My favorite game of all time for MS-DOS! Many commenters have pointed out how difficult some of the puzzle aspects are. I was 12 when I had this, and for weeks I couldn't find the exit on the magic carpet level. Eventually I caved and went to Egghead Software (!) to buy the official POP2 Hint Book for like $20. That book was actually awesome, it was all written in the first person and gave you all sorts of storyline that I didn't pick up from playing the game. After I got past the carpet level, I would only go back and read the next chapter after completing the corresponding level. I think I had my Dad hold the book so I wouldn't look at it. Of course, I had to cheat again once I got to the last level! I had no idea what the heck was going on there with the crystals and why I couldn't defeat Jaffar. I do believe there may have been some secret tunnels to potions that aren't shown here. At least that's what I remember from 20+ years ago!

In my understanding the Red Castle is an enormous Zoroastrian fire temple. Why: 1) Zoroastrianism is the ancient religion of Persia, which was oppressed after the Muslim conquest but it is still present and recognised today in Iran. 2) Fire is the very central element of Zoroastrianism and its rituals. It is the manifestation of Ahura Mazda, the diety of the faith. Zoroastrian fire temples houses ever burning (continuously fed, not miraculous) fires, the oldest one burning for some 1550 years now. The creepy warning in the castle also warns: 'He who would steal the flame must die'. 3) Zoroastrians traditionally have not buried their dead but left them under the sky on Towers of Silence built on hilltops, for the vultures to consume the body. Cycle of life thing. Medieval Persia, sacred fire, birds... Putting the pieces together, I find it that the residents of the Red Castle are members of the Zoroastrian sect, living in isolation from the surrounding Muslim communities. These people experienced hostilities and witnessed the decline of their religion. No wonder they are prepared to fight intruders. Since I made up this theory I always feel bad for the massacre of these monks of an almost extinct religion in their own sanctuary. The power of love right? The only thing not fitting is the calligraphic Arabic-like scriptures on the walls of the castle. However, Avestan alphabet and scripture is kind of similar to Arabic, I do not read any of the two to decide. Any Iranian, Persian, Zoroastrian or truly any kind of PoP player is welcome to correct me in my false assumptions about the story of the Red Castle. Cheers from Hungary

Muslims didnt oppress them. The only reason muslims attacked persia is because they sent out their first attack which lead to an all out war.
@hassankhan25 жыл бұрын
Also if you say islam was only spread there after hazmat Umar farooq ra( second Khalifa) conquered persia you are wrong. Islam was already there and spreading far wider then before the muslim armies conquered them.

In this case, "He who would steal the flame must die" is actually a clue, and should be taken literally. In order to get the flame, the player has to let the Prince die on the screen where it is (and then wait until the game says "press key to continue" -- at which point his shadow leaves his body, takes the flame, and returns to his body, bringing him back to life).

Breathing Air / he probably died many times but saved it along the way as he reached each level, cause when you die you can start from the beginning of that level if you saved at any point in that level. So if he died at any point, he just loaded the game from the time count he saved, and edited out the death runs from the vid. Pretty easy when you understand how saving works in this game. I just finished the game today, using the save/load feature. Took me 2 days. But ofc, I wouldn't be able to pass through a lot of puzzle plays, and that's when I got help from this video, so thanks Defiant One!

There was a section in the game's manual that explains how to become the shadow
@dalaxdercrisper95720 күн бұрын
You have two ways to do. 1) You can force yourself getting killed by one of the guards when close enough to flame shrine to let your shadow selves release and obtain the flames in your place. 2) You can try rotate left and right movement speed times to let your shadow out by yourself. Beware by doing this will cut down your health potion icon by half permanently
