SPOILERS I'm here to comment that the fact that Lauren apologises to the mom instead of the other way around STILL makes me ANGRY! She did nothing wrong here! The writing in these movies so often have this whiplash of "nope, the person who was actually right HAS TO APOLOGISE!" It's as if there was a typo in the script but they went with it ... * tsks and tuts continuously into the distance * I also hate that the movie acts like the only way the mom could ever have any sympathy for Lauren is because of her miscarriage. Like, with everything else this woman just doesn't give a CRAP (!) about her. Also, since Halloween is coming ... I hope we get more Donkey Ollie soon!

I hope that in the next movie, Lauren dies in a housefire and the next movie is about Uncle Drew wanting to follow his dream of being a writer or something. Then a piano falls on Drew and the fourth movie is about Grace's daughter and on and on all the while the mom is manipulating the family into keeping their failing business.

I had to check the two films were actually directed by the same person because the second PC movie feels like a veiled criticism of the first. In the first one, it was extremely easy for us all to point out how much of an issue the over controlling, old fashioned father was and the frankly dangerous hold he had on his family with the way he indoctrinated them, despite the film framing this as a good thing. In the second one, we see Lauren, an outsider, struggling with the way the family does things, like any normal rational person would, almost like an audience surrogate. We also see that the father’s stubborn way of sticking to his holier-than-thou guns literally KILLED him and have left his family a dysfunctional mess in the wake of that. Maybe I’m reading too much into it but PC 2 is not only a better film, it feels like it’s subtly criticising its predecessor as a sort of cautionary tale and that’s extremely interesting to me.

Lauren seems like a good and well-written character. I could not believe when I saw this guy in these clips that it was him. So I guess the older was replaced actor-wise by the guy who plays Adam Rusek in Chicago P.D., wonder how he got on board or why he said yes to something like this. Once upon a time there was a word applied to books and movies that told you their artistic value was limited as was the degree to which they confronted tough questions honestly. It was the word “inspirational.” The word may have faded but the audience for it remains. Trying to transition from explicitly religious material to “inspirational” to straight-up drama-all the while holding an audience--is not easy. If that's where the PC producers are headed they have their work cut out for them.

It feels like after PC1 the creators pulled their heads out of their asses and said "Ya know, we're not going to do the Citizen Kane of christian films, but we are able to do a pretty decent one that can get a little close to it". Yeah, it's not a great film but they took a turd they themselves made and really work in it to make it as gorgeous as they could. I can believe these are people, that they grow, yeah, they still stumble into their own agenda and sturdy stubborn morals, but they made a film leagues better, so much so that you could argue that it could work better had it not been attached to the Princess Cut brand.
