Really a moving scene. Tobias Menzies and Jane Lapotaire nailed it! There should be a series made on the life of Princess Alice- what she went through and what she did made her an astounding figure!

Exactly! I wonder why her interesting real life story never made it to the movies or at least a TV documentary? Sad how this beautiful human being did not get her recognition or some applause. I'm sure Princess Alice, was rewarded in the afterlife. If you ever look up royal wedding dresses remember to look up Princess Alice - she was stunningly beautiful on her wedding day ( and everyday ). Rest in peace, Princess Alice. You will be remembered warmly...

One thing I think the Crown should be credited for is embracing the deep conversations about religion and how important it was to certain members in the royal family. For decades too many movies or tv shows glaze over these important conversations but they highlight the character and beliefs these people had that helps us connect to them. The unique position of the monarch of the UK is not just the head of state but also the church too, it's appreciating that the show didn't ignore that important fact and knew how to put it in the story without being condescending.

Yes, She was quite remarkable and steadfast with her Faith. It was a Joy to see that she is entombed in The Church of Mary Magdalene is an Eastern Orthodox Christian church located on the Mount of Olives, directly across the Kidron Valley from the Temple Mount and near the Garden of Gethsemane in Jerusalem. In my eyes, She is a Saint.

I say this because I think we do have a far more variety of subjects or topics also. Our films are probably more widely spread out and appealing than the Brits or the French or Italians. The same for our music!! ❤❤❤ Well, this is just my opinion. LoL 😂😂. Take care. Be happy.

@edwardnashen5960. I recently read that Princess Alice and the adult Prince Philip saw each other very much. He asked his mother to move in to Buckingham Palace many many times but Princess Alice declined because she wanted to continue on with her sincere "missionary work". Princess Alice was remarkable and so were Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth to have this outreach for Princess Alice. She finally accepted a permanent room in Buckingham Palace where she peacefully passed away in 1969. I'm not so sure how or why scenes are so often "swayed" as this tends to blur the historical truth and accuracy. Philip and Alice were not too distant in later years. I feel bad for Philip when he was younger and badly needed his parents especially his "mum". His youth was very harsh for a variety of different circumstances. Poor kid...

@wardarcade7452. Good point. I read this years ago about Prince Philip and the orange crate. I think the Battenburg family was just as fascinating as the Windsor family in terms of their background. Of course the Battenburg's unfortunately may have been more in the shadows of the Windsors. The Battenburg's weren't as accepted due to having a German and Danish and Greek lineage and yet Queen Elizabeth herself was more German than English!! LoL 😆.

Moving. Very stirring. Of all the scenes in The Crown this one is more poignant than the others. I would imagine that the childhood of Prince Philip was bitter and harsh. The turmoil of his family went financially to ruins and the war devastating each member of the Battenburg family had to shatter him. The reunion of son and mother was extremely heart touching - I'm amazed by how they see what they both had to endure over the years without each other. What Princess Alice went through with that antiquated medical world back then was beyond inhumane yet she was determined to keep the Christian faith going forward for herself and all the many communities that Princess Alice so lovingly contributed to with devotion and cleverness. Queen Elizabeth warmly took her mother-in-law in and Princess Alice remained at Buckingham Palace until she passed away in 1969. The younger royals need to learn from Princess Alice. You cannot marry someone if you are in love with someone else, you cannot help to write a book about your husband and have your own extra marital affairs and give up all your charities, you cannot become a part of the vile underground world of child sex trafficking and you cannot wait for a man for 9 years to ask you to marry him or this just may become another love-less marriage within the royal family, you and your wife cannot leave the UK whenever you want and be half in and half out and you cannot....

The state of Israel named Princess Alice a Righteous among the Nations. It is a high honor given to non-Jews for taking extraordinary risks to save the life of a Jew. She has a tree in her memory planted in the Garden of Remembrance at Yad Vashem. Her final wish was to be buried in Jerusalem. She was initially placed in the royal vault at Windsor but was moved to the Mount of Olives in 1988. Phillip was there.
