As an Irishman (not English) I have to say Naz was a great fighter who is hugely underrated by Americans. Yeah he got beaten by Barrera, but where's the shame in that? Barrera is a legend

+Zim Zimma Yeah he was a great boxer some people doesn´t like or understand his style, i'm mexican but many people in my country doesn´t like that kind of boxing style, you know, but is only people who just like to watch a fight they don´t like boxing, You know what i mean? Peace.

Javier Mondragón Hamed didn't have what you would say a technical style. Most people that didn't like naz didn't like his arrogance, nothing to do with style.

Zim Zimma it was more to do on how he carried himself before the fight, how he was humbled during the fight and finally how he responded to it after he had lost for the first time in his professional life he had to pick him self up and ask for a rematch buy he got sacred in to retirement, my humble opinion and greetings from Mexico my friend !

I agree with what you say.The thing that bothered me was the way Naz had bullied and humiliated lesser fighters. I found that behaviour unacceptable. Barrerra took him to school and made him look very ordinary. Naz I believe knows more of the same and worse lies ahead if he fights Morales or Barrera. He had undoubted class as a fighter buut has been found wanting as a man. All the true greats deal with defeat except for those very few undefeated fighters. I find it hard to watch Naz now.
@megadave1197

Naz took the loss with dignity. It’s probably the most humble post fight speech of all time. He just wanted to scrap rather than points etc. I think he’d of preferred to have gone out on his shield but Barrera just came to win on points.

Smokesar: Charisma doesn't intimade people but it can give u fans, Tyson intimadates people....not by being charismatic but by being intimadating and scary, partly of his power. Because people were afraid of him BECAUSE of his power, not of his boxing skills.... Naz was good, BUT he didn't exactly defend his title against the best in the world, he defended against Kevin Kelley and was outboxed until Kelley got too eager and got knocked out. Barrera saw that fight as a blueprint of too win

@MrTurkishblue Well, if we go with your logic then Barrera should have outlanded Morales in their second meeting. Not only was this NOT the case, but Morales then punched Barrera to the canvas, the only time either fighter was punched to the canvas during the whole trilogy. Barrera learned how to defeat Naz via Soto, not Morales. You also forget that Erik's chin is holding solid at 140Lbs...could you ever see Hamed's doing that? There you have it. Erik crushes Naz in seven.

No, Hamed was good and exceptionally fast with avery good power in both hands. BUT he didn't defend against topnotch contenders. He got outboxed by Kevin Kelley who was over the hill by many yrs, and he showed us Hameds weaknesses. He got careless and got knocked, and Barrera saw that as a blueprint and took him out Now a REAL champion comes back from defeat, even stronger. A real champ takes on the other champs. He was good, but he's weak mind was revealed when he lost to Barrera and quit.

Hamed was a good fighter and just got out classed by a great fighter. Hamed should not have retired he still had fight left in him. Maybe Barrera beats him 9 times out of 10 so what Hamed still had other fights good for him. Like he said Barrera got beat by Jr Jones twice and look who is the legend out of the 2? Styles makes fights. Jr Jones was a big strong FW. Barrara was smaller than Hamed. And beat him silly.

no no no, you've got it all wrong. pac is not the fighter he was when he fought morales and the like, he's actually more of a boxer now than probably the best boxers in the division. that's because freddie roach has tranformed him into a different fighter. for example, look at kahn, yes he has a glass jaw but under roach he has completely evolved as a fighter, and is now a world champ whether we like it or not. the same has happened to pac, and pac is on a whole other level

Naseem is still the most respected boxer out there, any man who says that lewis is better than him, ( quote TAtticheez) Laughable. Hamed did everything wrong in terms of fighting, off balance, no combinations, head back, poor defence. You show yourself up for describing him as the most respected boxer. eh, you could say that about a lot of potentially great fighters; most you don't even hear about because they don't get the correct media/attention. But that's what makes the fighters we deem so great to be... so great lol. Because during times where they're not even at "full potential" they dig in deep and display that mentally and skillfully as a fighter, they show that they are the best. People say so much about Nas and Tyson but every fighter goes through that. It's how u get through it.

Who did Hamed beat that was so good that would make him a great fighter? The best when he ever had was when he beat Kevin Kelly but Kelly was never a great fighter either. Hamed is just like Ricky Hatton. 36 wins 31 kos 1 loss? Yeah u can build up that record fighting a bunch of bums. Look at what happened when Hatton fought some real champions. Hamed never beat a real champion. Another example of some1 that built a great record fighting bums is Valuev, he was 44-0 til he fought some real comp.

when he was winning nobody said a thing. now every1 saying how he lost to some1 at his prime. how he is shit and he doesnt know how to box, no joke he was a show boater, and its easy for any1 to b behind a computer screen and criticize him but in the end of the day his record speaks for it self. # Professional boxing: * Fights: 37 * Wins: 36 * KOs: 31 * Losses: 1 * Drawn: 0 how many boxers u know had a similar record and are wack??????

wtf. ok maybe u exagirated when u sed "hall of famer vs an amatuer". But u must have been watching a differnt fight to say that berrera gave him a boxing lesson. THE FIGHT WENT 12 ROUNDS. AND NAZ EVEN WON A COUPLE OF THEM !!!!!BARRERA DIDNT EVEN PUT NAZ ON HIS ARSE KOZ HE WAS AFRAID OF GETTING HIT BY A HEAVY HANDED BOXER. EVEN KEVIN KELLY PUT HIM DOWN A FEW TIMES. you call that a boxing lesson ?????????????????ReAllYYY ??? you are of ur rocker buddy.

I think everyone is overreacting about the Naz. Either they think he woulda koed all of em or they woulda koed him. I didn't think Barrera destroyed Naz, just beat him. Naz was a flawed fighter and a one trick pony. Thing was, that was one helluva pony.He was very good, world class, just not champion class.

Smokesar: of how to win over Hamed. And the true mettle of a champion is HOW they come back AFTER a loss.... Hamed quit after hiss loss, and that revealed his greatest weakness rally. His weakness in his mind, when he got beat he quit.... He didn't come back, determined too prove that it was a fluke loss and that he really was much better than that.

opinions will differ young fool. charisma is nothing in boxing? charisma is vital to anything you do. being able to psycologically beat your opponent. naz was in the head of the boxers before he was in the ring with them. but enough with the psych lesson stik to something u kno about. anyways, keep the revolution alive.

Calzaghe didn't really "batter" anyone. And beating a 43 year old isn't anything to be proud of, either. Every boxer he named is amazing. Sugar Ray Robinson was at the top of Ring Magazine Top 80 boxers of the last 80 years. I understand you feel a need to be patriotic, but I don't think nationalities should matter, just a love of great fights and great fighters.

Ali the greatest my arse he ahd no inside fighting skills other than wrestling and tying up, no body punching and a lame left hook...Ray Robinson was way better pound for pound....Ali just had a bigger mouth...he did have some fast hands and a great chin but no way in hell he was the greatest ever....he was to one dimensional

you make the mistake of underestimating pac mans power and strength. fact is even if cotto is the stronger man he wont be able to 'push manny around like a rag doll' as he wont fuckin get near him. come back to this comment after the fight and you will see what a legen pac man is.

Boxing isn't really about fucking people up - it's very much a technical game, I think Barrera shut Naz out of the fight completely, every round - sweet science. All the greats are like that - Ali, Hopkins - very clever. Also, Barrera was stepping up from Super Bantamweight .
