True. I came here to say that. He was scouted because of how he looks, and he hated that everyone told him he would debut with a group just because of how he looked. He gradually started taking interest in dancing, got told off a lot by his teachers but now, at 21, these are the results. If that's not pure talent what is?

Hyunjin was street casted and he had no experience in dancing before. He trained for 2-3 years before debuting with Stray Kids. At the beginning he wasn't good and was scolded about his dancing skills, people keep telling him he doesn't need to do anything to debut because he can make it with his face only, but it hurt his pride to the point he started practicing extra hard, joined the SOPA and made his way to the Stray Kids as the main dancer. After debuting he took some classes of contemporary dance he showcased in his When The Party's Over dance (also choreographed by himself). But the main point why he became so good is that the dancing became his greatest passion. He is practicing almost his all free time, even other members said all he is thinking is dancing. He even said that when he want to take the break he thinks that someone over there is probably practicing right now so he just get back to training. You need to watch some compilation of his vlive dances, especially his freestyle dance, you can clearly see his passion and love for dance. Dancing and expressing himself by dance became his life. He treat it not as just work but a passion and art, he has really artistic soul, he can't help but creating art, trough his dancing, painting and even making bracelets. He is not just a dancer. He is an artist.

Not sure if you already know but hyunjin actually studied contemporary arts at SOPA (one of the famous school in South Korea, Seoul) that's why his moves are so crisp, smooth and very sharp and detailed. He rly worked hard through these years and im very proud of him :(

Hyunjin has only started dancing in 2016 when he joined JYP he does not know how to dance at all prior to that. So that's around 5 years. Imagine how much hard work he did to be this good at dancing in just a short span of time. Plus He has insane stage presence and charisma.

Thank you Chris for your reactions. It is was great to see a professional view on Hyunjin's dance covers. When Hyunjin was sought out he had no dancing skills at all prior to training. He has worked extra hard to be more than a beautiful face and to me he has gone above his expectations. I hope Hyunjin sees your reaction and gains even more confidence on how good he is. I never thought I would say that I would see someone as great dancer or as skilled dancer like Taemin until Hyunjin. He is right up there with Taemin and maybe a head of Taemin. For me that is saying a lot of how skilled, graceful and talented as Hyunjin is. How he combined all 3 styles of dance and made you feel a loss of words after his performance. I would pay big time to see this live for hours.

I might be over analizing this but this is my catch on this piece of art (Play With Fire): Did y'all notice the oufit that Hyunjin uses when he comes in? It's almost like a prince-esque type of look and most of princes in history are associated with what? Beauty. The image. Hence the mirror Hyunjin was looking while pulling his hair and tying it back with a ribbon - white ribbon (this is important). Most of the times KPOP idols have this "image" of beauty that they must keep and that keeps the people from seeing the true talent of the majority of these people - Hyunjin included. Then the chorus hits "I've always like to play with fire".. Hyunjin isn't known for being a melodical dancer, he's hard hitting and every move is crisp and sharp, burining up the stage but, at the same time, he's playing with us, slowing down some of his moves before hitting the sharp parts again, he's playing with us, like a match that's about to be lit. And did you notice another thing? The mirror is gone. Hyunjin isn't playing by the standarts anymore, he's not the "pattern" that people put him to be, he's not that same image, he's different, more mature. One other thing: 5:48 - 6:25 (on this video). He's not dancing to any beat, hence why there's no music, only small crackling sounds - fire burning. Hyunjin is playing again like the burning match being lit, when it catches that first grasp of power, then it crackles, then it comes back full force - his madness is rising like the fire. The white rose represents peace but, in some places, it's a symbol of being reborn.. of letting the time pass and heal the wounds so you can come back even harder, like a raging fire. And the white ribbon that I talked about earlier? Peace and rebirth within yourself. Hyunjin had the hiatus to focus on himself despite the troubles and to come back even stronger and harder like on this video. By the end.. the prince of the beginning is gone, he's in peace within himself and he became the Hyunjin that us stays know and love: The talented dancer, the incredible rapper and singer, the all rounder.. but also, the human. Hyunjin played with fire and it cleansed him and now he's better than ever. Again, this might be over analizing.. #welcomebackHyunjin.

I was waiting for your reaction to Play with Fire. I've noticed how you single out Hyunjin in your previous Stray Kids dance practice reactions. They change their hair a lot, but he's usually at the centre because of his stage presence. In God's Menu he was blond. You should also know, since you react to Kingdom, that apart from the first round (Introductory round) you won't see him in the rest of the episodes. Someone from his past, an old schoolmate accused him of bullying when he was 13 years old, and although the matter was seemingly resolved with a personal letter of apology and meeting with the alleged victim, the company put him on a 4 month hiatus during which the members weren't even allowed to mention his name. So this explains this choreography. All his stifled emotions during this period when he watched the other members perform, and he couldn't. It was hard for him and all Stays around the world. Thankfully, he's back!

When he was on hiatus he took more contemporary classes and the first thing Stays heared back from Him was Mixtape: OH (with the SKZ logo at the end in his Handwriting) Some people say the Playing with fire Dance was about his Idol life... he popped really hard at the beginning and danced great... then when the sound muffled out he was on his hiatus and because of his restrictions from the company the sound was muffled and thats what he felt right then. and after the music kicking back in the smurk he had on his face was his happyness he could perform again. so he is happy to show his skills once again. and during he hiatus he learned more of the contemporary dances. so the second video was really great example of it! I think he is the most expressive dancer in SKZ. They can all dance but his stage presence!!!

Hyunjin became the dancer today through extremely hard work over the years since he was street casted by JYP and all of his work has paid of in becoming pure eloquence in motion. "when the party's over" has such a heart-wrenching back story too (at least i think so), with hj saying he wanted to express how empty it felt since it was during a time when their fans couldn't come to music shows etc and he's not good at speaking so he uses dance to speak for him because he views it as another language. the fact it was the first self-choreographed piece he released is also significant. he's fantastic, i hope he continues to shine as a performer.

Nice reaction. Nice voice and good perception. You look good too. Your reaction video is very pleasant to watch. I am not exactly a Stay, but whenever I watch Stray Kids, my eyes would be on Hyunjin. He has such a stage presence and personal charm I found mesmerizing. I find that this Playing with Fire choreography of his is very different from the usual Kpop dances. It's not kpoppy at all but rather with a universal international vibe. He is not going through the moves, rather he is expressing his feelings through his moves. This is not the kind of dance just anyone could copy like most boy group dances. This dance feels freeing/liberating and we could feel every beat through his movement and presentation. It feels powerful yet natural. Although most parts are pretty aggressive there are subtle pullbacks and sensual moments as well at the right place of the song. I'd say he is daring and creative with this dance choreography. That is a good and refreshing thing. He has come a long way and has a long way to go with his determination and drive. Hyunjin has been improving leaps and bounds especially as a newbie scouted on a street. Like his earlier performances, the stage presence was not as pronounced as he has yet to find the power of eye contact and the importance of communicating with his facials and body expression especially with his eyes through the camera. And now he is a natural at it and topping it with exquisite body language as well. And it has been such a pleasure to watch him now. His hard work and never say die attitude won him his well-deserved recognition. I am so glad he is back with us once more.
