I have this exact Primus 100. Here are tips I leaned about this and all kerosene stoves. 1 use a lead washer for the lip stick vaporisor as the stove heats other types of washers will burn or melt. 2 check the NRV at the bottom of the pump tube. This pip could be cork and it could be crumbing. I needed to replace the pip before using otherwise the kerosene could start coming out of the Non-Return Valve. I also had a sticky burner bell. It seems a problem with that era of 100s. The lipstick is made of steel the bell is made of brass. My best guess is when the vaporizer and bell cool down they contract at different rates so the bell slips down and contracts around the lipstick. To separate put the bell and vaporizer in high heat, a torch or another stove and pull a apart with pliers. I use a Coleman 400 to do this. I put a small washer inside the lipsick to keep it from falling. Seems to work at this time.

Thanks! Did you make your own lead washer or buy it somewhere? The kits I found online for repair don't have lead washers offered.

@@honorableoutfitters If you go to Fettle box under Lead washers for 100 stove. I got mine from basecamp uk. Though you have to ask for it in an email. One other thing when you prime with alcohol you should have the pressure relief valve open so you don't get keorsene spewing before it should. Just be the alcohol goes close the pressure relief valve and pump three or four times until the flame turns blue. Then you can pump to full flame. Controlling flame by opening valve or pumping.

I would never hesitate to replace old gaskets. Better at home than on a trip and if you have none you are out. If you want to be adventerous you can make your own gaskets like people do for motors. evaporust will help with siezed parts but just plain transmission fluid will as well. If you want mix it 50/50 with acetone. Don't be in a rush. You can heat the part a bit first and that will help draw it in the cracks. Obviously that will create smoke. Probably not welcome in the house. I would lube all threads with a high temp/anti seize grease so it is good to go. Might renew that during down season.

That washer at the base of the burner is supposed to be lead. I’ve made one before my melting a bunch of air rifle pellets with a torch and then pounding the gob flat with a hammer cutting it roughly to shape with scissors.

Agreed! Always have replacement gaskets, NEW gaskets, old gaskets are going to fail. Also , always burn your stoves outdoors, until your wife is used to the smell of kerosene in the house. To aid that, buy her, her own stove! Works almost every time ! Buy her a can of brass cleaner and show her how bright it can get, then let her go! She will end up with more stoves and other ephemera, but that's OK too. You'll never need a tool again , just make sure to ask nice when you need to borrow one! Keep your backs to the wall and your powder dry! Rick
