Is that so? Despite the fact that the emulsion is not supposed to be washed away with water into a normal sink/shower/whatever because it's heavily polluting for the environment? Professionals have appropriate filters and/or closed circuit tanks for the water used to remove the emulsion from the screen. So I'd advice you to send some other video to people asking how to get into screen printing, so they will know emulsion must not be disposed of down the drain like it's harmless. You said you've been printing for 20 years. You should know that.

My father and I did screen printing back in the 70s long before computers - and it was caveman style compared to the easier methods these days. This was fascinating to watch and to compare to how we did things on a much more primitive method. I'd forgotten about the need for lots of flat surfaces to allow drying. We used to fill every flat surface, table, countertop...throughout every room in the house back then, lol. I still recall demonstrating silk screening as my 8th-grade science fair project in school and it was a big hit with fellow students and teachers. We printed participation ribbons (1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons) for our track and field day during the science fair - so it was also a very practical and constructive science fair exhibit. I got an 'A' grade on it, hehe.

It's better to tape inside corners of the screen to let the frame live longer. Also you can reuse the same mesh in the same frame by removing light-sensetive emulsion and reapplying new emulsion. Mesh will be damaged over time (there will be tiny bigger holes), but it's ok if it's ok for you personally. Also plastisole ink is a great option, it doesn't dry during work and lasts longer on the fabric

As someone who's been running a tshirt screenprinting shop for 20 years I very much appreciate all the work you put into making everything yourself. I use industrial size equipment like automatic presses, dryer, flash units, and a big light table that takes 6 seconds to burn the image into the screen. Makes me appreciate the equipment I use a lot more after watching this lol...Keep up the good work!

Screen printing continues to be one of the most effective and efficient printing media on the market, and one of the cheapest, as well as reducing production costs from 50 copies. In addition to this, it can print a wide variety of materials, and also allows an interesting variety of special effects by varying the number of threads per inch of the screen, and the type of inks. Very good video and thank you very much for sharing it.

I worked at a printing factory yrs ago. Got to do the printing stuff, but we had another department that made our screens(within factory of course). I find this video interesting to get an idea how they may have made the screens for us to print. We printed only on clothing. For walmart, nike, nike outlet(stuff that has their logo but may have minor mistakes either on the shirt or in the screen), and other stores. We did the heat dry when the shirt got multiple hits of one color or multiple colors. We also used what everyone there said was almost the same as elmers glue(called there as roll tack) to hold the shirts in place. Its cool to see a simplified and smaller time way of doing it. The had big machines with multiple tables and the machine put the ink on the shirt, we just made sure it had ink and shirts to print on. It made a loud horrible pop if it had no shirt and it printed on that table. Especially with fresh roll tack. I made the mistake once after once screen had a minor peel on it and the screen department remade the screen, i turned the machine on wrong and instead of turning it on as a fresh start, i flipped the switch wrong to make the machine think all tables had shirts on them. They were all empty and had fresh roll tack. Yeah we were down for a while while the screen department checked em out again. Somehow, no damage. They didnt understand how i didnt destroy the design with that. Oh good times! Lol.

I would love to see your logo in black on a white tote! This video reminded me of my screen printing days in high school. We had to use duct tape to make hinges because we didn't have actual presses, and we weren't allowed UV emulsion so we cut our designs out of transparent sheets, taped them to the underside of the screen, and tapped off any uncovered areas. It was messy, but fun!

There’s a lot of good info in this video, but to be absolutely clear for anyone who might be intimidated by all the steps, equipment and processes shown, please know that you don’t actually need all this stuff to get started in screenprinting. All you need is a screen, a squeegee and ink. There are a lot of different screenprinting processes you can try that don’t use emulsion and UV lights at all, and while the “press” can make things easier, especially if you are doing a lot of prints that need registration, you don’t actually need it.
