I love Andre...he is a great person, i love the interviews with him and he is one of my favorite bassplayers...and i dont doubt he wrote or jamed up some of the stuff that Prince used BUT to be plain there is alot of people around prince that want to claim they did alot BUT when u listen to what they done on their own...its not close to what prince put out..so im guessing prince could draw out the best from them even if they had a feeling they did it all themself.

And God forbid any of the crew admit that. I love Andre, too, but he also , like Jam and Lewis, made his millions writing/producing music. Jam and Lewis said getting fired was good timing, as they were already producing, and Prince taught them an amazing work ethic gets results. Morris admits he's lazy, and then blames everyone else for his business mistakes. Not ONE of his associates made it big as a musician/performer (Sheila was already in the biz, so she doesn't count). For those intent on cursing Prince out, those associates had decades to make their own, independent fame, and did not.

They all understood it more than anyone Margi, that's why they were loyal to him. It's one thing to know that on paper and another to live it 24/7. You can literally be in love with someone and be unable to be with this person with suffering as well. If you haven't been in the industry there really is no true understanding of what this feeling is, I'm afraid. And yes, you want to tour with people you professionally get along with extremely well, but not so close much close friends. Keep friends that are out of the industry as well. That's a key piece of advice!

A lot of sour grapes you hear on this one. A man who helped them all receive the name they were able to get work with. They are who they are because a man had a vision for all of them. He walked through the door with one mission in mind. To be the best. Prince is a fighter. He wasn't going to back down. I could imagine when Andre left he was docile about that. I lost a good friend in my group who I started with in show business. It changed me as well. But, we have to go on. Prince inspired me back in New York. I started doing all this coaching and training my friends to do great things. It happened. I didn't play all them instruments like Prince. But, I was inspired to be great at something.

how about paying the team for their input? And or acknowledge the names instead of saying a name was given to a person that already had the name? Matt Fink's statement about the solo on "head' really stands out here. I grew up a HUGE Prince fan. He was My favorite, partly because in my mind "He can Do it ALL"! Of maybe he can but, that solo on head had me saying "whoa Prince is Baaad on those keyboards", ok he is BUT THAT WAS FINK that impressed me...... The Kid put his name on somebody else's homework for that "A" grade. It wasn't until my late 40s that I actually found out what a true NArcissist is. They fool everybody.... until we see through the mask. They emphasize what other wouldn't be without them, what would they be without those others. Hey, are we talking about a pimp here? lol

I remember the attention Morris and Jerome received from the press, media, TV, music mags etc. and how Morris and Jerome, stole the movie. When I saw Purple Rain at the theater in LA, I forget the name of the theater but it was at the USC adjacent 'Village' outdoor mall, IN 1984, when The Time appeared on screen to perform I'm telling you, the Black youth got UP and started dancing and I was like in the middle of a concert! So that kind of thing you know... may have bothered Prince a bit. So much so he did his own dynamic duo with Jerome in UTCM I think to prove he could be funny in the same way, that amongst other ideas and hidden meanings. Anyway. I came out of that theater a fan of Prince more so than The Time, but I liked it ALL. I was convinced!

Until Purple Rain he was not financially set up to employee that many people. Be realistic and think through the comments from people that are jealous, full of envy and wanting the life Prince was evolving through a strong work commitment, practicing many hours and skill. They could all work as hard to succeed like Prince. As for music, Prince gave Andre a great hit that was a success. As for money, Prince didn’t spend his on anything but what he needed to help him succeed.

People need to also remember they were all young and trying to make it and Prince opened the door for them all. These segments are about Prince in his 20s and not the man he became once he matured. The drive was still there but he was much more relaxed and still continued to help other Artist and I won't even mention all the humanitarian things he did throughout his career. I certainly am not the same person I was in my 20s or early 30s, most people aren't. Too judge anyone's whole life based on just a fraction of their life isn't fair, especially when they are young.

some friends make a band, share ideas and all of them have a dream of making it big. One of the guys takes a demo they made together and gets a deal under the guise that its just him alone. That guy get backing from the majors and the majors market the "it's all me story". The world LOVES the "its me" guy because that really is impressive. The it's me guy says "I have the ring, you guys are sidemen even though I'm playing the stuff WE ALL MADE UP". Hahhha, I'm bigger, I'm the best, the world believes the LIE! I WIN! This is mixing toxic narcissism "Strange Relationship" -Smeagle from Lord of the rings style friendship with greed type business. That said, even if they weren't friends, same thing would happen when dealing with that type of businessman. Thanks Matt Fink, I love that solo on "head" you made me think Prince really got down on that! I wanted to be like "HIM". lol Of course I grew up as a Prince fan, he was my favorite because I thought he did it ALL. He probably would have still been my favorite as the frontman for the guys I really/actually liked and didn't know it was THEM. Ok "sideman". what a JOKE! We fell for it. The thing I find most interesting, is that none of these people had anything to say while he was alive. He's not here to tell his side of the story so it's pretty easy to exaggerate things and just simply portray things in a different light. And then everyone seems to think that he owed them something. I think there was a lot of jealousy going around. And it's always tricky to work with someone you are friends with, and that is underscored by most of the people in this video.

I don't think he turned his back on them it was just time to move on to more challenging music for him. He had to grow and he couldn't do it with this current backing band. It's like staying at the same old job in the same position for years and never growing. You can become stagnant and Prince had too much music in him and he needed better musicians to see it come to fruition. Nothing against them but it is what it is.

This is a real pity party for the wannabe Princes. Those that left him, say they wanted to succeed on their own and implied Prince was stealing from them for his own success. Do they realise what that sounds like and says about them. The WB contract was Princes sole contract. He wanted to bring his friends along but it would never be as equal and they had to realise that.
@letssee9
@letssee9 2 жыл бұрын
Prince got that contract by using a demo they all made together. He told WB , it was him alone. He wanted to bring his friend but not pay them. lol He got MOrris a deal then kept him and the time from performing in major markets because they would show him up at times! Sabotaged some of their shows "as a joke" sometimes, didn't want them to do outside projects because "like Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis" proved THEY MIGHT JUST PRODUCE SOME OF THE BIggest projects in music history and become GREAT themselves. No they wouldn't look like him and dance in heels like him but still dominate and sell the parts of the Minneapolis sound they create without HIM seeming like the MASTER. lol And I'm saying this a a Prince fan. He was my favorite, but this is ugly. I'm not gonna call any of these guys Prince wannabees, they were his peers. I might call them Prince wannabees if I saw them in panties and a trench coat or some other Prince-isms though, to be fair. These videos are dope and the comments are fun. Thanks for yours.

107:44 Wendy said he sounds like us!! She was serious although she had to laugh it off. Then listen to what Lisa says. Without a doubt, Wendy and Lisa helped Prince develop his sound. They added the ingredients that his music needed💯🤍 PrinCe was influenced by Wendy and Lisa more then anyone he's ever heard. He will never tell you this but believe me its true! Wendy and Lisa are trained musicians that went to school for music. Both of their bothers were geniuses, you remember those strings at the end of Purple Rain? That was Jonathan Melvoin {brother}. Oh and the song "Around the world in a day" that was David Coleman's musical idea.{other bro}. So you see this wasn't a family to be played with, when it came to music. I personally feel that Prince didn't give them enough praise.💜 {107:50} Lisa said it best! Swap barter an trade, teach and give and steal. They were giggling but serious. Did Prince make him take the salary? Remember being in a movie was great exposure for them especially when NONE of them had acted before. Prince gave them a band, wrote their songs, took them on tour and put them in a movie. The movie took about 40 days to make and I'm sure Morris didn't divide the money 7 ways, lol. And even if he did that's about 7grand each for a month's work back in 1983. 50,000 grand is equivalent to $138,000 today for a month's work with no experience, so that's 20 grand a piece if divided evenly, which I doubt Morris did.

@@chica4530 You know you sound kind slow my friend no offense meant either. 🙏 However, Jesse Johnson has verified all this and I think I’ll take their statements over yours since they were there and you weren’t! Also, it doesn’t matter if he introduced them to an lifestyle or audience, it doesn’t give him the right to abuse and make up last minute rules to keep from paying them like he did Morris. But, since you think so go to work and tell your boss that you don’t deserve your check for the work that you did! That’s just plain wrong and it paints a picture of Prince as a not so nice individual at some point, though I do think he changed and esp so after he was diagnosed with cancer/aids..

@@mrquick6775 Seems you are the one that is slow. I broke down to you what 50 grand is worth in today's market. Again, none had any acting experience so what do you think they should have been paid in 1983? Morris said he had to pay his band out of the 50,000 which includes Jesse so it seems to me Morris kept the majority of the money himself. Also, I didn't know you were Prince's doctor to say he had cancer or aids. It would be wise not to make assumptions on whether I was there or not but carry on. lol

@@chica4530 Just stop again you sound dishonest and delusional!! First of all I’m a musician and I have industry contacts and I’m close friends with a keyboard player that played with Prince and he verified a lot of stuff, probably some that your fragile limited intellect could even begin to comprehend. Yes Prince was all that and bag of chicks, 😀a super supreme musical genius and child prodigy! He was my idol and one of the biggest reasons I started playing and I play multiple instruments too!! 👀 However, he’s still human prone to error, mistakes and being an asshole.. Again.. he stiffed Morris and and it wasn’t rite. Morris only ended up with only 17k by the way!! But the problem is not how far fifty grand went back then or whether or not they had acting skills are you really this dense?? All that is irrelevant, the people that he stiffed had to hire lawyers. And guess what Eisenstein?? Lawyers cost money! Lots of 💰 so think and use your nogin. Gessh, I feel sorry for you, but the first problem is that Morris shouldn’t have had to pay them out of that money! It wasn’t I’m the original contract and he did the same thing to Brown Mark when he left.. same shyt different day in fact he was known to stiff people. He stiffed at least five people, during his stent. Although Bobby Z said that he paid him 50k a year and at the end of the purple rain tour gave them each a million dollar 💰bonus. 💯👍By the time Rosie Gains came around she was making $2,000 a week!!😉 So that’s definitely an upside to how he treated others, a milli is equal to about 2.7 mill today.. Also you’d have to be pretty dense to not know that Prince was sick 😷 I mean he practically came out and said it: who writes a memoir at that stage in life, who sends out tweets that says: “Just when you think you were safe”! It will eventually come out and the truth will become known, he was hooked on opioids sure. But he was already in decline and dying.. Btw, stop assuming you are the only one in the know..
