What's the point of digging into the ground? It's common knowledge that the cellar is the most unhealthy place in a house, damp and more expensive to heat. It's true that soil temperature is seldom below freezing point, but also leads away the heat much easier than open air. If it was a great idea there would be earth houses everywhere in primitive societies, but you only see them in some hot regions, as a way of air conditioning.
@Tombombadillo999
@Tombombadillo999 Жыл бұрын
Actually earth acts as a thermal mass. Turf houses were common in iceland, and some can still be found. Digging would also require less building materials, as less walls are required (especially in areas with lots of turn and less wood)Pithouses are also quite common in the ancient world, like the grubenhaus of ancient germany. Och det är därför man använder potatikällaren som en vanlig kyl, den behåller temperaturen bättre.

I do believe that dry turf has rather good insulation properties, but this guy digs in ordinary forest soil, which is more compact and becomes humid. You must be kidding about the potato cellar. Then why doesn't anybody move into one over cold winters? 😄 You got to be a city dweller.
@Tombombadillo999
@Tombombadillo999 Жыл бұрын
@@acajutla dont assume stuff, have lived part of my life in the country side. The potato cellar was an example about earths insulation, theres obviously better options if u have like plenty of woods (like in scandinavia). I thinks this utuber enjoys creating different kind of accomodations for the sake of having fun and content. But ur assumption about living in a hole being totally wrong, is not quite correct as there are plenty of examples around the world (even plenty of native american kind of dwellings which i forgot to add to my last comment). Then obviously an earth floor in winter will definately be quite damp at the beginning, and for sure cold, but with some usage and by burning fires, you would definately dry the place up quite quickly.
