Hey Rob, the other way to save film is to cut off a 1 inch line at the top of the paper, then when it feeds it prints further down. Walmart in Illinois does carry the right paper, but it's very hard to find. I found mine by the colored paper section on a bottom shelf in office supplies. Great Video!

i have just started printing gobo's and the first thing i though of for printing them out is using a document pasting them in a document, then you can move them around. so i do a row at the bottom and work my way up the page for each new print of fresh gobo's. works great I use MS Office Word

I tried printing my own gobo using Apollo Quick-Dry Universal Ink Jet Transparency Film on a basic Canon Ink Jet but couldn't get a very clean or solid image no matter what setting tried. It prints nice & solid on regular paper though. Do you guys recommend any particular brand of film. As far as the printer, I guess I might need a much better printer.... maybe a really good Epson. What do you think?

i take it your gobos are only safe in LED lighting as the asitate wouldent take the heat of a halogen mover or projector would it

Can you apply this same technique for Source Fours?

Hey Rob. Love your videos, dude. I'm having the same trouble as chare002 is: I can't get the gobo dark enough. I'm using a mac, Photoshop CS5, a Brother MFC-J825DW ink jet printer & ApolloQuick Dry Ink Jet Transparency film (very expensive). The transparency setting only has "normal" setting so I'm trying a photo paper setting with "Best" selected. Please, any advice would certainly be appreciated!

Printing on my home printers I never got the density of black I wanted - no matter what settings I used (cheap printers) so ... My tip for printing Gobo's - take it to a print and copy shop - it's what they do, and if they don't get it right they'll do it again until they do! You may need to print on to a sheet of white paper or just have it on a memory stick. I just make mine on a mac in "pages" and I get 30 on a sheet - so I've done a couple for my next 15 weddings in one go.

i agree with you i go to fed ex because i couldnt find the inkjet one. and for a page its 15cents. that sure beat 100+ dollars for a metal or glass gobo.

Walmart offers an online buying service called Site to Store. You can order and pay for the transparencies online and you'll get an e-mail when they arrive at your local store. Then you just go pick them up. 20 sheets for $20.

can you just design lets say 10 of them, then crab and drop all 10 on a 8.5x11 that you create in photoshop, then print them all at once???

does anyone know which version of photoshop that i need to create my own gobos?
@SoundsLikeFunNYC13 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind some LASER printers may distort the image a bit, as the 'film' may stretch - . reprinting on the same sheet may do that as well - Also, if you did a copy/paste within a 8.5 x 11 'image', where each item is the diamter you expect - you can do it with one shot, and get more than 7 on a sheet. Also, a new drum would make sense as investment!

Why not create a full page (8.5x11) blank transparent image in your graphics software then cut and paste your gobos onto that blank image. Looking at the size of those gobo images you could probably fit a dozen on one sheet. Then print the entire sheet rather than flipping and turning the sheet and limiting yourself to 7 as you say. The other problem with this method is there's always that possibility that the first printed gobo image will get damaged when you run the same sheet through the print a second or third or forth time.

You make excellent points! Luckily, I did, later end up doing exactly as you suggested. You are exactly correct about the "Drum" of the printer being a linchpin... I fell victim to some pretty bad print drums. My favorite stretch of gobos that I made were printed at Kinkos :-) "DJ Rockin Rob" was kind of operating near the "beginning" of KZbin DJs. I never had "Todays" resources available. And as a result, it felt cutting edge. It felt, creative and exciting to be doing "New things" and SHARING! So much fun! BUT then, I ruined it all by taking a job that didn't end up being the same job I thought that it would be and basically ended DJRockinRob... As a side note, but relevant, I (in 2024) just installed Windows 10 on a 128gb SD card to run on my Steamdeck, so that I can play MW3!!! DJ Rockin Robs' technology shift happend back when 5mm individually colored LEDs became obsolete.... 25 red, 25 green and 25 blue for a single Par Can.... NOW?? We have SINGLE LEDS that are RGBWA ... on a single MULTI WATT LED!! Hahaha it's a crazy time we live in!! Anyway, Thank you for watching! And Thanks for the walk down memory lane too!! Haha ... Have a great day! 😀

I bought a brother laser printer DCP-7065DN and the black is not solid not matter what settings, dont buy this model if you plan doing laser printing.

Why don't you just put multiple copies of the same image on one page and print once? You can use photoshop to position the images wherever you want on the paper--heck, you can even use MS Word to do that.
