No, he was after the three-eyed raven, who is the one to provide the information that can stop him. Bloodraven knew that, and also knew it was only a matter of time before the Night King found a way to enter his cave, hence his search for someone to succeed him who wasn't bound to the tree in that cave.

Let me just say that I would have disagreed even if I hadn't known the ending: We know that long before Dany and Jon meet up the NK has risen, even long before the dragons are born. I know that this child-murder would fit into your mirror-narrative about the NK very well, but I think if we assume that Rhaegar was actually the prince who was promised and Jon, a child deprived of his mother, was Lightbringer (the sword in the darkness), it's also very fitting to assume that his birth let the Others rise again. Or, on a greater scale: the whole civil war was. How many children have been killed by someone who wants to secure his or her power? So... what if there is only one true god - the god of death, who both made the Others rise again and guided Bran? PS: Btw I love your approach. It is as intelligent as GRRMs story deserves it.

Good explanation. Dany is still the target though. Without her, the prince who was promised can not be born. The Ghost of High Heart said he would be born of the line of Aerys and Rhaella, and Dany is the only one directly of that line (Jon is only indirectly of the line). The Night King is Mirri Maz Duur, basically (not the same person, obviously!)

Jon is the son of Rhaegar so he therefore still considered to be from A & R line paternally. Dany is of course. Their child is also therefore descended from A & R line. Martin has used Jon (nephew) - Dany (aunt) much in the same way as King Arthur (half-brother) - Morgaine (half-sister) being brought back together to mate during Beltane without knowing they are related after being separated in early childhood.
