Great video Mat. I'd just like to say thank you for including your struggles on Toto, and even volunteering the information that the footholds you were slipping off were part of the 6A stand. It has been incredibly valuable for me to see excellent climbers such as yourself struggle on lower grade moves. I had picked up a bad habit of blaming the climb/setting/conditions/my own body's perceived limitations etc. when I found myself in similar situations and too easily let myself be beaten (for Toto I'd probably have told myself I'm too heavy and it's a light person's climb). Realising that pros can have bad times on lower grades means that I'm more likely to spend more time trying to work my way through low grade moves I'm struggling with (I would even say that this was the main thing holding back my progession). So thank you for being one of the few who has shared that kind of experience publicly. I really appreciate the honesty. All the best.

Hey! Thanks for reaching out - and it’s my pleasure to share these moment. It’s just part of the game! I actually also have many self-critical thoughts that can become detrimental to my performance. I try to remind myself during these times that I’m only human and trying to force myself to be happy or positive isn’t always the answer. At the end of the day, we care about performance and that in itself has its ups AND downs. Getting spanked on things that should be easy for you happens to everybody, and more often than many like to admit!

Have you thought of projecting Tribe? Both Jacopo Larcher and James Pearson believe that in spite of being one of the hardest trad climbs, it might be more suited to a strong boulderer... so it sounds right up your street! Really nice video btw - thanks for sharing your journey :)
@Mat_Wright4 ай бұрын
Maybe someday! There’s just so much that I want to do in the UK. I don’t feel the need to have to travel for a project when there’s so many awesome things here still! Plus, the reality is Tribe would take me months and I’d rather wait until I could do it in a reasonable amount of time 😁
