Méliès never shot for Vitagraph - or anybody else, for that matter. Smith and Blackton, however, who had both shot for Edison, and founded Vitagraph, bought Méliès' films in London (contrary to Edison, who stole and copied them) and were certainly inspired by his work. George's brother Gaston later set up Méliès' US Branch of Star, but passed in 1915.

The most usual thing about this short is the early use of close up shots. When DW Griffith used close ups six year later in 'Birth of a Nation', it was the first time most audiences had seen the technique.

didn't they know by 1909 that nicotine was toxic? This is a killer fairy; he should have worked out something nastier to do to her (admittedly, she's not much of a supervillain if she has to be set on fire)

If someone had died here this would have been a snuff movie...
