Except it isn't. It is very common to have a concussion without memory loss. To be kept in hospital for a week following a head injury resulting in memory loss is good indication that it was actually a reasonably serious head injury. For a woman of that age that is a concerning injury to sustain. Now that doesn't mean she won't make a full recovery, but the normal course of events for a minor but apparent concussion is to not have memory loss but to be kept in for 24 hours for observation just in case something develops as it can take a while for the full consequences to play out and those consequences can be rapid and dangerous. If nothing happens, you're on your way. You take it easy for a day or so and its all in the past. Obviously they err on the side of caution with an elderly patient, and they're almost certainly more precious with a Royal, but be that as it may we can be reasonably sure princess Anne would be resistant to a long stay, and nobody wastes a hospital bed, not even for a member of the Royal family. So its clear this is a significant injury.

Not being to remember what happens in an accident is incredibly common. When you have proper concussion it is normal to have memory gaps. I have had concussion quite a few times because I have horses and honestly it’s not as alarmist as people say as long as you have proper medical attention, hence hospital. Unless she has other non declared issues she will be fine but probably very bored

I'm not a fan of the UK Royal family, but still, Princess Anne is 73 years old, and taking a kick to the head from a horse at any age is going to do serious damage, no matter how robust you are for your age. Concussion is one of the most dangerous side effects of any accident, and can affect you even days after you've been cleared as fit by a doctor. I've banged my head on a kitchen cupboard, and lost my memory for a short while after, as that is what concussion does at times, no matter how slight a knock to the head, let alone a kick from a horse. Doubtless Princess Anne won't be laying on a hospital trolley in a corridor, like so many others in hospital today, due to the state of the health services, but keep in mind, she is still a fragile woman at her age, and will need to take time to recover fully. Her brother Charles has cancer, Princess Catherine has cancer, Sarah Ferguson has cancer, and all that on top of getting kicked in the head by a horse on top will have an effect on her health even before this happened, due to the stress she's been dealing with behind the scenes. Give her time to heal, let her come back to herself and her family when she's ready, and please, somebody, muzzle the Harkles (H&M together) before either one of them tries to turn this episode into yet another of their victim role-playing, attention gathering exercises to pull focus away from Princess Anne and back onto them again.

I was once rammed by an horse called Charlotte. I saw her coming at full gallop: I saw the other four plodding towards me as usual: I felt my body fold and the wind go from me and I remember being in the air as if in slow motion. I came to some time later, I know not how long but all the food buckets were by then empty and I opened my eyes to focus on 20 legs seeming to stretch to the sun, high above and 5 anxious faces all looking down into my eyes. I was frightened even to try and move. Had I been trampled? had I been grabbed in jaws and thrown?? No, I had been rammed with Charlottes head and flank but my G - d, what power!! what force of a charging, hungry mare!! I forgave her but I was always cautious when feeding horses from that moment on. Charlotte was a French hunter and I was the families' odd job man! I was 51 then, I am 75 now! Were it to be now, that I had such an encounter, I think it would take far longer to get over the shock but I'll tell you this, the memory has never fully come back: I only know that it was the head and flank as a farmer and his wife on their family tractor, some fields away, saw what happened but had not been in a position to rush to my aid until I'd somewhat recovered.

Not that concerning to know as she was kicked in the head by a horse. Doctors will want to ensure there are no bleeds in her head post accident as this can often be the cause of death in common folk who don’t get the private treatment after such events. Best wishes to her she should know better really to get within kicking range of a horse. I’ve met her and used to watch her at Burley Horse trials a few times. Very down to earth women and calls a spade a spade. No sign of her silver spoon.

It's more likely she came into contact with a horse's head. It happened to me once. No idea what happened at the time and thirty-years later I still do not know how it happened. Strangely I was one side of a closed gate and the horses were in the field.

oh the memory loss is permanent. When you suffer a blow to the head the electrical circuits are scrambled, and short term memories are never turned into long term ones. You' remember walking across the field and then waking up in an ambulance. If someone with a head injury can describe exactly what happened to them every second, either the injury was very mild...just a bruise to the skin....or they'r e faking it to get out of something. They would keep her in hospital longer than average because when you're older, you're more likely to have a slow brain bleed that will lead to a stroke.

A normal symptom of concussion is memory loss, quite normal the actual time and day of the injury .Do your research and stop making assumptions ,take into account that Anne is in her 70s so a bit slower to bounce back. It's so funny hearing Charlotte Griffiths informally refer to King Charles as "Charles" on a news program. I never heard anyone call Queen Elizabeth "Elizabeth"...she was always referred to as Her Majesty, The Queen, I think because she commanded that type of respect through the way she conducted herself in public. I shudder to think what they will be calling Prince William when he eventually becomes King...perhaps "Willy"- LOL! I wish Princess Anne all the best for a swift and full recovery. I'm sure it is driving her mad having to miss the Japanese State Dinner and her trip to Canada as well as being hospital bound this week.
