This is not true. Please check Maryland Archives for Baltimore history. Over 50% of Baltimore City was free before the Civil War ended. Baltimore is the home of Abolitionist and the birthplace of Methodism and Quakers. My families settlement was founded in 1790.one year after slavery Baltimore City founded and funded Bowie in 1865, one year after slavery ended Baltimore blacks were educated by AME churches and Mother Lange started St. Francis Xavier. Johns Hopkins and Mr. Perry Hall also funded free black schools. Our people were at Frederick Douglass school including Thurgood Marshall. We did not have those issues with education.
