We had a Chow Husky mix and a Boxer and Boston Terrier. The big dogs would regularly let the Boston “win” when p,aging, it was so adorable! The downside was the Boston never came to really understand to properly interact with stranger dogs, would jump up in their faces. However she lived a good long life, and eventually died from health issues.

Prince is pretty good at it too. I likened him to an MMA fighter. Not saying his job is to beat dogs up. More so; it’s hard to get up in a UFC fighters face and be an asshole. They’ll generally try and deescalate, they got no ego, they know where they stand. But if it comes to blows that asshole is going to get choked out. Prince gives these dogs a chance, he kinda feels their vibe and doesn’t put up with rude behavior. I feel like he was just having fun playing with a puppy here though lol.

My boy Duke was similar to this dog, borderline out of control. Marking and correcting the behavior was working, even tho it was getting tiring and embarrassing having to do it every five minutes or so. Several weeks ago he got “whooped” twice by the same dog. The first time he submitted and took his energy down a couple of notches, only to slowly ramp it back up again. The second time he got whooped more aggressively and trying to get away, he ran into a pole slightly injuring himself. Several trips back to the park, I found out that I had a more passive and slightly apprehensive dog. He was hardly all over the other dogs like he used to be and would avoid the more aggressive dogs. Just yesterday all the dogs at the park were more of the aggressive type. Duke was confident enough to join the group with no problems. Later a really aggressive dog joined the group and singled out my dog to bully. Duke submitted a couple of times, but after that he apparently had enough and snapped at the dog backing him off. This was a behavior I had never seen from him before. I was impressed. He repeated this several times and the other dogs owner praised Duke for doing it. It seems that getting “whooped” by another dog can teach a dog two things; where the line is and when they should draw the line.

Dogs correct and educate each other in ways that humans cannot. Oftentimes people assume that a dog correcting another is aggressive when often it is simply a case of teaching manners. As a side note, I would just advise that sometimes dog parks are not the best place to take any dog because of the lack of control over the situation, and the amount of dogs with unknown temperaments. Things can get out of control quickly. I don't know if this is the case with you, but I made the mistake with my most recent dog of taking him to the dog park too many times and since he is a high-energy dog, loves to play and was still a teenager, he then believed that every time we walked by another dog on walks that it was game on, time to play. Many people walking their own dogs thought my dog was aggressive because he would bark sometimes even whine in frustration because he wanted to play. Because he is a strong dog many people were terrified by his barking and thought it was aggression . In reality, it was merely frustration because he wanted to play. I have Corrected him for the behavior so he understood that it did not mean game on every time he saw another dog. I know it's an easy way to exercise your dog so I understand completely while you go to dog parks and if it works for you keep doing it. But for many others the dog park can be a very bad place to take your dog for numerous reasons. Sadly for some, that means yes you have to get up and exercise your dog yourself. But it's better than a trip to the hospital or reinforcing poor behaviors. In your case your dog did learn some manners which is a great thing. I just hope everything continues to go smoothly and that the wrong dog doesn't show up to the dog park one day because an ass whooping can sometimes mean a trip to the hospital and thousands of dollars in vet bills. This is why using Prince is such a great way because he is the perfect beta, passive temperament and is a great educator dog similar to how Labradors are. But not all dog parks are like that so that is where problems can arise. Please just be careful and always scope out the dogs at the dog park before you go in

Prince does like a good rough play (you showed us in other videos). It is very nice to see how much he tolerates the other dog being too much, but how Prince very well understands that it's not agressive or dominant behaviour - just silly & friendly. He stays very calm, very gentle, no harsh corrections. In lying down still, Prince might have wanted to demonstrate how nice play works:" First I go on the ground and you can massage my neck with your teeth .... than we turn and you go down." Nice to see it. Princey likes that dog, I think that's why he keeps his patience with it all throughout the video. Thanks for showing us.

It was really interesting to see Prince lie on his back like that, 'cause my dog also does that with any dog that he's unsure of. If the other dog then comes on top of him and acts like a jerk, he'll really tell them of (and I need to be really alert). If the other dog is respectful or just playful they can be friends.

The Guide elaborates on the techniques used on the show. The examples given in the kzbin.infoUgkxECnmSvBSv_NGWx4_ChD73pF3NYZwI2F3 are helpful and some of the techniques suggested very useful. One such technique/tool suggested was the lure stick to encourage a small dog to keep up with the heel command. I have a small dog who lags behind smelling any and everything and find it hard to keep bending over while walking to his level. The lure stick is great also for another dogs focus and sprinting at anything that catches her eye. The stories about different dogs, their different temperaments, have been helpful, especially Lulu's: After reading about Lulu's challenges I felt relief concerning one of my rescues that I have had for 10 years. Over many years I have checked out many training books from the library, watched different shows, DVDS, bought training books, taken lessons and this book is the best by far! Kindness, patience and perseverance works.

I'm a huge fan of brandon's tv show so it wasn't surprising that his book kzbin.infoUgkxSw1k29V8f0aNwyGI6qRGYJc3E4Y4Eoxy is also excellent! With treats, my dog has learned most of the seven common commands (sit, stay, come, down, heel, off and no). Brandon's love for all animals is baked into every chapter of the book. If you have a puppy or an older dog, i would highly recommend reading every word of this book as it will be a source of pride for you and your dog.

We are in the U.K. He opens and closes doors, puts lights on and off, picks up anything daughter drops and hands it to her and loads of other things. She taught him to wipe his feet when he come into the house...I would absolutely recommend a labradoodle.

Prince is awesome. It seems clear he read the other dog’s energy perfectly; he knew the dog was exuberant and happy. Maybe that’s why Prince never got really angry. Prince did such a great job. This video was superb in showing a dog that was “too much” while not being negative. I have gently pinned my little ACD/Border Collie mix puppy down when she was “too much” until she let up. I learned that from watching my sister’s elderly Labrador do it. He used his forearm to pin her very gently. At 8 months, she now settles down a lot quicker. I can see now that early correction may have forestalled a behavioral problem.

I work at a dog daycare myself and we have several small and medium sized dogs who are very "Up" centered in their play, both on people and on other dogs and like you say, most of them just deal with it and don't correct much, so the behavior does continue. It makes me feel slightly better knowing that the time between marking the behavior and the consequence isn't a huge deal as long as that follow up happens. Sometimes I have to follow a dog for 5 minutes between the marking and the actual sit/down thing.

Think Prince was trying to show Bandit how to behave and submit before correcting him. Started seeing that around the 7:28 mark and again later when Prince lies down submissively, before changing back to schooling Bandit. You can see how he goes alpha right after every time showing a submissive side. I used to think Prince was maybe too soft sometimes, but in this video he shows just how good he really is. I also thought that ha harsher correction would have fast tracked Bandits education, but maybe Prince’s way is less invasive on Bandit’s happiness and playfulness? Very impressive!

I raised about 60 dogs in total, never had more than 14 dogs at the same time. It was really easy once we got the first 4 disciplined and well behaved, they did a perfect job of teaching the young ones about boundaries and respecting space and commands. We only ever taught the first generation to not come into the house without command. When the young ones disrespected that they were promptly corrected by the elders instantly, we barely ever needed to correct that. They were mostly energetic, jumpy and happy dogs, . We only ever used a leash on 1 because she tended to wander off for too long and took days to come back. She was very calm but clearly dominant and the other dogs would always follow her. Before her our dogs were always free to wander because they were really friendly and relaxed with all people and other dogs and always respected their space, we never needed to worry. Sometimes me and my dad would just go out and explore nature on foot and they would follow us some part of the way until they found something else interesting to do, they'd always return home safely.

Best dog trainer in the world is a mom dog. My dog was a golden retriever husky mix, gorgeous and sweet as the day is long. I rescued her off the street, turned out she was pregnant. Had 11 puppies!! Couple years after that my neighbor got a dalmatian mix who was also very sweet but rambunctious and jump jump jump everywhere everything. Came up to meet my dog and my friend said I can't get her to stop jumping up and being nutso. I said give my girl a minute. Literally one minute. Friends dog jumped up on my girl and my dog spun around and made the most gawd awful sound that terrified my friend. I said no no, she won't hurt her, she's just schooling her. Friends dog sat down and stayed like that for about a minute. I said see? She told your dog what for and your dog got the message loud and clear 😜. It's an awesome thing to behold 💜💜💜💜 I love seeing a momma dog tell other dogs this is how it is son. Dogs listen and obey. If I got back into training again I would need at least one dog like that. Worth gold and diamonds. 30 second dog training! I sure miss my girl. She was totally awesome.

He's never been the same since, and is so reactive to dogs. I'm at my wits end. I've tried so many things. He is happy to see other dogs, but as soon as he's near them, or sees them getting closer, he starts huffing and then... i dunno... little dogs, he's fine with, but big dogs and younger dogs he does not tolerate anywhere near him. He does what i need him to do at home, but there's no way I could ever bring him to a crowds with me in fear that there will be a dog that pisses him off for some reason.

She will correct the other dog but some dogs don’t get it “hey no heavy roughhousing just chase please” if they’re gentle and like to just take turns pinning or rolling around she does just fine. She’s a Doberman/Lab mix and would keep up with greyhounds and whippets, well at least the first two sprints lol.

I absolutely love watching Prince! My dobergirl has the same kind of temperament as Prince, and it makes me so proud as a doby mom! She does the same pinning method, and always knows the exact pressure to apply with each “problem” dog. Also, she too had this same issue with her chin as a pup. It stemmed from a bacteria caused by her food bowl. After every meal, I have to scrub her food bowl and that has worked miracles. She is now 10.5 years old and we thankfully no longer have that issue. It was only the first year or two of her life. You have done an amazing job with Prince! Besides being so handsome, he truly is one of a kind. The Doberman breed is my most favorite breed, and I will Never go without one. They truly are a breed all their own!

That puppy was in heaven, he just wanted to play whether he was on top or submitting.

Problem is the puppy doesn't see them as corrections. Just play all the time. Need an alpha female to really snap at the pup and submit it

That makes sense!! I found a puppy and I hv an older male & female dogs and yes! The female completely does not put up with any crap!!

I agree. This will not teach the pup - he found a dog who will play in his prefered style. Even my male dog would have corrected this quickly. Male pups up to a certain age do play like this. Their way of training for adulthood. Not a bad thing. My boy did - now he teaches younger dogs boundaries. Play is only granted once boundaries are respected.

@@claireabbott6112 Ya. I'm just guessing but the pup probably didn't spend a lot of time with mom or pack. That's why he's a little obnoxious. .

Glad I found these videos. Have an anatolian shepherd that has some of those traits. She isn't mean with the other dogs, but really makes the little dogs angry with her play. My other large dog is just too patient with her and now she is getting to be the biggest.

Well, even if he _was_ bleeding from a scratch, you have to expect that when dogs play. Accidents happen, my cuz's pitt pup and my shitzu loved playing together but one day we heard a yip and saw some blood in his eye. There was a little nick in his eyelid, she probably grazed him with a claw. No harm no foul, they kept playing like nothing happened. My mom's dog played with my aunt's Jack Russel and both came away with a few scratches. Dogs are like kids, the play and they play hard. If course you know this, I'm telling it to the ones who don't know😜 On a side note, did the vets offer any advice for his chin?

One of my dogs, long since gone, would have had that white dog on his back within seconds and wouldn't have let him go until he fully submitted. He wouldn't have hurt him, but he would have showed him who was boss. I saw him do it several times, and it was a thing of beauty. I miss that dog so much.

When my dog was younger she had this problem. I put a weight vest on her whenever I took her out and the problem quickly went away. She would quickly tire herself out with all the jumping, and it was great exercise.
