Get the engine piping hot, by either idling it for an hour or so or do an Italian tune up - 4th or 3rd gear on the freeway. Those rings can free up if it gets hot enough. If the car is sitting for a long time, rings can get stuck frequently. Happened to me and I freed them up the way I described. Doesn't burn or consume oil anymore.
@James-sir3 ай бұрын
This is probably my favorite build on car guy KZbin right now
@SERP92_3 ай бұрын
Maybe the rings are stuck from sitting too long, you could pour some diesel inside the cylinders and leave it for a day to clean and loosen the rings. After that I'd get the engine to operating temp and check the compression with and without oil in the cylinders to see if the oil rings are bad. I once had an engine with cracked pistons, blowby pressurized my crankcase and oil spat through the PCV system into my intake which made my engine lose and burn a lot of oil, checking if your intake is dry and not oily will also give you some valuable information.

@@PrizzaMike you can Also put ATF or kerosene to cylinders after removing the spark plugs. A well-known topic in Poland, where I come from, is that engines that had been standing for a long time were filled with kerosene or ATF for a few days before starting, poured the oil out, poured it fresh and then started the car. You can also crank car without sparkplugs and Fuel to split the rest of this ATF or kerosene from engine to not brake anything in engine.

What usually happens in these engines is the "tick" is from the lifter free floating cause they are dependent on oil pressure and old oil is tacky inside as its has several parts to assemble. Easiest way is what i did and just run marvel in the oil and oil chamge requently. The smoke in the exhause is prob the ecu making the mixture rich now that the fuel system works. You need a obd1 machine to see if the fuel temp sensor, aicv, tps, and o2 sensors are working in tandem. Ive had all of these problems on my Z.

Oil in the spark plug hole that dropped into the cylinder when you took the plug out will take forever to burn out of that catalytic converter. Other things to check would be a cylinder leak down test, and valve seals. Check your old footage to see the valve seal condition under the valve covers or use a boriscope in the oil filter cap.

I put about 2 months of love into my vg and it's ran for 4 years straight... very slept on engine... did you know it's partially factory forged and extremely internally balanced? Solid dampers won't hurt it. And the na high compression engine holds boost way better than back in the day with modern fuels and tuning Vg30des are hydraulic lifter. They always tap extremely loudly for about 15 min if you let them sit for more than a couple weeks.... my car and may others do this. Drive it hard once you sort everything itll quiet down That being said the valves could be not fully sealing if the lifters aren't pumping up entirely. And oil sledges and thins as it ages. This could be your oil burning. In the summer it's recommended to run 10 40 and 10 30 in the winter with how your climate appears Fresher oil and a additive could swell some of the seals and remedy any seal leaks as well
@blackmagicgarage8713 ай бұрын

Compression test, drain oil after a few miles and replace with an oil that has good cleaning detergents. Replace oil again and hopefully you’ll get some of the hydraulic lifters to get unstuck. The lifters getting stuck is a common issue with VG engines that have sat for a long time. Also check your valve cover gaskets to make sure you don’t have a leak at the spark plugs.
@johnmcgerty93203 ай бұрын
I agree , as a VGDETT owner 13yr lifters can get stuck due to lack of use , .. bit of use & oil changes normally sort 😎

I recently cleaned up the throttle body on my S13 and I used a product called "Nevr-Dull" (listed as Never-Dull on the jungle website) on my butterfly and that stuff shined that thing up to a mirror finish. Really impressed with that product! Too bad you can't see it when everything is assembled! Looks like you had the teflon tape on backwards on at least one of the fittings as it started to come off a bit when you were screwing it in -- ideally it should be wrapped so it tightens up as you spin it in, rather than loosening it. You had quite a bit on there so probably the one I noticed will seal fine.

My first thought was water and a coating of unburned stale fuel in the exhaust from sitting for so long but the fact that the smoke didn't evaporate and instead started to cloud around the car (especially when using the throttle as it is usually steam which evaporates) suggests burning coolant (white smoke) or possibly a mixture of oil and coolant. Oil in the sparkplug holes will take forever to burn off but I'd say do the tests before starting it again as it took me all but 30 seconds of idle (without showing up as overheating) to irreparably warp my already failed head and lower half (which the guy who I bought it off didn't tell me about) from a failed water pump which I didn't know about although it was a different model of car. Wishing you all the best bro, love your content (PS I use your lanyards to hold my work ID!)

If youre looking for tips on camera settings. Id recommend setting the FPS to 23.976, 30 fps or 60 fps. 23.976 (24) will give you a more cinematic look. Motion blur will be very similar to real life. It will also allow you to shoot in lower light environments. The down side is that you wont be able to slow your footage down in post. But based on the content ive seen i dont think you do that very often. Youll want your shutterspeed to be 48 or 50 if you use 24 fps for your video. The other two settings youll adjust are your aperture and iso. For a more cinematic "high quality feel" id recommend locking the aperture to 2.8-4. im not sure what lens you have but im guessing its lowest aperture is 2.8. This will give you a shallow depth of field and give you the blurry background look. I would set the ISO to auto. This will allow the camera to automatically adjust the brightness in the video similar to what you're probably use to with your gopro. For 30fps and 60 fps id recommend the same settings but increase your shutter speed to double the framerate, so 60 & 120 respectively. Again based on your vlog style content i think 24fps would be the best choice for 90% of your content ive watched. It gives you a real world feel (like the audience is with you) and its the best for low light settinga like the end of this video. The only thing you may run into is in bright environments like outside on a sunny day you may need a variable ND filter (basicallg sunglasses for your camera) to keep the settings the same and not have a blown out (very bright/white) image.

Thats similar to my 94 prelude. Sat for probably 4 years before I got it. I got it running and took it for a drive, when I pulled back in the driveway it had a steady stream of heavy blue smoke. Thinking valve stem seals or stuck rings. It did not smoke after sitting for an hour when I cranked it to move it back into my shop. But I know those VG's are notorious for blowing holes in pistons. My uncle and a friend back in school both had 300zx's that had motors go out from holes in pistons.

Can do compression test. Na should be 165-185 across all 6 with no more then 15 psi between your hoghest and lowest cylinder. Can always but 1 cup of atf inside each cylinder. 1 at a time so each can be at bottom dead center. So the entire ring can be submerged since cylinders are slanted. Needs nore volume then an inline would. Let them soak for at least 24 hours each. Thatll loosen any carbon built up in the ring groves and around the rings. Alows the rings to spring again and better seal around cylinder walls. But thats only if your numbers are boyong what nissan wants. Which is that 15 psi between highest and lowest cylonder. If highest is 165. Then lowest cant be 150. At that point motor wont be balanced under high rpms and cause bearings to wear quicker then they should.
