Princess Leonor of Spain, offering to the Virgen Del Pilar the day before the Oath Of Allegiance

The day before the Oath of Allegiance, Princess of Asturias, Princess Leonor, Future Queen of Spain, along with newly admitted knights and lady cadets from the General Military Academy, takes part in a time-honored tradition. They gather to make a special offering to the Virgen del Pilar.
This sacred ceremony takes place at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar in Zaragoza. The cadets move to the basilica to present themselves before the Virgin, carrying on a tradition that binds them to the city of Zaragoza.
In the Plaza del Pilar, the cadets form a battalion. Here, they participate in a simple yet profound ceremony. Those who wish to do so invoke the protection and guidance of the Virgin as they prepare to serve Spain in the Army and Civil Guard.
This act not only symbolizes the commitment of future officers but also connects them to the rich history of those who came before them. Zaragoza, the home of the General Military Academy since 1927, plays a crucial role in this tradition.
Presentations to the Virgin occur daily and involve asking for her protection while recognizing her significance as the patroness of Zaragoza and Aragon. The love and devotion to her extend throughout Spain and its sister towns in America.
ritual begins with a reception at the lower door of the square by a church official from the Cathedral Basilica del Pilar. A procession leads to the Holy Chapel. There, a representative of the offering institution speaks words of petition and offering before depositing flowers at the Virgin's feet.
Knights and lady cadets follow a similar model adapted to the Spanish Army's customs. The event starts with a formation outside the cathedral basilica and proceeds inside, where they approach the Virgin individually to salute her.
This year, the Archbishop of Zaragoza, Monsignor Carlos Escribano Subías, has been responsible for receiving the cadets. He is accompanied by members of the Metropolitan Cabildo, the Escolania de Infantes del Pilar, and representatives of the Knights of the Virgen del Pilar and the Ladies of the Court of Honor.
The General Military Academy, founded in 1882, has played a vital role in shaping the officers of the Army, Civil Guard, and Common Corps of the Armed Forces. Their mission: to train officers with technical expertise, physical readiness, and unwavering moral principles, committed to serving Spain to the best of their abilities.
