Sondre Hardy I think everybody discovered that by accident, I know I did that too. I still remember the day I jumped on that horse and it started moving. It was one of the happiest days of my life. Never got past that red castle, though. Always ran out of time. But then again, I always used the same savegames with the same amount of time. Awesome video!

Nobody in my entire neighborhood could figure out how to get past the skeleton at 17:15. One kid said he left a paperweight on the block key (up) and went for lunch. When he got back, the bridge was gone and both the prince and the skeleton were dead. We thought he made that up.

My favorite game of all time for MS-DOS! Many commenters have pointed out how difficult some of the puzzle aspects are. I was 12 when I had this, and for weeks I couldn't find the exit on the magic carpet level. Eventually I caved and went to Egghead Software (!) to buy the official POP2 Hint Book for like $20. That book was actually awesome, it was all written in the first person and gave you all sorts of storyline that I didn't pick up from playing the game. After I got past the carpet level, I would only go back and read the next chapter after completing the corresponding level. I think I had my Dad hold the book so I wouldn't look at it. Of course, I had to cheat again once I got to the last level! I had no idea what the heck was going on there with the crystals and why I couldn't defeat Jaffar. I do believe there may have been some secret tunnels to potions that aren't shown here. At least that's what I remember from 20+ years ago!

Perfect example of good video game storytelling. When the cut-scenes AND the gameplay both help to tell the story. I love watching the eagle soldiers bowing to you when you come back from the dead. It's so damn cool.

In my understanding the Red Castle is an enormous Zoroastrian fire temple. Why: 1) Zoroastrianism is the ancient religion of Persia, which was oppressed after the Muslim conquest but it is still present and recognised today in Iran. 2) Fire is the very central element of Zoroastrianism and its rituals. It is the manifestation of Ahura Mazda, the diety of the faith. Zoroastrian fire temples houses ever burning (continuously fed, not miraculous) fires, the oldest one burning for some 1550 years now. The creepy warning in the castle also warns: 'He who would steal the flame must die'. 3) Zoroastrians traditionally have not buried their dead but left them under the sky on Towers of Silence built on hilltops, for the vultures to consume the body. Cycle of life thing. Medieval Persia, sacred fire, birds... Putting the pieces together, I find it that the residents of the Red Castle are members of the Zoroastrian sect, living in isolation from the surrounding Muslim communities. These people experienced hostilities and witnessed the decline of their religion. No wonder they are prepared to fight intruders. Since I made up this theory I always feel bad for the massacre of these monks of an almost extinct religion in their own sanctuary. The power of love right? The only thing not fitting is the calligraphic Arabic-like scriptures on the walls of the castle. However, Avestan alphabet and scripture is kind of similar to Arabic, I do not read any of the two to decide. Any Iranian, Persian, Zoroastrian or truly any kind of PoP player is welcome to correct me in my false assumptions about the story of the Red Castle. Cheers from Hungary

In this case, "He who would steal the flame must die" is actually a clue, and should be taken literally. In order to get the flame, the player has to let the Prince die on the screen where it is (and then wait until the game says "press key to continue" -- at which point his shadow leaves his body, takes the flame, and returns to his body, bringing him back to life).

Breathing Air / he probably died many times but saved it along the way as he reached each level, cause when you die you can start from the beginning of that level if you saved at any point in that level. So if he died at any point, he just loaded the game from the time count he saved, and edited out the death runs from the vid. Pretty easy when you understand how saving works in this game. I just finished the game today, using the save/load feature. Took me 2 days. But ofc, I wouldn't be able to pass through a lot of puzzle plays, and that's when I got help from this video, so thanks Defiant One!

"He who would steal the flame must die" This is the only clue to get the flame. Imagine how it was difficult finding out how to steal that flame by dying in the same screen, in the time of no internet, no google, no youtube gameplay videos. Imagine how it was difficult to find out how to get rid of prince's body to reveal its flame-soul. This game may be the best PoP game ever made.

There was a section in the game's manual that explains how to become the shadow
@dalaxdercrisper957
@dalaxdercrisper957 20 күн бұрын
You have two ways to do. 1) You can force yourself getting killed by one of the guards when close enough to flame shrine to let your shadow selves release and obtain the flames in your place. 2) You can try rotate left and right movement speed times to let your shadow out by yourself. Beware by doing this will cut down your health potion icon by half permanently

One of the best old games ever made. I remember the 3rd level (or 2nd) after you lose your sword and fight those flying heads, it was a bit scary. The beautiful thing was, that there are some places you could discover, but will lead you to nowhere and you will get lost. Six years ago I replayed it, and I intend to do again in the coming.

The flying heads were damn hard to kill, untill u learned how to do it. And some puzzles were crazy hard. But the feeling, when u finished such a game... I was 10 years old in 1993 when it was released :X Btw at the end u can see, they were planning 3rd part IMO... its a shame it was never released... I dont count the 3d shit that followed

The original Prince of Persia for SNES is the best out of the entire series. To hell with this shoddy looking sequel.

I think the scream and sudden 'THUMP' from 3:25 onward's is hilarious. I waited since 1993 to hear that as I saw it on the computer games show 'Games World'.

I still preferred the original Konami SNES Prince of Persia to this sequel. Took a long time to win it, and by the time I did I could do it in my sleep. I never played this one. I still have my SNES and P of P still plays great on it. P of P is a true classic.

That was a nice trick at the end :D But this seems like some updated version, in the last section there were no small potions, the first level of the castle ruins could be skipped as the level door was open, and the cutscene with mother was also different.

hello everyone, i'm trying to translate my previous post :) when I was a kid, i couldn't pass the game when i was on level with bird-headed guards. I finished the game because I had saved game next level (as i remember, it was 17 years ago). Five years ago I passed it (there was a hidden place to pull myself up). This time I couldn't finish last level, because of my illusions. Can't remember, how to kill them. I don't ask you, how to do it, friends. I will do it by myself. Respect all the fans!

This game isn't from this era, if is, nobody will play it 'cos difficulty and no save or check points. Welcome in the world of old-school games. And one more thing most of the time is not about killing enemies but avoid traps, searching way out, and jumping over voids and you have still what to do. Tell me one modern game which do it so well.

Alexander Borisov it's easy for us cuz we had no better games to play in our childhood so we kept playing it for hours until we became experts and somehow stumbled on solutions for the puzzles. what kind of a kid would waste his time on a complex, hard-to-control game with shitty graphics, when they could be playing gta or assassins creed.
