Hai Duong! Instead of the last piece of wood to block the water, you need to make a grate (and don’t forget to put it last every time you change the water level) so that the fish don’t swim away.

I have always wondered what was preventing some of your fish from escaping at times from the pond. Earlier on you had built a bamboo screen that prevented debris from clogging the pond outflow and possibly helped keep the fish from escaping. But apparently you don’t use that anymore? It would definitely be a shame if fish continue to escape decreasing the size of your school of fish after you have worked so hard to keep them well fed, alive and healthy. It’s nice to see that you have made something useful from the cotton material you wove. Hand sewing is tedious and takes some time to create something useful with good stitching. Your pillow and blanket brings that primitive skill full circle from growing the cotton to these end products of the pillow and blanket. : ) I would call that a sheet, not a blanket. And, you already had that red blanket, so it could be spread over the sheet to help keep you nicely warm at night. However, I have to wonder how cool / cold your winter is if you still only wear that short sleeve shirt, shorts and sandals, and walk through the water in the stream. Hmmm… It was nice to see you cooking and eating some of the things you grow on your farm. Even a primitive farmer must eat to survive. Another full circle primitive skill realization! : ) As you were catching 1-2 roosters for size and weight, is it getting time to either sell or process some of them? We never see you do much with them as a food source, but your flock continues to produce chicks. Are you loosing a lot of your chickens to predators or are you taking some chicken home? Your wife recently cooked a huge amount of chicken legs as a meal for village children. I wondered if some of those were from your chickens.

Duong, I had a good idea! In the shallow area of the pond if you had soil you could plant water plants there. Polygonium odoratum (water mint) would grow well, maybe water spinach? In my country we grow Watercress (Nasturtium officinale). I was also thinking that the fish need somewhere to lay eggs if you want to have more fish? I remember the last time you added plants for the fish to lay eggs on, which is why I suggest that. You could also add a small wall across the edge of the shallow area which would raise the water level there above the pond. This is called a weir and would allow you to have two ponds that are kept separate if you do plant things and don’t want the fish to eat them.

The openings in your dam spillway is much too wide and the pond level is to low. If you want to drain water from the pond, have boards with holes no greater than 1/2 inch or 12 mm available so that you replace the solid boards with boards with holes. Also, the deeper the water in the pond the less likely the fish are to leave.👍

Duong, an idea for the pillow: are there any local herbs that help promote sleep? Lavender or Hops both have chemicals in their smell that helps relax you. Lavender also helps repel insects and stops them nesting in the pillow. If you have any herbs like that you can add them inside the pillow.

You can extract salt from the ash after burning wood: pour the ash with warm water 1:3, mix well, let the sediment settle (about 4-6 hours). Carefully drain the water and evaporate it to a sediment. You will have to work hard, you will need a lot of ash and a lot of time to get the normal amount of salt.

Salt can be made from the sap and/or ashes of a variety of plants and trees - but I don't know which ones grow in your area. Perhaps the very best is Salicornia, known here as glasswort, grows very well in salty soil - and is salty enough on its own to be dried and ground as a spice. Getting mixed crude concentrates of various "salts" is much easier, but you'll end up with nitrates, phosphates, sulphites, iodides, and carbonates in addition to chlorides - of sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, etc. - all of which will taste bitter or metallic to some degree.

Duong, beyond a doubt you have amazing and interesting skills and thank you for sharing them. It's a bit confusing to this American why you don't show more time with your parents, your beautiful wife and your sweet children. With all those fish, surely you could take them to your wife to make nutritious meals for the village children and their families. And all those chckens and eggs. What a wonderful example that would be for your own children. You could even apprentice some of the villagers teaching them how to find, harvest, and make medicines. Obviously, you could help the entire village become more self sufficient. You have great skills there, and maybe you already do all these things, it would be very nice to see it..

A couple observations: It looks like you may need to repair your bed soon, unless I'm seeing things one of the boards is almost broken. Your head will crush the cotton in your pillow. With the fine quality of your cloth, you may get a better pillow by stuffing with rice husk. Your wife still has a bunch of upland rice. If you help her thresh it, there will be husks to spare. If it gets much, much colder, your cotton would actually work really well if you sewed pockets into your blanket and stuffed them with cotton. Raw cotton makes a pretty good insulator, even if it's not a great cushion. Of course, I don't know how cold it gets in the mountains. It's probably not worth doing unless it gets below 15 degrees at night when you sleep out there. I wish I knew of a good way for you to get salt in the mountains while staying true to your channel. Finally, the ending to your video was perfect. After seeing so many people's videos end when it's obvious that they will still have to get up and shut things down, actually seeing you do it made me laugh out loud.

just like the lights you have for filming conveniences, i think a few other similar systems would be warranted, for the long term. say, and upside down fish tank floating on the surface of the pond, with all the air sucked out. so the fish can see out, and it makes for good vids :P does nothing for aided survival or effectiveness of the project, but does give something more to the mental well being of the fish, and more to the videos. just looks cool, too :P
