, pin-cherries, blueberries, gooseberries, probably not remembering all of them lol. Not to mention the fungi harvesting - morals, oyster, etc. and then you had the pine nuts and maple tapping. It kept us all busy for sure and mom turned it all into amazing delicacies that could turn a 20 below zero evening in January to a fun and rich evening. She was magical with all that the woods had to offer us- not to mention the protein it gave us all - deer, fish, grouse and waterfowl. A wonderful rich life without tv, phones and propaganda- we were blessed. Thanks for the memory recall Chad! ✌️

Thanks a lot Chad. Sorry to spam it again but you need to see it. I think Oyas/Ollas technic is totally adapted for you, to use less water and be able to be away for days and even longer: This technique uses clay pots buried and covered to prevent water evaporation. The water humidifies the soil around the pot by capillary action at a slow rate and this is enough for the plants planted around to live healthily. This system irrigates the soil for several days and even weeks if the buried pot is large enough. Sorry for my english, i'm french.

i watched something the other day about how you can make your own clay. Really it is all about pouring from one jug to another. It was so simple I never thought about it. All you have to do is mix up some dirt in some water and let sit for about an hour then slowly pour in to another container. The heavy stuff at the bottom is non clay stuff and the milky dirt is suspended clay. The more times you do this the purer the clay becomes. Time does matter as if you let it sit too long the clay will drop. Once you are at your desired level you can let the mixture sit for a day and then pour off the water and end up with a bottom layer of pure wet clay to which left in the sun should make usable.

Hello Chad! Recently, I started helping my grandmother tend her garden and learned that if you water the plant during the day, you need to make sure that water does not get on the leaves, otherwise the sun can burn them. I don't know if you know this, but I saw you watering the pumpkin leaves. Sorry if I'm saying too much, it's just that it was also my mistake, and now I want to save everyone from it :) Sorry for my English, I used google translatе.
@skillfulfighter232 жыл бұрын
I've also heard this, I heard you have to water them in the evening or early in the morning
@ChadZuberAdventures2 жыл бұрын
The reason is because moisture on the leaves can cause mildew to grow but that won't happen in this super dry climate.
@elenaalchemysoul95072 жыл бұрын
@@ChadZuberAdventures As I understand it, the reason is that a drop of water function like a magnifying glass. It collects the rays of the sun and can burn the leaves. That's how my grandmother explains it.

I would try harvesting a good amount of berries and preserve them. You could sun dry them or make fruit leather. Or possibly jams but that might be difficult. You could also try to make alcohol with some, or vinegar. Just an idea. You might also be able to do the same with prickly pear or outhers. You said some of the plants don't produce everything year and I don't know much about sugar bush. But it would probably be nice to have some of them for when it's cold or for the next year
@ChadZuberAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Sourberries can be collected and stored for later use but won't work for fruit leather because they have so little pulp. There are other berries that are better for that.

Fascinating video as usual Chad! It’s cool that you can make wild lemonade. Unfortunately I live a bit too far north to find sourberry bushes, but maybe one day I can try it. It’s great to see the garden update, I hope the cages work. I have a tip that will help you to save water and fertilize your garden at the same time. Save your urine in a container, and immediately dilute it by half with water. Use this to water each of your plants. You only need to apply it once every day or two, and you will be amazed at how much more green and vigorous your plants will be. The urine provides nitrogen.
