Prince Rama Varma - Tyagaraja Aradhana - March 2019 - Bantureeti

On a hot, sweltering day in March 2019, Prince Rama Varma with his amazing team of Sri S.R.Vinu, Sri B.Harikumar, Adichanallur Sri Anilkumar and Thirunakkara Sri Retheesh, regaled the lucky music lovers at Thiruvananthapuram with an amazing concert dedicated to Saint Thyagaraja, as part of the Trinity Festival organized by Sri Swathi Thirunal Sangeetha Sabha, Thiruvananthapuram.
Despite being a native Malayalam speaker, Varma ji brought out the very soul and spirit of Saint Thyagaraja with his intimate bond with the Telugu lyrics, many of which Varma ji brought closer to the Malayali listeners with his succinct and delightful introductions.
The shift from Varma ji's sparkling and spontaneous sense of humour while speaking and the soul stirring depths which he plumbs while singing, is simply stunning, as is the complete surrender before the lyrics as well as the music of the great composer.
The teamwork with the four co - artists is just top notch as always.
I feel privileged to share these videos with lovers of good music all over the world.

Totally agree. In this rendition though, I feel Varma-ji has excelled his guru even! Every time I hear him, I feel he very much resembles his illustrious guru in all aspects of sangIta and sAhitya.. Balamurali-gaaru has taught all his disciples so well, what a wonderful guru he was.. Of course, Avaneeswaram Vinu, Harikumar and the others have provided superb accompaniment.
