Prince was so talented, he left us too soon. RIP Prince. I remember seeing his limo drive by an art festival in lower town St. Paul. He lowered his limo window and looked at us.Oh how I regret not having my camera with me. RIP , Prince. You will always be missed.

I was 6 years old and my parents took me with them to see Purple Rain because they couldn’t find a babysitter that night. I’ll never forget my Moms hands covering my eyes several times throughout the movie, just as I’ll never forget the music I got the honor of hearing that night. That movie and soundtrack will always be a huge part of my life and how crazy looking back, it was the first movie I ever saw in theatre’s.

I'm sooo grateful for having been there from the beginning. In 1979, the first 45 vinyl record I bought with money for my straight As(I was 8). Was Prince I WANNA BE YOUR LOVER. My love affair with Prince had begun. I was a fan the first time I heard that song. I'm so lucky I got to see him in concert twice. The world isn't the same without him.💜

I beat you . My first Prince record was SOFT AND WET. It was on his FOR YOU album, his first. It was 1978 and I was 12 years old. We loved him because he was the first person to write, produce and play every instrument himself. People should look into his catalog and see his evolution. He was only 19 when he started. I will always be a Prince fan.

Prince and Michael Jackson were two of the most greatest singers in their era. I love them both. The media likes to drive the narrative of the “rivalry” they had. But in reality, there was no rivalry. In fact, when MJ died, Prince locked himself in his room and wouldn’t come out for a few days. He was devastated. There was no rivalry. Just simply two musicians who respected each other.

Prince was a great musician, he wrote his own music, he played a lot of instruments and he could dance. He even gave some of his music to other musicians and they were number one hits and it makes me sad that he is gone, but he won't be forgotten and his music will live on! 1984 was a seminal year in music, arts, culture, and movies - yet Prince rose above and lasted. So much was happening back then, so many artists were making things that seemed immediate and coming with a new wave in the "New Wave" era - and Prince crested that wave and rode it to the end of the decade with his _Batman (1988_ soundtrack. Now we live in a world without Prince's musical genius, gone too soon. r. i. p. Prince Rogers Nelson - may his memory be a blessing to all

I was 8 years old in 1982 when a neighbor played her mom's brand new 1999 cassette while we were hanging out in her living room. It was literally a life changing moment for me. I became obsessed, even though my mom tried really hard to stop me from listening to him once she heard Let's Pretend We're Married. 4 years later I made my first money by babysitting my nephews, and I spent that first earning on a copy of the soundtrack to Under the Cherry Moon. I'd already seen Purple Rain about 100 times on hbo by then, lol. Now I'm 50, and he remains one of my all time favorites. I got a little emotional watching this, I can't believe it's been 40 years.

My dad bought me the album as soon as it came out, and my g'friends and I saw him on that tour - admittedly from not-great seats behind the stage - at The Spectrum in Philly. I had no appreciation then for his unbelievable talent, I just loved the music. His passing is the saddest of a celebrity I've experienced. I’m not sure who oversaw the editing of this video but it’s the perfect example of you can’t always trust the media because when they mentioned something Prince told B.E.T. they cut to a clip from an appearance he made on the Tavis Smiley show that aired on PBS. And Prince didn’t land a record deal at 19. He was 17 when he signed with Warner bros. and 19 when his first album was released

Nothing compares to PRINCE. Everything he did was successful because he was true to himself and he invited, challenged and respected his fans. As he once said “the only failure is not doing what you desire.” And side note, I disagree with the lady who said “Purple Rain” is not a good movie. There’s music, romance, conflict, laughs and drama. I love the movie when I saw it in the theater twice in 1984 and I love the movie even more in 2024.

Well, I have to disagree with the black female in this video. PURPLE RAIN may have not been the best movie. However, it is, indeed, the best musical movie. I say that wholeheartedly. I put it up against any of the previous musical movies before it’s time. That movie had such a huge impact on people. When I first saw it, I was memorized. One reason was for all the beast music, and second, because it was the first time that we actually got to hear Prince’s everyday voice. PURPLE RAIN was pure magic! Peace.

This is the 'Purple Rain Revolution' and should in my view, probably be identified as such today. There was a Revolution version of this band BEFORE Purple Rain and then an expanded 'Counter Revolution' during the Parade era. There could have also been now to think of it, a Purple Rain Tour Revolution that included Eddie M and Eric Leeds AND may even have had quasi extended members such as Jerome Benton, Wally Safford and Greg Brooks. Purple Rain was when I was just convinced this guy was amazing, this was an incredible artist, flat out, no question that was IT. I walked out of the theater shaking. And, Prince, for me, continued to rock me to the core. Consistently. Challenging me, giving me hints as to what made him who he was, what he was about. Prince created his own self contained culture, and band members, dancers, etc. etc. all had this Prince thing, it was amazing. HOWEVER!!! TODAY I have almost NO nostalgia for Purple Rain, especially when it seems forced down my that I MUST be nostalgic.. or else!!! Wendy might come after U.
