16:49 Doing research, the 11x17 printers are called "wide format" printers on Amazon, around $300+ Comicbooks are printed on 80# card stock for cover, and 60# paper for the main pages

This video is really bad ass. I’m a musician and printing flyers,CDs heat transfers for shirts making stickers and buttons is all very DIY. I would love to bring comics into the shop too

Thank you for this video, it really inspired me while making my first comic. I used a convention as a deadline to force myself to make it from scratch. I looked into printing in the last week and succeeded to make my first copy at midgnight the day before the convention, lol. The paper I bought is weak (80g) but it's not only cool to be able to make this, but also to be able to give these copies to people.

Hey just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate this video. It was very informative and funny and I loved every second of it. I have wanted to make a comic since I was a kid and this has fully inspired me to move on some ideas that I have been kicking around. Thank you a million times over and any future videos you have I will definitely be checking out! You sir are a legend!

Watching this in 2023 the best vid on the actual production of comics and graphic novels. Have etching lithography and offset experience even but this is a brave new world of professional DIY. Appreciate showing the the binding jig, layout and cutting as well as well as so much information and encouragement. Settled upon the Epson 8550 and Staples carries them. Just bought the basic surface laptop studio for drawing have many finished ink pages am finally assembling and adding too. Thank you.

Great video really appreciate it! Love your attitude! Thanks for making it. Handmade is so cool, more arty more precious than a commercial print.

Handmade vs. offsite. I've seen some very nice hand made bound books. They are very nice. Doing it in mass quantity, I'm very skeptical - but happy to be proven wrong.

Hello! I love this "ash can printing" I've been wanting to do for a long time and been research (I am currently looking on how to get scanned files, page size and final print steps worked out as a smooth process). This seems like a good future for comics and other media out there. I never knew the word for this till this video but its been an idea for a while and I got myself a decently nice printer. I got inspired to try this though black metal as they made their own labels to make music to show that anyone can do music, so knowing my other favorite medium is doing this is awesome. For those who are saying ill of this, do not despair they are jealous naysayers, who are too scared or too sheeple to understand. I usually never log in to comment but after seeing this and I felt I needed to. Your comics look great, and added bonus that you like Bakuman. Anyways I would love to know more! I think its more coll to ash can or print at home anyways, shows stronger spirit.

This is really informative and interesting! It's definitely a cool idea and one I'll think about in the future. Not sure about how well it would scale up, but by the time you needed to consider buying more printers you might also have the funds to hire people to bind, cut, and ship books as well. What are your thoughts on KDP or Amazon's fulfillment program? KDP takes a steep cut, but also does all printing and shipping for you. Do you see value in building a library on Amazon's storefront?

I took a break from twitter this week, so not following that stuff, but it's a good video, the budget printer does an amazing job. I really don't mind if the printing isn't perfect, it's the totality of the product that I look at.

Well as our ancestors said ''Ουδέν κακόν αμιγές καλού'' (there is no bad without at least a trace of good inside it). This whole situation with those wise guys might have been frustrating, BUT it lead to a really informative video and possibly some new fans of your work, including me. They tried to present it as if you were going to fulfill thousands of copies in a small home printer, when you actually meant something completely different. My only suggestion, as a professional graphic designer, is that if you intend to print full color books, getting a big digital printer that will provide you with more options on inks(some of them support extra pantone colors to the CMYK) and paper. You can also get a folding/stapling machine and you are good to go. Yes it is an investment but if you consider making books for many years to come (and I really wish this to you) the money you will save on shipping the books from the printer to your house, paying the printer, avoiding possible disasters and delays, will eventually pay off imo. Γιώργο καλή συνέχεια σου εύχομαι και μην δίνεις σημασία σε ανόητους και παλιάνθρωπους. Χαιρετίσματα από την πατρίδα.

How do i set up my pictures intoa good comic format
@bigbeefkeef51432 жыл бұрын
I needed this video in ways you can’t imagine thank you. When it comes to the technical aspects of trying to put together printing and publishing a monthly comic I get apprehensive overwhelmed, confused, scared and an overall since of you know nothing about any of the tools, products, and lingo used in this industry to be doing this by myself. I can draw and write everything else I have to figure out now that I see that someone has done what I thought I could do but got scared and overwhelmed and gave up on my lifelong dream to fall into the worst depression of my life I’ve gotten a much needed boost of dusting myself off and continue the fight. I have quite a few inquiries as regards to other steps in this he publishing a Comicbook in house. Is there any way you’d be willing to share some more knowledge with a heart broken stranger who wishes he didn’t hold a bias against technological evolution because he considered himself a real Og. It’s why I insist my comic must be consumed via monthly on a Wednesday in the form of 22-32pg floppy Comicbook bought from a brick and mortar LCS. I feel that this is the only true way to get your genuine comics fix. But I’ve been forced into acceptance of the digital comic world as I still can’t fully get behind the aspect of consuming minus the collection part of it which just makes me uncomfortable idk why. Anyways what’s the types of paper used for insides and covers and we’re do you go to get it because I haven’t ever seen the any of the type’s of paper used in comics present day being sold at art stores or stationery stores? Is the a website of some kind? Also do you have any videos on how one would transfer his pages into a digital format it can’t be taking a picture of it with a phone could it? That’s how unknoledgable I am and why I’m stuck at this point in the process for the last 2 yr.. 😢

@punkyagogo Жыл бұрын
Since manga is mainly black and white, I’d say any wide format laser printer would be great. They’re expensive new, but you can find a lot of used ones on ebay. Probably the most popular is HP’s Laserjet line. If you don’t plan on working in 11x17, you can just go with any Brother laser printer. Good luck! 👍

This was great. Definitely not in the position at the moment, but when it is applicable for me I'd love to go about everything this way instead. The "on demand" part is the biggest draw to me than anything. It would also obviously be easier to start in this direction and expanding as necessary than moving to it after expansion has already occurred, though I'm sure a wise investor to slowly build toward having enough printers over time. Possibly reserving printing for on demand fulfillment after large runs until the they have the amount equipment and staff to fill their needs. I'll be watching to see how well this works for you and what can be gleamed from the experience.

I tried to find a middle ground and go with a local small business to print my art book and they "went out of business" with my money in their pockets... now I'm literally stuck. I would have been better off ink jet creating an abomination on my 8.5x11 max print-size epson ( which is what any attempt at me making a physical book would look like ) I just keep seeing missed opportunities

Wouldn't any consumer printer destroy newsprint paper stock though? If this video is about the interaction with Peter, I'd say that's an important consideration: being on newsprint is part of Alterna Comics' identity and appeal.
@gprime854 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I'll be happy never to think about that interaction again. This video is about my process, and offering my fellow creators one more tool at their disposal. We can emulate newsprint with all kinds of different papers if we like. If not applicable, it's 100% okay to discard this method in favor of something else.
