Printing Photos On EPSON EcoTank ET-3850 Printer

The Epson ET-3850 is a decent printer for home use. File printing is good. Photo printing quality is better than I expected. You don't have to buy Epson's photo papers. As long as you use legit photo papers, they will look good. I printed a 4x6 and 8.5x11. The speed itself is average but the quality is better than the HP I used before. I also printed some family and pets photos with it and I like them very much.

A year late, but I just found this video. I just learned (See Keith Cooper FINE ART PRINTS ON ET 2850 video) that the problem is he selected glossy photopaper, and these 4 ink ET xxx units only use the 3 color inks and not the black, thus color & fidelity suffer. If you use matte, then you'll get all inks used, and see richer output. Hope this helps!

I used to use an Epson ET-2550 kzbin.infoUgkxciSwynMJ7PnUvvx11rewiu-yFBkZTl53 , an early model of the ink tank style. It worked well, but had one nuisance that drove me up the wall; if you didn't put it in high quality print mode you'd get a streak across the page. I'm happy to say I have yet to see this with this printer. The print quality has been fantastic so far, the set up was super easy. All in all I'm very happy with this printer.

isn't there a hell of a magenta shift in the photos? I get the impression that the colors aren't the same between screen and print... Would it be possible to put a photo of the image used for the test (even in low resolution) and a photo of the print to judge the différence ?

Press on the picture of the House and the first screen that pops up, press on the "copy" button. This will give you the option (3rd down from the top) that shows a series of dots with the arrow at the middle. If you highlight that box, it will take you to where you can move that middle arrow more to the right, which will make your letters darker.

We have an Epson Artisan 837 6 ink cartridge all in one that is on its last legs, it did excellent photos. So does the 3850 have a second tray for photo paper? We are used to just printing from the a Windows computer, either a document or photo. We use it on a wired network but will print from an Android phone, and sometimes an Apple phone or iPad.

Why do you need to change settings on the front panel. That should all be taken care of by the program you are printing from.I saw the same thing in your envelope video.

No, it's not taken care of by itself. When you close the paper feeder, the setting window will pop up itself and you select the appropriate paper size. If you don't, when you hit print, the program will show an error like document size not matching paper size.

I can't figure out why my printer screen always says "Paper does not match what is in printer". I have set the printer on Premium Presentation Paper Matte, on high quality, for the paper type I am using (as instructed by RedRiverPaper for their 32lb Premium Matte.) The printer always defaults to a warning "The paper type does not match paper in printer." Please help, if you can. Question #2: How can we easily find our "favorite paper settings" that are stored in our list? It appears that one has to go search for it, but then that warning STILL pops up! any help would be much appreciated.

Make sure the print settings that popped up when you click on print on your device ( computer or phone) match that of the printer, i.e the paper size & type you selected when you load your printer. Don’t follow the paper manufacturer’s instructions. Select what’s available in the drop-down list on the printer. I’m not aware that you can have your favorite settings stored.

Can you turn that printer into to a sublimation for t-shirts,? Asking because I just bought the same printer 3850 like 3 weeks ago but haven't put any ink in yet. Is it hard to download that printer to a laptop? Thank you! Your pictures came out very nice

I believe you can. The process will be the same as setting it up with normal ink. You will just use sublimation ink. There are videos teaching you how to do it. BUT, you'll void the warranty on it if you do that! What do you mean by "download the printer to a laptop"? It can be set up easily on your laptop or your smart phone wirelessly if they are connected on the same wifi. Just follow the manual and use the sublimation ink instead of the ink that comes with it.

That I don't know or can't tell. I'm not using the printer exclusively for printing photos. I print a lot of documents too and I haven't seen much ink drain yet.

Hi Paul, If your photos are taken with a camera like a dslr, yes, this printer is recommended and the quality is good enough though not as good as professional printers. If you take your photos with your cellphone and want to print them off, then no, don't buy this printer because you'll find the printing quality really bad. The key is a good camera.

The main feeder in underneath where papers come out. It's like a little drawer and you pull it out. I printed photos using photo papers and it picks up well and no bending at all. There is a rear feed but you can't put a lot of papers in there. I never used that one.

Not really bad quality, just not as good as a DSLR. My Canon rebel t7i runs circles around my camera on my Galaxy S21. Bigger lens, better sensor, better colors etc. Some of the issues, like the noise he has in his images can be easily corrected with software.

does this printer perform duplex scanning ?

yes, you use your hand to rotate LOL. Its dumb that a printer with a scanner does not have duplex scanning. You have to scan the first page, turn it over, then scan the next page. I use Not Another PDF Scanner software instead of the Epson scanner software. You easily rearrange your pages with this software before saving your PDF. If I have multiple double sided pages to scan, I first scan all the front pages, flip them over, scan the back pages, and then use the software to rearrange them in the proper order. A bit of a pain, but I am use to it, Although, I am thinking of getting a small portable double sided scanner I just keep on top of the printer.

Hi, my photos look alright (of course not as good as professional photo printers) probably because I took the photos with my dslr camera and did some basic photoshopping. Phones or tablets' cameras are Ok but you can't expect the photos to look sharp and crisp when you print them. I do believe the more colors, the better results. This printer is definitely not a fancy one. I bought it mostly for its refillable ink cartridges because I print a lot. I think EPSON has a model mainly for photo printing that has 6 refillable colors and sells for $799. That was too much for me. So my advice is if possible, use a better camera to take your photos and try print again. Again, don't expect them to be as good as professional photos. Good luck!☺

Thanks. I hesitate between this printer and the Canon GX6050. According to the tests, the Canon is a little better than the Epson in photography in particular and I really can't decide. this one allows for borderless printing which can be good too. it is true that the printer is for office use but in my case it is for home with the Tank system and therefore also for photo use. I find it unacceptable that manufacturers do photo printers with this system. it doesn't cost more to build, just for profitability. the Canon has more expensive ink than the Epson. not easy to choose because few photo tests.

Yeah, I agree with what you said. It's very unfortunate that manufacturers don't want to make one that is perfect for both purposes. I might make another photo test video using the current printer. This time I'll just take photos using my phone and my dslr camera instead of downloading from the internet. I'll let you know when it's done. It might take a few days.

Hi, have you tried printing on envelopes yet? I looked at their instructions and did as they said but when it was printing, the envelope started to move around. I then pushed the tab to keep the envelope aligned and it did not print correctly. Would you be able to make a video of how to print on an envelope if you know how? I couldn't find a video of anyone printing on video. Thank you.

These look very lackluster to me. Weak black point and mediocre depth in the colors. Not good saturation. I have this printer and came looking for improvement tips. I think unless you're willing to spend a lot on a good photo printer, one is best off just using an online printing service, which are very reasonably prices these days. Thank you for the video.

Uh, as a photographer I would say that the prints are definitely not up to snuff. The blacks are very weak. Without a true black and a true white, you don't have a good print. On the other hand, probably 9 out of 10 users wouldn't notice such things and find this printer just fine.

FYI this is a really bad printer for printing photos quality is really bad if you dont believe me buy it and print out 100 4x6 photos on epson glossy paper, then see what happens FYI im a pro photographer and i own a 8550 and a p900 both of these 2 have been great after a year......your welcome
