Thanks for this tutorial. My press is on its way to me and I’m trying to get set up. Where can I find the registration pins that you mention at 1:40?

Hi there, I get these registration pins from Blick - www.dickblick.com/items/awt-stainless-steel-registration-guides-pkg-of-3/. I use a bit of tape to attach them to the furniture, and the paper slides into the v-shaped wedge. I didn’t need tight registration for these prints, so I only used two pins along one side. For finer registration, you should use three pins - two on one side, and a third pin on an adjacent side. These are nice because they’re flexible - you can squeeze the “v” down so that the roller of the press glides over them without getting stuck.

How and where are you attaching the registration guides?

The registration guides for the paper are taped to the furniture along one side. They are shaped with a "V" that catches the paper and a flat metal strip that lays flat on the surface - I use scotch tape to tape this strip to the furniture. If you're printing from a thin matrix like unmounted linoleum or copper plates, you can just tape the registration guide to the press bed (when you're printing on an etching press, not letterpress). When I print type-high for letterpress, it works better if the paper is lifted up to the same height so I always add an extra piece of furniture that's wide enough to hold these pins.

Thanks for this! The plans for the press have changed from the WordPress blog to another location. I'll post the link in a separate comment, cos I'm pretty sure KZbin will spam block the link. Which means you won't get wind of the change.

Those quoins look very useful. Where can I find some of those?
@jessicawhite83375 ай бұрын
Hi there, these are called "Challenge" quoins, not to be confused with "Challenge HiSpeed" quoins. They're fairly easy to find; just make sure that you get a matching quoin key (each type of quoin uses a different style of quoin key). From a search, I see that there are some currently available at Dry, Inc. - dry-inc.com/products/quoins
