One of the best things my family ever did was sit down and make a family budget. I think too often children are left in the dark about how much things really cost. I think seeing the financial reality of her parents was exactly what was needed. I loved this episode.

Yeah, I make my own budget but I think I'm going to sit down with my kids and do a family budget. Even though I'm the only one working but they're teens, old enough to get jobs. I think of they realize how much I spend every month it'll put more of a fire under them to complete their online high school and start learning some skills

Sadly we didn't have enough when I was a child so I learned this because we didn't have enough for food so I learned to look for food deals even back then. And ways to save and make money to help support the family

It could also be, parents don’t share not just because they are too afraid of gossip. But they are too prideful arrogant condescending ashamed or narcissistic to even share a bit. They just want obedient robots like that. My ignorant and dumb Asian family was like that

I think a lot of what helped her have the right attitude is having a very big dream that she truly wants to achieve. It was nice that they included her family so much, too, like having her open the savings accounts and budget with her parents. I hope she's doing well.

I really see myself in a lot of these episodes as I think I was slightly spoiled when I was younger. My father was quite wealthy because of his very hard work during his younger years, and he always said yes to me for too many things sometimes. And I took advantage of that. I was also not allowed to ask about our finances as it was frowned upon in our culture, as a form of disrespect. And when I asked for help with finances, it was also frowned upon. I often did not have to do any chores as well. Thankfully, I had a bit of a streak of independence and didn't like asking for money as I got older as I found it embarrassing. I also didn't like my family cleaning up my room as I also found that to be an invasion of privacy, however I do think I could have done more to help out around the home than just doing dishes. I did enjoy cooking for my family as that was an activity I naturally enjoyed. But to this day, I have a bit of a crappy attitude around cleaning and don't enjoy it - I'm working on that as I would love it if my home was more clean. Also, I still have a hard time at 35 to make enough money to contribute equally to my husband. In the past, my family has given me money here and there as they knew I was not earning much past minimum wage, but now they are not in a financial position to do so, I realised I relied on these generous gifts a little too much in the past. Now I need to work on a plan to earn more and earn my independence back, and to contribute proudly to our home expenses, as I currently only pay for the utilities. I often feel embarrassed when I am unable to contribute 50% of our total housing expenses, or when my husband has to pay for more of our trips or dates than I do, or when he offers to buy me clothes because I barely have a budget for that. I'm hopeful that I can earn more in the future, and also have a successful business too.
