From Jordan Mechner's (POP creator) Q&A "In the final shot, after the prince and princess have defeated Jaffar and are flying off on a magic horse to live happily ever after, we pull back to reveal they're being watched in a crystal ball by a sinister old hag. Tattooed on her forehead is a serpent-S symbol. Observant players may recognize that symbol from earlier in the game, as graffiti scrawled on the walls of the ruined city, presumably by the marauding army that sacked it. "That's the peril of cliffhanger endings: I wrote PoP2 thinking there was going to be a PoP3… but then there wasn't. (PoP3D doesn't count.) In that never-written third game, the Old Witch would have been the primary antagonist. She's the arch-villainess who gave Jaffar his powers, the one behind the slaughter of the prince's parents and sacking of his home city, and whom he is destined to vanquish one day. The serpent-S is the symbol of the evil god she serves. (Apologies to Tolkien, Wagner, Lucas, etc. It was the nineties.)"

When I played this game 25-26 years ago I didnt get past the skeleton on the bridge in the first cave. I imagined that the game would continue in the same style in that cave. This is much more psychadelic than I thaught for sure 😆

Becoming Shadow Man As a result of an experience with a magic mirror in Jaffar’s dungeons, the Prince has gained the ability (though he has not yet realized it) to separate himself from his body, and move through the world in his shadow form. To do this, push the joystick handle from left to right, in rapid succession, turning again and again until your shadow starts to shake loose from your body. To survive this transition, you must have at least nine units of strength.

What I have never understood about this level is why they see each other outside the princess' room, then Jaffar transports him somewhere and then when he hits Jaffar with the fire they are suddenly back outside the princess' room in the corridor again at 5:40.

Thanks, I found a manual online now. But this seems to be a separate ability. It sounds like you can leave your body in an astral projection to go peek at what lies ahead. I can't find any youtube videos that show him doing that.

Are you using Dos box for this? It is showing the tutorials. At first when I played the first dos version I was unable to finish this game as I was not known the secret as there were no tutorials. But this is really good. A different ending of the game really. Gives a lot memories.

@mp01juve I'm not sure but the next Prince of persia they made was Prince of Persia 3D which was not until a few years after 1993. however an interesting note is that the witch bears the EXACT same 'serpent' symbol as the symbol that is prevalent throughout the serpent ruins... interesting huh?

Apparently, she was the one who gave Jaffar his powers, she was the one behind the death of the Prince's parents and homeland, and she was the primary antagonist of the 3rd game we never got.

There was Prince Of Persia 3D. However, even though it's starring the same Prince & Princess, it ignores the events of the first two, or just doesn't bother telling you what happened before. It's also very glitchy in its American version for the PC, although the Dreamcast version fixes the bugs. Anyway, it's no masterpiece.

It would be nice if Ubisoft went back and made a sequel to this, to tie up some loose ends, and make use of the powers he obtained here, and never used again.

I came here after 10 years to answer you, I'm sure you've already forgotten that you actually asked. I'm Arab, Jaffar doesn't utter any arabic word here (not even persian). It's a gibberish sentence that sounds like arabic to wetern ears. As to my arabic ears, this is what I hear: LOLO ALTRAK W-ULTRA KEY! He made sure to roll his R's like arabs with acceptable result.
