Making a list right now of EVERYTHING I need BEFORE we start a training session. I am so guilty of running back into the house to grab the treats or collar. Going one step further, I will prepare treats the night before and put everything in one place so right out of the crate in the morning I am ready to go! Absolutely love these podcast and I have gleaned so much from them. Thank you!

Thank you so much Susan for this podcast. I’ve so struggled with this rescue puppy and you’ve opened my eyes to the multiple mistakes I’ve been making. I’m definitely that “…sigh” person! 🥺

Hehe, that was so me!! I would forget everything at home. So I bought a treat bag that can hold her treats, poop bags (plus extra rolls), her clicker, and I have a tug toy/ball (a ball on a rope) attached to it with a caribeener and a water bowl. So whenever I go out with my dog, I just grab the bag, and everything is in there ready to go!!

I so agree. My girl is a Service Dog n she picked up on my cell from the start. I saw her face light up but then look sad I chose it over her. The day I realized I had not given our relationship the respect n value as similar to what I would do with a human friendship. Since that day when I changed my choices for us here's what I continue to reap daily. I can be in the kitchen n drop something that I can not pick up myself. She can be in the bedroom sleeping n hear it drop. She comes running to pick it up for me all the time! Without my asking for help. It pays to be in sync but the bonding relationship is undescribable! ❤️ Thank you for addressing this.

You've given me something to think about. Walking my dog and visiting with neighbors (socially distanced) is one of my few social opportunities during these pandemic times. I will have to think about how to make this more rewarding for my dog so it is win-win for both of us. Thank you, Susan.❤️

I came back to this episode today as I review how to help my excitable dog. Somehow I missed the bit at the end about bringing the Zen for high drive dogs the first time I watched it. I have however felt a natural observation that my dog doesn't need me to bring the party, and when I do he goes bonkers. I would love an episode on how to be more enthusiastically zen. When I try to bring the calm, I also feel like I bring the boring. Did you learn anything from working with Buzz that would help me figure out how to be game time fun, but also bring the calm? I definitely observe that my dog perceives failure from his inadvertent timeouts, that I didn't even know I was giving. Thank you for this entire podcast series. I gain so much insight, which is furthering my Recallers journey.

Oh boy, you have no idea how much I needed to hear this. Yes, that's *exactly* what I've been doing. Not during training, but many other times during the day. Poor boy! Guilty as charged of telling him excitedly we're going to the park, he gets excited, I forget one (or two) things, go get it, and wonder where his excitement went. Plus I think it makes him lose trust in me because he can't trust what I'm saying. So, from now on, no more saying we're going until I first make sure I've got everything. No more giving him time-outs without even realising I'm doing it. He's important. Building our bond is important. I need to communicate that to him. Thank you!!

Thank you so much Susan you're really helping me piece together my own moral compass. you're helping me become a better human. Not just a better dog dad but a better Father to my son, husband to my spouse, brother to my siblings, son to my parents, friend to my friends. A better all around man because of these principles. I'd liken you to the Great Uncle Iroh from ATLA. (He was really awesome if you don't know)

I’m introducing a 3 year old Jack/chi mutt to a 10week old grey tabby kitten.. today is day 6 and it is testing me. They are both actually doing great, scout, (the dog) barks a little less each day but he has been trained using treats and this introduction is making me very aware at where I’ve failed with his impulse to bark. We’ve let him bark to demand food, barking out the window was met with a time out. Now of course he is barking at the kitten, Gideon, when he moves too fast. I’m having to work on everything at once and it’s hard but he is doing better each day. Do you have any videos on this topic? Bark control, jealousy or impulse control. I think it’s a jealousy/impulse control issue right now he is used to being vocal when he doesn’t like or wants something so he is and when I’m giving attention to the kitten I’m giving less attention to him. Yesterday he started playing with toys while I was holding the kitten (wool balls) the kitten was just watching but as soon as I sat down he wanted to bark in the kittens face.

Our DPCA working evaluation requires just this scenario-walking up to somebody, talk to person while dog is ignored. I think CGC might also. Would be nice if AKC and other breed orginizations would be on board with this.

I would be very interested in what type of notes/comments/ observations etc you make after each session.. I also want to know - how do u get your dogs focus on you when they in a new environment and their are things that are basically over stimulating him.. obviously those other things are so much more interesting!! Maybe you have made a video??

I noticed, when walking dogs on leash and having my phone radio on*, ie I'm half listening, the dogs walk nicely..... However, if I ever answered a phone call (I have hands free) dogs started running back and forth/pulling on leash etc - I noticed this 1st 10 years ago and have tested a few times since and I swear it's because they KNOW my attention is divided.

Hello Susan, my dog is a mix of a couple of working breeds with very high drive. He moves extremely fast and it’s hard to reward the behavior that I’m wanting to do and I often end up rewarding the wrong thing. I’ll look through more of your videos to see if you’ve already addressed this but if not I’d love to know what you would suggest in more detail. As always, thank you for your videos- they have completely changed my training approach and my dog is happier and more confident than ever!

There's a lot of great info in this one about new puppy and people, but what about other dogs? I recently got a new BC puppy, but I also have other dogs and an Aussie puppy 9 weeks older than her. I did listen to a previous episode (all of them) about harmony in the home with other dogs, but how much time is safe to allow her to play with my other dogs each day? She really enjoys it, but I want her to value me above them and it seems even 5 minutes is enough to lose that. I also want her to tollerate-adore them. Thanks!

Oh my gosh, we have 5 people in agility class, so what am I doing when it is not my turn? Usually just holding my toy poodle (advised to hold so that big dog on course does not suddently think of him as a dog toy). So I really need to engage him while dog before me is on the course. Or sooner!

Awesome advice as usual. I was just talking to my husband about his need to be ‘present’ with our 13 mo Standard Schnauzer girl. He was at a friends home and did a great job engaging with Izzy until the friend arrived. Then as seems normal to those of us who are still learning, my husband took his attention from Izzy and focused his attention on the friend. I bet you can’t guess what behavior my mischievous little comedian started to engage in? She started to pester the friend and nip at his hands as the friend did whatever he was doing! Of course, this is pretty obnoxious behavior but maybe can be expected. I guess she is either trying to get the friends attention or trying to tell him to buzz off. Either way, the behavior is unacceptable and I’m trying to figure it out.

Gah seeing zombies staring into their phones while walking their dogs (even worse, while their no-manners-whatsoever off-leash dog does whatever they want) really grinds my gears. 😖 Btw. what can I do to increase my 1.5 y.o. resource-guarding, separation-anxious, novelty-fearful bc girl's confidence? 😓 Besides trick training, trying to set her up for success when learning, letting her "win" the tug...? Also, is it possible to somehow teach her to NOT try and go on her own to sniff/explore/bark at someone without seeking permission? I believe that's (mostly) due to her having too much freedom and space and zero management up until I picked her up at almost 3 months old. I also make a lot of mistakes (feeling incompetent and frustrated the main among them, and ADHD forgetfulness) that have surely added up to all that.😓 With my previous girl it all went as greased, and with her I just don't know what else to do.
