@Walakilma Tiger the song is entitled "Mbube" originally written and recorded in the 1930's by a South African named Solomon Linda. He worked at the Carlton Hotel during the week and on weekends he and his choir would compete with other choirs. The song was recorded three times. There were three takes. It's only on the second take, and right at the end, the last chorus, where all of a sudden he improvises. When Solomon Linda steps up to the microphone and he sings these notes that changed history. "Oweeeeeeembubeeee" He NEVER got writing credit or compensation for this song. Smfh

And here it is. That haunting, beautiful African herding music I heard a brief segment of on the radio way, way long ago. DJ got a hold of world music livestock herding music. In Europe herder sung to her herd in soprano, could be the seed of opera. The African example was this, and it blew me away. Now that I 'm older and teaching the children this side of their ancestry my heart cries as I shed tears for the "Mother" I never knew still calling for me to come home. I have played too long in the fields of "afar-off" and she beckons me through the wind with her sweet whisper of the one word we all can relate to-LOVE. Afraid, I can never close my eyes as her every word shows me a ravaged birth right along with the faces of kings great and long past. Soon Mama- soon, I will return home.

The original song, which was recorded in 1939 by Solomon Linda, was called "Mbube" and was a hit in South Africa. Years later the song was stolen by an American record company who added the English lyrics and claimed that South African copyrights were not valid in America. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" is not the original song and it's not the song they are singing in this. This is a cover of "Mbube."
