How PROS fix body damage on project cars

My girlfriend's 240sx build is due for some much needed body work. We visit the body master Mikey @garage.sixteen to straighten out some of the quarter panel damage. He provides insight on methods he has learned throughout his 15 years of experience in a body shop. He has a friends Honda S2000 project car in his garage, along with his Nissan 240sx S13. We get to see his gem of an S13 and appreciate the rare 180sx kouki type x interior parts he's acquired.

Every time I watch this guy do bodywork, I get to the end and think "it's over already? wait that was 38 mins?!" He really is talented at this, makes it look so easy, and it's very informative to learn as he does it. Plus he's really funny and chill. If I were you Mike, I'd look around at my cars, glance around to make sure no one is watching me, kick another panel in, just to have an excuse to return for more time with him 🤣

I had a go at a dent in the back of mine recently, and for the first time ever, i resisted the temptation of going straight for the low spot in the middle, and started from the outside instead. it actually came out pretty good. I was surprised. There's deffo an art, to this kind of work, manipulating stress lines. The pros make it look easy

At 12:57 I decided to take a look back to back, opened a new tab and looked at how the dent was in the beginning, that slow progress makes me trip out and I lose focus on how did it look at the beginning :D But dayum, the car is finally getting some attention it deserves, poor thing has gone through a lot. If you get pinholes in your body filler there’s this stuff we use at our shop called 440 express and it’s a bottle of pinhole filler and you apply it with a rag and then you scuff over it with a red scotchbrite pad and then you can prime directly over it and it completely eliminates having to go back over it with dolphin glaze

The nails he’s talking about is called a stud welder, it’s basically just a welder that welds nails loosely to the paint and you use a slide hammer and it yanks them out

Props to the guy for doing great body work . Although hes crazy for saying hes going to pull the engine out just to do intake manifold and exhaust gaskets. Theres space for days even with the tubs, i dont think that cars going to be running anytime soon if that's the case. Only reasonable reason to pull the engine out is if hes going to refresh every gasket and replace the rear main seal & might as well do timing components and water pump while your at it.

i do pdr and i can tell..yeah that glue is hot. The best thing you can do when it does go on your hands is to spread it fast, it might sound crazy but the glue actually dries faster and cools down as well. Got it on four fingers once 💀not funny.

Not a body guy But fixed a small dent on a thicker metal bumper, with a hammer and small plate weight. Could only get it so good and it's not noticeable now, unless you know it was there in the first place. Was interesting but not something I'd wanna do all the time. I've used plungers to make huge dents much less noticeable as well, prob would of worked better for Fran's car, than pushing it out from inside
