15:55 The reason the napalm launcher constantly blows enemies toward you is because of a weird quirk in Blood's programming: there's a slight delay of a few tics that occurs between the impact and the game's calculation of the explosion radius. Since the impact itself is technically non-solid and the Beast has a high running velocity and mass, the impact doesn't actually slow them down at all and by the time the blast radius is calculated, the Beast is a couple of inches _in front_ of the center of the blast radius. Since all objects are programmed to be thrown away from the center of the blast radius, this will knock the Beast toward the player.

Thanks to Civvie I decided to install and play Blood, which sat in my GoG library for 2 years. I finished the main game, then two add-ons and then immediately downloaded Deathwish mod and finished it in two days. This game is THAT good, and while DN3D and Shadow Warrior are also awesome, Blood is the best of three. And honestly, I don't even know why. Is it atmosphere? Fluid movement? Level design, which feels like we are in a real place, but warped due to Tchernobog's presence? I don't know, it just feels good to play, which cannot be said about all oldschool shooters. So THANKS CIVVIE! Also there is a moment in Deathwish mod (The Black Tower level), where you go up the tower to get the key and then backtrack down. After you get the key and turn around the corner, there's a ghost that screams so FUCKING LOUDLY that I almost fell out of my chair and then laughed hysterically for five minutes. Blood is the only game that made me legitimately scared in the last 10 or so years.

The weirdest thing about Ogres from Quake? They were actually harder on the easier difficulties. On Nightmare (the hardest difficulty level), they literally just stand in one spot and fire grenades nonstop at you as long as you are in their line of sight. So all you have to do is get into a spot where the 'nades can't hit you and you're golden. On the easier difficulties they run around and only occasionally fire a grenade when they stop running, so it's much harder to gauge where you should be when they fire.

I'm not sure if that's true, but if it is... who the hell codes something like that?
@LordMisfit5 жыл бұрын
The stomp attack is actually weaponized FALL-DAMAGE. No joke. If you turn on the Boots of Jumping, you are completely immune to its' stomp attack. This still probably isn't very well known however, though I was hoping Civvie might have figured this out. Doesn't mean one pair of Jump Boots will be enough to deal with all the beasts though, even if you efficiently turn them on and off at the right times, so his strategy still applies. :V

14:10 - Anyone having trouble with this final boss sequence? Civvie's advice is solid as evidenced by the fact that I myself used it to get the achievement for beating it on Well Done in less than 3 minutes, but there may be another way (I say "may be" because the strategy I saw and tested was used in the Death Wish mod, though there's no reason to think it wouldn't work here). All you have to do is fire enough Napalm rounds (1 on lightly broiled, but possibly 2 or more) to get the cultist to transform and then run *toward,* yes, *toward* him. There's a specific range where he'll try to walk over and melee you instead of doing the bullshit stomp attack, so just circle-strafe him and as long as you keep the proper distance he'll never hit you even once! The caveat? You can't use weapons that will push him like the shotgun, and obviously no explosives or Flare Gun secondary fire. Your best bet is either the Tesla Cannon or the Tommy Gun's secondary fire. Credit to pagb666's Death Wish video for showing me the strategy: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2mkeqygmsaCn8U

I was having fun with the game up until the last episode, as it felt repetitive by then. It was also unpolished in some areas, like the game's magic/spells being redundant, some weapon upgrades are much more useful than others (and you can't go back on decisions), and some minor bugs and unpolished details (which might have been fixed by now), like different sound qualities and volumes for weapon sounds. Some skills and the character statistics system also require some work, as again some things are just redundant or outright useless. That being said, most of the weapons do feel and sound good, there's a wide variety in locations and enemies, the animations are nice and the soundtrack is also good. If you like oldschool shooters and can find it at a good price, I would recommend picking it up. 11 bucks is the regular price, which is probably fair, although considering its flaws, I think 8-9 would be fairer. I know we are talking about a difference of just 2-3 bucks, but still.

I find the best tactic is to wander round with a tommy gun, as a 'default' weapon. You can quickly disable cultists with it, to stop them firing at you, it's more accurate than a shotgun too.

@medes55975 жыл бұрын
Nblood has the best visuals of any source port so far. GDX is much more accurate to physics and damage and such (despite what Civvie seems to think). I'm hoping night dive will manage to meet the two in the middle and give us the best of both.

I think there's a joke I'm missing at 4:19 or so when Civvie goes "Oh... okay... that uhh..." when he zooms in on the burning mini-caleb.
@donthasai33054 жыл бұрын
I guess the joke is simply that when Mini Calebs burn, their flame guy animation is the same size as any regular burning enemies and their corpses will be normal-size burnt corpses (and not something in proportion with the size of Mini Calebs). I know for sure this is so in the DOS version, possibly it's the same on BloodGDX. Looks like Civvie's disfavor for Post Mortem is reflected in the number of unfinished sentences in this video. :-)

@@MaxDuckwall Well, space I see as a more practical issue. You can find old hardware lying around for next to nothing if you know where to look. That said, my main point is that protesting about what is or is not vanilla just ends up going around in circles. There is always something more "purist" than what you do.
