I have a real interest in mountaineering and I couldn't believe it when I made the connection to Spencer. I really felt for him and his family. It gave me a different perspective. Spenny reminded me how my life was as a 39 year old as a trader and then portfolio manager in London and our nights out. I have such fond memories of London and the restaurants we frequented most of which don't exist anymore. I wasnt a drinker but still had an absolute ball. Miss that London.

Once chocked on a Malteser. Remember it clear as day, a chubby little 10 year old boy enjoying a big box of Maltesers whilst watching Rey Masterio land one of the sweetest 619's in history. The chubby greedy boy jumps up in joy, to find the Malteser in my chocolate covered mouth had the opposite idea and sank to the middle of my throat. At 10 my brain barely functioned fixated on Rey Masterios celebration I snap out and realise the trouble I'm in. I begin the bang on the coffee table next to me which lures my father down the stairs. The moment he clocks what's happening the man turns into the tasmanian devil and leaves nothing in his way to get to me. A couple of thrusts to the stomach later, I'm free. I can breathe. To hear "chew your food you greedy chubby boy' was a pleasant surprise. Big show was up next.

Just an observation but perhaps Spencer has a different mindset to the guy who was sober for 18 years and still attended AA meetings because Spencer wasn't necessarily an 'addict'. As you suggested, perhaps it was simply boredom and a bad habit hence why he doesn't feel the need for peer support or therapy and hasn't been counting the days since his last drink? And great episode, I really enjoyed it!

This interview was great, re-watching now. Jaimie's comment about wealth shows me how very few people are "rich rich" though. Like, Mark-Francis Vandelli is elite rich/posh. The fact that Jaimie and Spencer have always had to work shows that they're not that rich/posh. When Spencer entered MIC saying he was a broker, I was like: how elite, a banker. But when he tells the story about it, he was working with mostly Essex boys - it wasn't like he was a hedgefund manager for Goldman Sachs. These guys are upper-middle class, as opposed to upper class, as MIC bills them. Nothing wrong with that ofc, and they're obvs not regular Joes (his sister-in-law is Pippa Middleton fgs), but.. they're not upper class.

Spencer, however much he tries to be subtle about it, will always be a bragger. The way he tells a story, he always has to drop in how he’s done it better than someone, or in harsher conditions, or against more odds. His ego is just huge, and its really grating. I dunno how Jamie puts up with it

I think Spencer would benefit from giving therapy another go. I can see his hard front of insecurity, masked by arrogance. Obviously his childhood was detrimental in some ways - being tossed aside by parents and left in boarding school after a family tragedy. Therapy requires honesty and vulnerability, and Spencer is too scared to ever embrace these qualities.
@BeeBee102 жыл бұрын
I totally disagree. Can't see why you think he is insecure or arrogant. He sounds comfortable, happy, level headed and he knows what he's got and what he wants. Thumbs up Spence! 👍

Strange judgemental unsupportive comment. Feels like it’s coming from a place of jealousy but why? Are you scared to say what that motivation is? Doh now I’m copying Wonder Woman’s prejudice 😅
@wonderwoman55282 жыл бұрын
@@Prasutagucaster sorry if my comment came across judgmental. I do like to psychoanalyse and I think conversations like these never get to the root of the problem. Why, if he’s married with kids, did he drink too much? Why wasn’t that enough, and what was causing the unhappiness…?I think a good therapist would be useful.
