Thank you for this video! Not only was I able to replace the front passenger door lock actuator on our 2012 Prius V, but I also then felt confident enough to then replace the rear driver side door lock actuator as well. There are a few differences between the 2 doors (e.g., different number of power cables, different mechanism for connecting to the exterior door handle), but the overall process is the same. You saved me a bunch of money, and helped me fix a problem that has annoyed me for over a year. To those of you wondering if you can do it, I have no experience in auto repair beyond replacing headlights (my 2010 Prius burned through a set every year or 2, before Toyota acknowledged the problem and issued a recall), and I was able to do this replacement without any issue. Dave's instructions are spot on.

Fantastic! Toyota wanted $650 to replace this thing. I knew I could do it myself, but I'm always wary of taking apart the new car and breaking a cable or a wire somewhere. Your video allowed me to get this done in under a half hour with a $35 part. Lifesaver, Dave. Absolute lifesaver.

Great video, even for a novice like me. Only suggestions are to mention when putting in the new actuator back in position, the widow guide must be between the actuator and the door handle lever. Took me awhile to figure that out since I didn't catch that in the beginning. Also, I tested the new actuator to make sure the door locks and unlocks before reinstalling everything. Oh, I checked to make sure the window track was in the correct position by sliding the window down and back up. Note that it will sound loud checking the widow, but that's because the door cover is off. Thanks!

Great How-to video. I like that you DONT remove the clear plastic barrier all the way-just enough to access the cables and actuator. Other videos remove the entire barrier-more steps and more chances to break some plastic clips.

Thanks for the video. Stealership wanted 800$ to do the job on my friends Prius. Ridiculous! Your video will surely help me do it faster.

Excellent video! You show and describe everything very clearly. Great job - thanks! Tiresome to see other videos from other persons which don't show.

Awesome video Dave! Thanks so much for giving me the necessary steps and confidence to attempt this! It wasn't really hard at all. I had to change the driver's side actuator and your video was more concise than others I had found that addressed the driver's side. Thanks again for taking the time to post this!

I literally bang/knocked on it twice like the old tvs with the sketchy antennas and it work for now crossing my fingers. Might be from the cold.

Dave, would the part number be the same for the rear door as the front door, if on the same side? I’m replacing the front right one and now the rear right one is acting up.

Great video, thanks!! I was wondering how durable the door clips are. On other cars, I've used a special tool to remove the panel. sometimes pulling a door panel by hand has resulted in damage to the panel. Do you think that's a risk here? Also, where did you get the little pry tool to remove the screw covers and light assembly? Thanks again, this will save me a lot of time money and aggravation.

A door trim tool is always a great idea when pulling doors apart, the pry tool he used looks very similar to one I have from a phone screen replacement kit I used.
