Made in Austria. Don't worry about long reliability cause I still own a 1979 AKG K240 sextet headphones. Thumbs up to PROJECT. Thanks for sharing an excellent overview.

When they press in the grounding screw to the anodized metal it does not make contact.To the rca plug.And you will have hum.

@ptg01 - The Ortofon Blue (or red) cartridge needs to be purchased separately in Canada as well.

With this level of turntable I would get a better cartridge then a 2m blue. I had one on a $500. Fluance and found it to be lacking in the lower mids and base, so it was a bit bright.

Good Hank - this is a fine 'table, and can integrate well with a better cartridge, a wise investment. They do sell this as a 'table only for less money than with the Moonstone, which is actually a pretty good one for the money@@hank8499

I wonder if it manages to still be agile and dynamic. I find that some of the mass-loaded turntables are a little bit lacking when it comes to that.

Hello Mr T, Rega AEthos is a fine amp. The key connectivity with a balanced turntable is a balanced phono cartridge to a balanced phono preamp. It works best if you use balanced connections from that phono preamp to a balanced input on your integrated amp or preamp. But using RCA outs from the balanced phono preamp to your system still offers a lower noise floor, with better dynamic range than if you have an un-balanced signal all the way from cartridge to amplifier.

I digitized my LPs at a sampling rate of 96KHz 24 bit but the recordings didn't sound very impressive on my Project-Audio DACs. I've just upsampled one of the PCM files to a very large DSD256 audio file sounds amazing to my ears. Sounds like a veil has been lifted over this recording.

Gorgeous ! I wonder why the US unit come with a cheap Sumiko Moonstone whereas the rest of the world gets Ortofon Quintet Blue ? Per Pro-JECT (Non USA) , "The X8 comes factory set with or without an Ortofon Quintet Blue. This cartridge will perfectly set you up for the True Balanced experience" SMH....

Hello PTG, yes, a beauty. Pro-Ject USA also offers this as a no-cartridge 'table so you can match any cartridge you like, as 'table fans often have strong loyalties to specific cartridges. They also offer it with Moonstone at a strong value price for the combo (already mounted) so that folks who just want to start have a complete package. Then you can move up to a better cartridge over time. Our belief; they chose Moonstone as it's a really good one for the $, yet they can offer it at a key price-point of $2,499.
