Wow thank you Pierre! I have always wondered why my camera was taking so long to process my long exposure photos, it was so frustrating! Turning off that long exposure NR setting now 🙂

I'm really enjoying your communication style and demeanor here of late. It looks and feels like you've gone thru your personal re-evaluation and made some great strides. Enjoy this season and be ready to do it again; the next time you start feeling the need. You're stronger for going thru the process. Now, just be wise about what tools you use to evaluate where you are. I'm sure from a business standpoint "likes" are important to you, but in the end you have to be comfortable and confident with who you are and your content. Thanks again for your work!

Just adding to the great cause man because nobody talks about the notions and balances of this so just piggybacking some good stuff with ya. 1. Need Raw but need to save space? shoot compressed raw. 2. For us hybrid shooters for grids, Extend that by adding the 2:35:1 grid so you have the aspect ratio for those who like bars. Turn it on for video too 3. What he said, nothing to add to it lol 4. Video peeps, you already know better, manual! I know times have changed so for us paid shooters you pick the time to do so, never rely on AF in video. Just general talking here I every so often use AF like on my viltrox 20mm, excellent AF but sometimes the camera just unlocks itself for the hell of it if I turn my head just once! not even the lens fault lol .... ..... Bonus: Silent shooting is good, try to stay at your technical PAL/NTSC freq range 50/60 speed to whatever limit. So like my homeslice Pierre will be at 1/50 so he will be 50, 100,150,200,250...etc For us US folks. we're 60, 120, 180/200, maybe 250, 320...etc+. I have not experienced banding shooting silent mode UNLESS there's poor quality LED lighting with incorrect frequency and/or I'm not within my freq range, TOO HIGH of a shutter where your shutter speed is faster than the ac freq... OR just piss poor builder grade lighting with mixed everything altogether. Always run a test shot or two and zoom in on your darks to check for banding before you officially start shooting and do what he said, turn on anti-flickering.

Excellent information Pierre. Especially the file format one in the first tip. For me personally, I shoot in RAW/DNG+JPEG. Why? Because yeah, while I might not want to edit it 'right now', what happens if I want to edit it down the road for someone? At least I have the RAW/DNG file there as a backup. Yes it takes up a lot of space on your memory card, but depending on your shoot and the size of your shoot, assuming your editing your photos right away or transferring your images to your computer or drive right away, you would be formatting your memory card in your camera (NOT on the computer) right after, which you should be doing after every shoot anyway. Also, whether you do it in camera (if it will let you), or do it in post, convert your JPEG files, to TIFF. Because from my understanding, although their file sizes are bigger than JPEG, they are similar to RAW files and relatively lossless. Because there is a danger that every time you open a JPEG file, you lose information each time. Whereas I believe you don't have that problem with a TIFF.

In Sony cameras it is extremely important to put frequently used settings in favorites, otherwise it can be difficult to find them at the right time. "God bless" those, who made a menu so complicated and illogical :)

@@angelevarcurioso8523agreed. I’ve used older Sony bodies with the older menu system and also have the A7IV with the new menu system. I never understood why people complained about the old menu system. Like anything, use it enough and it becomes muscle memory. The favorites menu is handy, and I use it for speed, not because I can’t remember where to find those settings.

The Fn menu on Sony bodies is great to supplement the “Favorite” menu, since it doesn’t take the EVF out of the live display.

What does silent mode have to do with banding? Was that clip meant for an earlier slot? Camera settings are difficult enough without you throwing something like this into the mix. Oh, and it would help if you could slow things down a bit so that I don't have to keep going back. Having said all that, thanks for your generally informative videos. 😊

Hi Pierre, I found this video very beneficial as I had Noise Reduction ON when doing long exposures. Especially Fireworks I miss a lot of good shots as it takes to long between shots. The Mechanical Shutter is another one I have to change, sometimes when shooting A nice Sport Car I have those distracting Headlights. I do like the Zebra Display. These small changes will make a big difference to the end result of my image. Thanks heaps Pierre that was Gnarly. 😊

When using Back Button AF there is no use case for S AF. Set it to C AF, press the button once and you have SAF, keep pressing it and it is CAF.
