Brilliant! I moved to the area about 15 years ago and Hallam are my local club. It was a choice of Hallam or Wednesday. Wednesday was 40 quid and a crap pie. Hallam was a fiver and cracking pasty. No competition!

So glad you decided to go to Sandygate. I recommended it on your last video in Sheffield although I doubt you saw it. The reason the grounds in a nice area is because Sheffield is effectively divided in two in terms of wealth, because of where the miners, steelworkers etc. settled during the industrial revolution. The area historically known as Hallam/Hallamshire refers mainly to the western area of the city, which is more prosperous. Sheffield FC are still playing in Dronfield after moving there about 20 years ago, which I’ve never understood. Dronfield isn’t in Sheffield. I’m sure there are reasons I’m not aware of though. For the last 5 years or so we’ve been hearing about plans of Sheffield FC moving to Meadowhead at Sheffield Transport, but nothings materialised as far as I know. If you go past Meadowhead roundabout there’s a sign saying ‘The Home of Football coming soon’, but no works been started on the stadium by the looks of things. It was the cricket club that was founded in 1804. There might have been some sort of rugby/football type game that was played in the early 1800s but nothing formal. I used to play for Hallam Cricket Club when I was younger. When you hear about people travelling from all over to see the oldest football ground in the world, it reminds me how lucky I am to have played on that pitch countless times.

That was excellent! Some clubs have had link with cricket. Bramall Lane used to host cricket matches, and Northampton Town used to groundshare with Northants County Cricket Club. In the past some professional footballers played county cricket in the football close season. Geoff Hurst played a few games for Essex.

The sign at 09:52 really isn`t as old as it purports to be,I remember seeing those for sale in Portobello Road Market in the 1970s-1980s,there was an artist in one of the antique shops there who specialised in making ""antiqued" trade signs and you could just tell him what you wanted it to look like and to say on it and he would make them up to bespoke order,te shop also sold signs he had already made to look like antique trade signs for Butcher shops,Greengrocer shops,Sailing clubs,Cricket club,Football clubs etc...In fact I think you can still get them there from a shop called Alice`s which specialises in fake antiques for tourists to take home etc.

I love Sandygate Road, they are in the same division as my local team (or they were before getting promoted). I remember seeing the signed Maradonna shirt in the loo and thinking that was strange too lol. The facilities there are miles ahead of anything else at that level.

Love this video, Hallam are right up their in my Top 20 must visit grounds for this season, hope I can get there before they demolish The Plough, so sad, shame on the council there !! ... And ... you may have visited the "World's Longest Continually Used Football Stadium" but a couple of weeks ago I was taking photos of the "World's Oldest Continually Used Football Stand" opened in 1892 and still in use (albeit just the changing rooms underneath!) for semi-professional football matches ... at Great Yarmouth Town !! Bit of a trek for you, but if you ever get to Norwich City, it's a must do quite nearby ....

Indeed, this part of the world has the seriously old teams. Sheffield FC (est 1857) are due to play Worksop Town (est 1861) this coming season - that'll be a treat for football history enthusiasts.

Hi, great video. You could do the car park of B&Q off Queens Road in Sheffield. This is where Sheffield FC played from 1857 and basically crafted association football (the version which involves minimal ball handling and no hacking of course). The rules developed here pre-date the London FA rules by at least 4 years. See the app Sheffield the Home of Football for the location. Also, I this area is Olive Groves (SWFC's first ground proper) & Bramall Lane the oldest professional football stadium in the world. There is loads more in Sheffield but this is an interesting area.

At some point you should go to Liechtenstein for their 1 professional football team that plays in the Swiss League. For them to qualify for the champions league they would have to win the swiss cup, win the Europa Conference then win the Europa league back to back. A unique club in Europe. Vaduz.

Hallam's ground is the oldest football ground in the world, but it's not the oldest continually used one. That's York Road, Maidenhead, as recognised by FIFA. Hallam had a season or two playing elsewhere. Sandygate is a really nice little place to watch football, although I wouldn't want to try driving there if the roads are icy.

Great video again. I've heard that York Road, the home of Maidenhead United (in the National League), has been in continuous use as a sports ground since the 1700's. It was a cricket ground before.
