In this trying times, Queen Margrethe may have think that trimming the titles of Her grandchildren is a just and right decision for the monarchy to keep it up with the economic conditions of the country. While Denmark is not a struggling country, the Queen foresee the future that something must be done in case there's a slump in economy and cost cutting of royal expenditures is a contributory factor to help avert it. I salute Her Majesty for Her bold decision .She's a role model to Royals. Other monarchies should follow ,time has change and its just proper to go with the world trend. Gone are the days of too much reverence to Royals although they still fascinates us.

@@iyu9096 it is Her Majesty's decision in the current day in age to allow her grandchildren to have broader opportunities outside of the Royal House. They are still part of the family and can still participate in royal gatherings as grandchildren of the monarch. And the line of succession hasn't changed either. If they choose to be part of the family, they can and if they chose they want to have a separate career, they can do that as well.

They are not in direct line of the throne, it actually a blessing so now they are free to realise their full potential. God said : Blessed are the poor, poverty comes in many forms. If they are sensible they will know it for the best of them. Princess Anne of the British RF rejected titles for their children and they are happier and more free, away from the prying eyes and able to achieve things they want to in their lifetime. You clearly have no idea about royal succession. It has nothing to do with feelings, favouring or setting aside anyone. It's not a fancy privilege, but a real burden and duty. Like in Sweden, the Danes are now into a slimmed down monarchy where only the descendants of the heir to the throne are HRHs and have prince/princess titles. They still remain part of the royal family and the line of succession.

In Denmark, one have that right, The reigning Monarch. In this case that are HRH Queen Margrethe II. She are the one that have that right, no one else.

Btw. the decision does not change their ranks in relation to the throne but they are so far down that it should be more than unlikely they ever would come to be crowned. None of the 4 grandchildren are today given apanage (on payroll), nor would anyone of them have been if the title release had happened at marriage or at 25 as it has been mentioned. Their parent both have apanage and keep titles.

Its about how the commoners aka non-royals, pay taxes for the privileged few to keep the monarchy going. As the economy continues to go sideways across the globe, royal families are cutting costs because they want to maintain a foothold in society without upsetting the common folk. Prince Joachim and his family have been living in Paris for quite sometime. Prince Joachim even serves in Paris government. They did not give a damn about Denmark. I just listened to the comments from Queen Margaret’s son. To call a change or downgrade of a Royal Title, they simply inherited by birth in a particular Family to be ‘mistreatment’ is ludicrous! Does he understand what ‘mistreatment’ is? Perhaps he doesn’t, which tells me he’s not taken a good look at the lives of others. Their Grandmother has made a decision, for the survival and future of the Royal Famiky. How blessed you each are to have such a woman in charge watching what is happening and doing her best to keep everyone With Titles though some may be different. I know there are not many Royal Families who have survived and likely many will not in the future. Other Royal Houses have removed all Titkes except for a small number which includes the King or Queen and Heir Apparent she noted to make as the Queen and Leader for the benefit of all. Also, think all your children have received and all the many things they’ll likely receive in the future. As a Nitger, I a can assure you if they indeed are lost their identity over this minor change in life, they’ve already got bigger problems which should be addressed. No one should ever define themselves by a Title. To do so, as you can see, isn’t healthy. Your children were born into a family that was able to provide a great life to them and also a Royal Title. They should be very thankful and pleased for the things they’ve received and embrace those gifts. A Title they were given simply by being born isn’t something they’ve earned so why does it identify who they are? A Title is not who someone is but rather how they are addressed. Perhaps, they may go to a University and earn Degrees which may give them a Title? A Title earned through education, is something they will have for their lives. That would indeed say something about them but even then it wouldn’t define them. People are more than any one thing and certainly more than a Title. These things are all temporary. My guess, your children call you Mother & Father or something similar. Those are best and most beautiful Titles you’ll ever have and those are worth a great deal. Cherish what you have and be thankful. Have a talk with your children. If they are indeed known by their Titke and that’s who they are be thankful l you know and can hopefully address the issue with them now. They won’t be alone. Royal Houses all over are removing Titles and benefits to reduce the burden on the people who are struggling to survive. I applaud Queen Margaret! She’s a very kind and smart Lady! 💕

Just to explain. First of all. HRH have related to members of the Royal Danish Court not the Greek. The Greek are not on a Danish "payroll". Furthermore you are incorrect when you talk about "going after someone". The Queen have here related to members of the Royal family that have had obligations towards the Crown but have not been on the independent apanage (payroll). HRH Prince Joakim and his wife are but not their children. Furthermore HRH actually have related to the Royal order from "below" and have not taken away privileges from anyone higher or equal in the Royal protocol order. Their two younger children also live in Paris. The two older boys do NOT live in America. They live in Copenhagen. I personally feels the approach is a bit harsh, could be better way without hurting family members: and to take the prince and princess title from them as that the linage they born into(they dont ask for it) but agree with HRH title to strip as they re not direct line. I thought the working royals in the UK are paid by Duchy of Cornwall which is royal private estate and investment, not by the tax payer’s money. They need more working royals as Princess Anne and the Queen’s cousins are all old folks and the cousins work without being paid. Prince William and his wife couldn’t take that works alone to represent the monarch as patrons and in the Commonwealth visits. I dunno what kind of slimming down Charles has to do as people wouldn’t think they are relevant anymore in future. By the way the stripping off princely titles have long been done since King George V as compared to previously when every descendant is granted the title prince or princess regardless of which line. Now it is bestowed only for the children and the male line grandchildren of the monarch. Even during Queen Elizabeth II, the children of Prince Edward were not styled as prince/princess despite being male line grandchildren of the monarch when they were born.

When I look back in my life, i realised had I been borned into a family of means, I will not have a sense of urgency to learn new skills and to develop the good attitude, most people from such background never really realised their full potential or they tend to cash on their status. If the QM noticed some things are out of line and can foresee some things, then that may be the decision she made. Besides, it may be a blessings cos it really pathetic if people can only survive and rely on a title to made it in life. Titles at the end of the day is a 'Granted' position not a given. I am a mother and I made certain painful decisions because I know my children and I am sure QM has done this after careful considerations. She made the right decisions, and she did it when she still have that cognitive ability to do so.

Even if it was ultimately the right decision to reduce the number of princes and princesses in the Danish Royal Family, it has been handled in a clumsy, ham-fisted way. Which surprises me about Queen Margrethe. A more general rule, similar to the British, of allowing the grandchildren of the Monarch, but not the great grandchilden, could have been implemented with no hurt feelings or sense of loss. Or they could have stuck to the traditional reason for loss of titles, morganatic marriage. In which case Queen Margrethe would have stepped aside and her sister, Benedicte, would now be Queen.

@@schan263 it's not true what the other commenter said. Nikolai and Felix obviously lived off the money their dad was given when they where under 18. But it stopped when they turned 18. This will happen to ALL of the other children (except Prince Christian ofc). It even applies to the Crown Prince's three younger kids. It was decided back in 2016. So, Nikolai and Felix had the title of Prince without doing any official duties and without recieving money from taxpayers.

In life be grateful and develop one's potential. Not leech on others and lived off others especially when this 2nd family is not willing to serve. Their lifestyle in France has been going on for a long time and the Queen has been observing and giving them time. I guess the Harry and Meghan situation made her realise she needs to do something to squash this kind of self entitlement when she is still around cos the Crown Prince will be reluctant to do it and if she does not do it, then in future the Crown Prince will have a difficult time like how Prince Andrew kind of association with that Epstein guy. She saw how QE in not wanting to do the ultimate thing and that put the British RF in a bad light now cos everybody is asking why are the Harkles still hang on to their titles and now demanding titles for their children and the continuing $$$$$ and books and Netflix shows like The Crown. It terrible and the 2 have mikes hidden in them all the time when they were at the funeral and P.Julbulee and wanting to bring in their own photograhers to take photo of Lilibet and the Queen. That why they left early. Cos nothing ! When the family is not in order, adultery leading to Princess Diana's death to all these endless saga, people get especially pissed off with the constant climate change lecture the British RF like to give. Sure take your jet set life and go around telling us to stop what we are doing when their own carbon emission exceed all of us commoners. Royals, who needs them when so many countries do not have one. Kings come expensive never cheap just like centralised government and their spending always increased never decrease.
