To anyone interested in Lyme Disease, I would recommend reading though the book "Healing Lyme" by Stephen H, Buhner, a well respected herbalist. The books educates the reader on what Lyme Disease actually is and gives specifics on how to both prevent and treat it using herbs (including Japanese Knotweed). After reading through the book, I understand that treating Lyme disease can be quite tricky. Early symptoms may fade quickly, only to return as chronic Lyme sometimes years down the road.

Praise God for you and this video. I had this growing in my yard. I went outside, dug some root, made a tea, drank a quarter cup and in a quarter of an hour I was feeling better and coming back to life. No more headache and foot discoloration was improving.

It has for me and two of our instructors. At this time of year the roots are frozen in the ground, so it may be difficult to get them. I use a strong tea five times a day until the symptoms go away plus two weeks. I have no symptoms and this is consistent with one person who has had it twice and one who was dealing with it for over a year. Get the book, "Healing Lyme" by Stephen Harrod Buhner. It is full of information and research.

Never heard of that reaction before. I would discontinue use, be sure you have a positive ID, check your preparation and see if you are having a reaction. If it is just the tea, that rules out any reaction to the medium. Contact your primary care physician to determine what is causing your unique response to this plant. Also, please share if you can.

Ticks are really bad in New York this year. My dog is very sick with all three kinds of Lyme disease. But that just gave her 28 days of antibiotics which she did make it through... But it seems to be coming back

Japanese knotweed, according to Beuhner and the research, transports modern antibiotics through the blood/tissue barriers to the synovial fluid where the cork-screw spirochete prefers to exist. Apparently, the resveratrol and accompanying phyto-chemicals also breech the protective cyst like covering of the bacteria and dismantle the organelles within the bacterial spirochete. We have had a number of community members administer knotweed tincture to their dogs to good effect.

As to prevent the disease from entering your body at all, Stephen Buhner suggests a dosage about one third of the core protocol daily. So, if you were infected you would be taking the tincture 3 times daily, as prevention once daily. Hope this helps. Some further thoughts on prevention: Ticks checks are VITAL. Get into a routine of checking before bed time. A tick needs considerable amount of time to transmit disease (about 24hrs), so there's a way to approach prevention that is not fear based.

I would like to make tinctures of all three of these plants, do you harvest and sell the knotweed root? Fresh would be fine to me, that way I can dry it. Perhaps a 1/2 pound? I would like to make the threesome tincture to take for prevention when going to my property in Tennessee, it is literally crawling with ticks when ever I go to camp or do work on my land. Ideas on other good sources for the other two herbs?

Just want make a correction to my previous post, my friend still has Lyme disease, she caught it last year here in the UK, she was off work for months but has now gone back but can only manage one day on one day off. Up till then I was pretty ignorant of it, I thought it was some old school disease, we don't hear much about it over here.

I personally pour a shot glass of the tincture into a cup of tea. For me, this works best at 3 to 5 cups of tea with tincture in it each day. If I incorporate it in to a routine, like meal times and morning routines/bedtimes it helps me to remember to take it.

Sorry, could you clarify the usage of knotweed during the spring, when it's a shoot? Is it still the root part that you're using for lyme or another part at this stage? Also, is it advisable to let the shoot get a bit large before harvesting?
@primitiveskills
@primitiveskills 7 жыл бұрын
We use the root. While the shoots are edible, they also help us locate the "runners" or lateral root growth that is easier to harvest and process.

@primitiveskills

You can, but the roots are not going to be as vigorous as most of the efforts of the plant at this time of year are invested in reproduction. While not ideal, it is still a great source of resveretrol. A strong decoction might be better, as you can increase the strength of your "tea" through longer steeping times.

I know this is an old video and not sure if anyone is monitoring it any more, but had some questions. Watching this, I'm not sure if you harvest an old plant (stems dried up and yellow - probably in the field from the year before) or if you harvest new ones, with green stems? Also, can any height plant be used? I mean, does it have to be a young plant within a foot high? Or can it be three feet or more high? Or does it make any difference if its young or old, if the height is short or tall, as to how much potency will be in the root? And do I try to get as much of the root as possible, so dig it up as opposed to tear it out of the ground? Anyway, if anyone has some answers on this, please let me know, eh? I would appreciate it! All the best!

@privatear2001

So if a plant is dead in the ground (yellow stalk and brittle) probably from the year before, will the root be withered and no good for anything? It will have no medicinal use? So just use the new plants AND lateral runners? But doesn't the yellow/orangish root go straight down?

@bmarley343 Fallopia japonica is synonomous with both Polygonum cuspidatum and Reynoutria japonica, the two older latin epitephs. The three labels describe the same plant. Not only is this highly invasive species indicted for Lyme, it tastes great, makes nice water containers, and fragile, but serviceable pan flutes.

thanks for this video; I'm pretty sure I have lyme - and I actually don't want to take antibiotics because I think the Lyme is potentially interacting with some tumors I have and I don't want to mess up any potential positive biotic stuff happening with the negatives of heavy doses of antibiotics. Has anybody else confirmed this treated their Lyme? thanks.

I recommend you buy the book by Stephen Harrod Buhner, "Healing Lyme, Natural Healing of Lyme Borreliosis and the Coinfections Chlamydia and Spotted Fever Rickettsioses". There is a long chapter in this book after plants that can be used to treat yourself as well as potential contraindications and herb/drug interactions. Either way antibiotics knock out your good bacteria as well as your bad, so you would need to take probiotics is you took antibiotics to suport your immune system.

@@catherinebrookebarnes4113 thanks, I did actually buy that book, but didn't read it. Really, I was looking for specific dose, droppers full, of a strong alcohol japanese knotweed root tincture I made (and I searched the book and didn't find a specific dose). Thanks. I drank really strongly brewed knotweed root tea the first week and it really knocked my symptoms back a lot. I can't say I noticed the tincture treating me/ maybe a little helpful. I definitely take more tincture though if I notice more symptoms.

@bluenail90 Deer Mice and white footed mice are primary hosts in the initial step of the two step parasitic cycle of the primary vector of Lyme Disease Ixodes scapularis, (commonly refered to as deer tick or black legged tick). Cervids, canines, and many other larger mammals (including us) are the primary hosts for the second step in their development. There is no evidence to suggest deer tick behaviora is influenced by the physical presence of Japanese Knotweed.

Slow down on the knotweed. At least half the dose.Take Every Day Detox(R) tea.(Traditional Medicals(R)) and a galon of water a day. Sow thisle can help. The Herxing is caused by the decomposing spirochetes in your body. It means the knotweed is working. If you keep the dose the same rate it can cause necropsy(burning and numbness in the hands and feet) keep using the treetment. keep the blood moving in your hands and feet. I am not a DR. I've been through this. do not smoak tabaco

There's more lymes disease cos the knotweed is taller undergrowth hence the ticks are higher and able to bite arms etc. Killing the deer off also makes the ticks bite white footed mice in winter and so carry it to humans. It's actually a white footed mouse disease. Or something like that ...check it out.

If it was down to Nature we would be extinct already. Why would an ecosystem support something that is deliberately destroying it ??? This is widely known as " the Lord provides " your needs. God created us and the world and it is He who also provides the plants we need to heal and sustain our selves. The earth isn't in control of anything and it's certainly not my Mother. Same old same old, crazy hippy talk.😵😵😵 In The Beginning God Created, ( He Created ) He Breathed Life Into Us. I love you all but you need to wake up and seek Him with all your heart.

Thanks for taking us into the outback. I would like to echo the comment on avoiding at all costs the use of ANY metallic pan when cooking herbs. We used aluminum in the lab to push organic chemical reactions so it will fundamentally change the chemistry of the tea/decoction. Stainless is no better. Enamel coated pans are a tiny bit better but totally useless if chipped. It lookes like Corning is making their Visions glass cookware again so outside of laboratory grade borosilicates this is the only commercially safe option for doing our work. Anyone drying herbs outdoors should take precautions to guard against flies that vomit every time they land and birds dropping seemingly with malice aforethought on your hard work. Some of us can't tolerate cat's claw just so the people who falsely attribute everything to the Herxheimer Lie won't have a kneejerk reaction towards those who don't do well on it. There is a maxim in naturopathy that you shouldn't take a substance for more than three weeks at a time without a break because you can overload your cytochrome systems, and either you and/or the microbe can develop a tolerance to it. Imagine how many people have already created Oregano Oil Resistance Microbes? Instead of MRSA we will have OORM. Just keeping it real for those who are doing the hard work.
