I will repeat what I said on KVD channel: In 1976 Roland Martin taught us, if you are on a new body of water, you lock onto to the 15-20ft concur and you follow it and where that concur meets structure (Docks, Rocks, Trees, Gravel, etc.) or is breaks onto a flat or mound that has rocks, weeds, logs, stumps, etc., it will be a pathway that the bass will use all year round. Feed shallow and retreating to the deep for safety. This has truly worked for me and if you fish the Great Lakes like I do, that is how you are going to catch those monster smallies.

I just watched a podcast with Defoe,Evers and Montgomery talking about the rule for FFS in the MLF and since you can only use it one period out of 3,so they were saying it will bring the hole buzzards out if a guy is using it in the first period and someone sees them that decided to use it in a later period.Half the field used it in the first period and only 5 used it in the second period and the remaining 22 used it in the third period. The first period ones are all dominating after day one.Two didn't use it at all today an are within the top40

It's illegal to spot light and kill a deer or whatever your hunting. They have laws about hunting animals. So why do they allow a machine that basically does the same thing except fish. Not to mention tournaments no less. So I don't know why there allowing it. Caught 7 bass over 5 lbs in one summer fishing with live bluegills. I sold my bass boat and bought an angler kayak. I fish the same way i did as a kid. Never owned one electronic aid. Im still catching big bass. But not on public lakes. Last time i fished a public reservoir i caught 14 bass on a berkely power crawl. All 14 had hook tears in their mouths. That was is for me. I fish no boat ramp waters only

Randy, Mark Zona and KVD recently did a podcast, and I was disappointed to hear that they both were involved in helping to develop FFS. I’m assuming their long term sponsors asked them to test and give ideas about what an angler would want. I was so disappointed in these two men who are so highly respected. I have a hard time believing they don’t have any reservations about FFS, but they have long term relationships with their sponsors, and probably feel obligated. Either way, they are supporting the very device that’s destroying our sport. Would love to see you address these two in particular…I’ve stopped following both because of their lack of insight and courage. *edit…just had to turn off Zona’s latest show, where of course he’s scoping..on a fishing show. Can’t even get away from it there..

Randy your exactly right on the mark with this video. When you compare Grand Lake as an example of it's former state of fish populations. I personally lived on and fished Grand from the late 70s to early 90s. You simply just don't see the fish populations even on your electronics that we used to have before live (cheater) scope. The lake is a empty shell of what it was. If electronic companies are going to influence Bass fishing as they have then they need to step up and put some of their profits towards restocking (whatever that includes) efforts to rebuild some of what they have destroyed.

Cameras were made illegal in tournament fishing because it was deemed to give anglers an unfair advantage . With FFS the distance you can see a fish from and the field of view is vastly superior to what can be seen with an underwater camera yet FFS is still legal to use ? Makes zero sense . If tournament organizations won't ban FFS they still have to comply with state laws . If individual States ban FFS on their waters in the fishing regulations the tournament Orgs will be forced to comply . This is the solution .

Another definite impact is that I’ve seen many podcasts showing how much of fishing mind space is shifting to all the electronics system components, like power cable gauge, interfacing all the screens and sensors, voltage control and battery selection, settings. Even the proponents describe the long learning curve on FFS. I’m not into fishing to look at wiring diagrams and talk to my buddies about wiring, power supplies, interface connectors and battery technology.

I just watched Kristine Fischer’s 1st recent tournament KZbin video on Clark Hill. I follow her and really like her and her kayak fishing KZbin videos however, watch how these bass are sorted on the carpet and stuffed in a live well but the worst is at the ending of the trophy ceremony and her fish stuffed in a bag some upside down. Can these fish survive all this? I do t think so Why can’t they just be weighed in a special weight net provided by the tournament right by the boat and released never hardly out of the water. They have a videographer on the boats to prove the weigh in. BASS , Toyota, St. Croix and all other sponsors should be ashamed of all this madness. I love fishing however all this greed is ruining it for everyone! We need to write and boycott all sponsors! Your thoughts please….

Fishing used to have two halves- find the fish, and getting them to bite. FFS has eliminated the first half, actually more because it identifies individual fish and by size. So even apart from whether it affects fish populations or turns fishing into a more expensive sport, it seems obvious that at least half the essence of fishing has been hacked out.

Drew Gill said it today in the second period of the MLf tournament he caught 56 lbs with livescope and almost nothing with out livescope! Omari was the only one catching without the scope ! Wheeler and Connell not catching anything either without the scope ! I have to give major props to Gill for being honest!

It will end up that all the scopers will just be in a contest (tournament?) to see who can bring in the winning bag of fish. No old school finding fish, patterning fish, weather notes, history, time of year, etc. .....all the old school ways to find and catch fish. Will audiences and viewers enjoy and watch those type of tournaments....the most weight of scoped fish wins. I'd watch because I enjoy the sport of tournament fishing but would always be thinking, these anglers didn't find fish,the electronics found the fish. Sad😢. Those anglers didn't use learned fishing skills, they used learned electronic (scoping) ...skills?

On Mark Zona's channel he does a podcast with Kevin VanDam. They try and "normalize" forward facing sonar. VanDam makes a comment, "Secretly they all want to use it. They are all getting one". Are you kidding me! FFS isn't exactly inexpensive. No one I know has it or uses it. I lost respect for Zona and VanDam. They need their sonar company paychecks every month.

Golden era of fishing is over. In East TN you could go and flip trees/docks and catch 20 fish every time you went fishing. Now you're lucky to do that 1-2 times a year. It's called fishing and not catching. With this technology, its nothing but catching and no fishing. Its destroying all fisheries. Why not develop something that swims to the fish and it catches the fish itself if technology knows no bounds? If they stopped tech today in fishing it would still probably take 5+ years to see any benefit.

Ok second issue. YES I believe Live Scope in the hands of a Serious Amateur or Professional Bass Angler is safe for all fisheries. Because Anglers catch and release and/or take great care of the bass in their live wells until weigh in, and then all the fish are released back into the fishery. The DANGER comes from Weekend Warriors that catch and kept that with live scope will DESTROY a fishery in quick time (1-3-years). Because a lot of A'holes limit out, put the fish in a cooler in their trunk and then go back out for more and more. Seen them do it and have reported them numerous times. But I also agree with Randy tournament should outlaw Live Scope, and Side-Band sonars. GPS for navigation, Downward sonar for depth control. Pro Golfers cannot use trick clubs. Pro Ball can't use Aluminum Bats.

I think it's the fishing pressure I fish the Alabama gulf coast around Mobile and Dauphin island without electronics and I catch plenty of fish some days are tougher than others but I have found out the less stuff I carry the more fish I catch I usually carry a 3600 box with less than ten lures and most of that is probably rigging options for soft plastics

Randy, I'm not one to argue at all mainly because I'm to ignorant to argue with people that are clearly more educated and experienced in bass fishing than me, but I do have a few questions or comments that could make me think some of what you said in this video alone could be wrong. 1.) you talk about these lakes being crap basically, but where are the population studies that show drastic downturns in population that can't be explained by weather and other lake related stuff that those people know a lot more about than me? 2.) I don't think the livescopers are the ones sending these bass to the grease. I live close to Toledo Bend and its the dude in the john boat that fishes to eat that kill these fish. In my opinion these guys are not buying $3-4K electronics to catch their 5 fish per day to eat. 3.) Just because the lakes are not fishing good doesn't mean harm has been done, I agree fish are not where they used to be but I think its fish adapting and I think just pressure in general is making these fish break up and become pelagic. Maybe I'm 100% wrong, but I would like to see some kill studies on some of these highly pressured bass tournament lakes. 99% of what you preach I agree with, but it's hard to believe the truth these days with so much disinformation out there.

Watched mlf today and they have only 1 period with livescope and them young 20 year olds are still catching fish without it. These young guys are very good fishermen. But they have better equipment and better lures and more knowledge than the older generation. They have so many rods to fish with, they are better fishermen because of all that. Think about the equipment you had to fish with in the 70s. It was better than the 50s, now look at it and the technology, that’s one reason the young anglers are going to be better than the old guys. Mark Davis said there is an art to using livescope, but he still doesn’t like it. So that tells me it’s not that simple. I’m thinking about getting it and join the young guys 😂

Most the time when i show up to the areas of lakes i fish in each of those states if i see a trailer at the ramp im like hey why are you at my lake 🤣.

Ok Guys, track with me a second. FFS is here, right? Now, why don't we start by having automating rods and reels, this way we don't need to cast and reel fish in. And add to that, self driving boats like we have cars so we don't have to fish and just go for rides? Then if that's not enough, let's create AI guys who fish for us and we don't have to get up at 3am! Yes, I'm being ridiculous! FFS HAS DONE MAJOR DAMAGE to us bass guys! I dont use live scope, don't own it or care to own it. I dont even bass fish. I fish for musky and walleye. Ive found musky fishing there are days that side imaging can turn fish away. I also have friends that bass fish and love live scope. They have openly admitted that for them small mouths have become sensitive to FFS . I do fairly good using mapping and 2d sonar and buck perrys principals of structure fishing to catch fish. Won money in my little boat against big wigs with 100k rigs. Idk what tomorrow will bring but watching people stare at screens and not enjoying the lake and scenery is definitely not my thing.

Sadly, DNRs are never going to limit FFS use because they are in the license sales business and they will not do anything to reduce license sale dollars. FFS is not fair chase.

You will enjoy this. There is a pond near me that is stocked and maintained for several years before a developer started building houses nearby. The pond held bass close to 7# in this ohio pond (which is large here). The developer decided to spray weed killer around the pond and poisoned the water, killing all the fish in the pond. Got to love it when people are more concerned about cosmetic things like weeds and less about nature.

It is all about numbers randy, in the 80s you were the only one at the lake, now there are thousands fishing the same body of water, of course it will be harder to catch Fish on that lake, it doesn't mean the fish have gone extinct.
