Please don't let all the criticism discourage you. A year ago, you could hardly find any Prince guitar tutorials, and what there was was way off, even to my ears. I don't know if what you're playing is identical to how Prince played, but it sounds very good to me. A huge thanks to you.

Danielle Hall Thank you Danielle, and don't worry 99% of the messages I get from people are very positive and friendly. I don't know how right I am, I don't suppose anyone other than Prince or those in his band ever does. But hopefully sharing how I've interpreted a song will be useful to someone :)

Nice job, Mr. Reed. I bought the "Best of Prince" song book and all I can say is, when it came to transcribing "Let's Go Crazy," the folks at Hal Leonard were having a bad day. A REALLY bad day. Thanks again.

Thank for this...maybe some of the people who knock this could put together videos that show how Prince who often varied how he played things would do it properly.....what...no takers? What a surprise....once again, thanks for putting the time in.

Oh, I gotcha. Since Prince played things differently live sometimes, no one is allowed to criticize a guy failing to play basic chords under the guise of a "tutorial." Thanks for the insight...
@freexband8 жыл бұрын
On the live videos and in the movie Purple Rain, it looks like the main riff is F# to B-Bsus4. The lead riff is F# chord to b-c-c# notes which can be confused with the E-E6 riff you play here. Overall though, you have the BEST Prince guitar lessons I've ever seen anywhere in my life!!! Thank you!
@thejaseguitar8 жыл бұрын
It's a tricky one. I know what you mean about the B over the word 'Crazy' which in our band the keyboard player plays and I leave space for before playing the E. Likewise with the B C C#, with the bass playing those notes. I've seen him play it live a few times and each time play it a bit differently. Hopefully these videos are helpful for people working out a song or learning guitar, but they are just an interpretation on one way of playing it. Everyone will find what works best for them :)

In the film and other videos, that's not where Prince and Wendy Melvoin are playing the main riff (if you want total accuracy). There's a great moment in the film when Prince walks in on Wendy and Lisa practicing what will become Purple Rain, and Wendy gets miffed and sarcastically plays the Lets Go Crazy riff -- you can hear the subtle differences in the sections after each F#. Otherwise great job!
@thejaseguitar8 жыл бұрын
+MRYUMish Thanks. I must watch Purple Rain again. It's years since I've seen it. :)
@mryumish12878 жыл бұрын
+Jason Read just watched it last night (hadn't seen in 15 years or more), else I wouldn't have remembered how to play it at all!
@thejaseguitar8 жыл бұрын
+MRYUMish It seems to change watching various live videos. Sometimes he's playing F# in the 2nd position and sometimes in the 9th. I guess it doesn't really matter as it's just a different inversion of the same chord. Prince could play whatever variation he felt like and it would still sound amazing - because he was Prince ::}
@mryumish12878 жыл бұрын
+Jason Read for sure, as long as it's an E it works. Guessing maybe it's played in the 9th to separate from bass and keys and widen the sound a bit. But when u hear Wendy play it in the movie it has a nice funky twang to it up in the higher register. I enjoyed your video tx a lot!

GamezOf War where your guitar vid learning/ executing the parts giganticus?
@jesse_cole5 жыл бұрын
@@Blues4Winter lol. There's always some idiot on these pages defending terrible demos with the old "where's your video?" comment. The complaints are probably from people who wanted to quickly watch someone playing this so that they could learn it without wasting extra time figuring out the licks and chords, but instead, they came across jerkoffs who haven't even got the whole "guitar playing" thing down yet. Call it a hunch. Just "having a video on KZbin" doesn't actually make your opinions more relevant, just as not having one doesn't make your opinion irrelevant. You'll figure that out when you yourself bother to learn the instrument.
