Being a car guy and not knowing Keiichi is like being in the rap game and yet not know who Eminem or the entire NWA members were. Keiichi is a freaking legend who not only teaches drifting, he also races in JGTC and even at Le Mans and won it twice. Not only that, the current format of Formula Drift that you have right now, it started from his competition-style championships before he made D1GP. He turned drifting international. Besides, before his drift bible, he actually had an even older video that showed his skills called Pulpsy which he took his AE86 (Yes. The same one with the green carbon hood now. Imagine him having the car for that long). He even got his racing license suspended for blatantly violating regulations by filming a dangerous act on public roads (The touges). However, that got soo much fame that everyone started drifting because of that clip and soon, due to his fame, he became one of the producers for Initial D in its manga and anime form respectively. Also, to boot, he too was one of the technical advisor for F&F Tokyo Drift. The fisherman you see at the pier fishing, scoffing at how terrible Sean was drifting, that was him. He too had a hand at training and pulling stunts for the show. Remember the whole scene of Sean trying to train on the mountains and failing? All of those "failed" stunts are done by Tsuchiya as he was the only ones out of the other technical stuntmen like Rhys Millen and even Tanner Faust failed to "fail" in style which, Tsuchiya had to step on the plate and he did it with relatively low reshoots per shot which even astonished the other people on set which, Tsuchiya mentioned that it was a hard task for him to fail too being naturally good at drifting. Guy is worthy of god status let alone god.

The Drift king does not have rely on too much power to drift, he relies on driving techniques. Especially since he started drifting when even supercars mostly had less than 500hp, and there are not many drift-specific aftermarket components yet. Now people can build 500hp K-swaps and LS swaps like it's nothing, and angle kits are readily available for purchase.

To me, this video points out how important it is, that whatever action you do in the car is done with purpose. Meaning, you don't shift unless you're gonna shift and you don't pull the handbrake unless you're gonna pull the handbrake. Which means there is no reason to have anything less than two hands on the wheel in between those moments lol.

Drifting is never quicker than a grip line no matter how tight nor twisty the course is. Keiichi would drift for the crowd when in front of his competitors to create more spectacle in the series he was racing in, he would almost be banned from racing competitively because of his extra-curricular illegal touge racing.

I think it's good to note that Tsuchiya was never a competitive drifter. He is a world famous racing driver who used to take corners sideways WAY back in the day and became known as the drift king. Yes he does drift a lot but afaik he never really did drift competitions, he was all about educating other people. He has a very respectable driving record and almost every japanese tuning garage wanted Tsuchiya to drive their car on the Option Video "Touge Tuner Battle" videos.

I think drifting modern cars with huge amounts of horsepower and rediculas angle is far easier than drifting low power cars. If you put half of today's formula drift drivers in an mx5/miata they would need a hell of a lot of practice before they could link even a small track . Thats where a lot of these techniques really come in to play.

Kunimitsu Takashi is considered as the father of drifting. Tsuchiya popularize it. Tsuchiya's drift with only 3 pedals and almost zero countersteer is a sight to behold. He doesn't even need a handbrake to initiate a drift. Just good ol' heel and toe. Slip angle is subtle but a car do slide. The speed is in km/h though.

Tsuchiya is the drift king of course. However Yoshinori Koguchi (OG Japanese professional driver) has got to be one of THE smoothest drivers i've ever seen. Especially the old videos of his 180sx when it was black, and some when it was later green. Back when big angle wasn't a thing and they drifted shallow, fast, and precise. A react to Koguchi drifting through the years from his old (i'm talking the footage came out on VHS Option videos) to his new stuff would be cool. He still drifts today too.
