Ok...so I’ve seen a lot of comments here of this amp being “too bright”, or “too harsh”. NOPE!!! I’m a Marshall guy first, and the fact that there’s some Fender cleans in there.....it then rips like a Marshall?!?! So awesome!! If you’re a Marshall/Rock player.....you need those highs and cut!! This amp might actually cut through a mix better than the Deluxe Reverb’s and Hot Rods. This is surprisingly good.

I agree, I have one of these and aside from colling the bias a bit, it's great as it is!

I have a Pro Junior IV and it isn't that noisy at full volume. A standby switch would be nice but it's not necessary. You can't go wrong with these amps. Delivers great power tube distortion and tone.

There are some noise gates on the market these days that are not noticeably interfering with tone that work well with amps like this, particularly the EH Silencer. In a live situation no one is going to leap up in the audience and yell "I can tell that note decay is being slightly effected by gating."

Fender does great baseline amps. The quality is questionable at times but the sounds they put out are just magic if you like the classic rock, rock, and blues sounds. I'm on my second 15G because they're made of crap, but they sound great for a small apartment. There's possibly a Bass Breaker in my future.

Been back and forth between before and after the mods, and I muck preferred the stock config. The tech did not help the amp with the upgrades. Others seem to agree. I'm not sure how you guys were thinking that shrill harsh tone in part 2 was an improvement. It almost sounded like you downgraded to a cheap 6" ceramic speaker. No offense.

I wonder how it would sound a Jensen Falcon 10. It's about the same efficiency as the p10r but will be a bit warmer and more punchy than the alnico.15 oz of cermic vs 7 oz alnico I have one,they are great sounding speakers,smoother on the attack and warmer than other ceramic speakers but more punchy than alnico speakers,I don't find them dark -just right actually..that they're affordable is the icing. And when it comes to measuring noise you cannot include the single coil hum or hiss from pedals,that is not the amp. PS: to take it a step or two further into blackface territory a bright cap on the volume pot would increase sparkle while a beefier OT would increase low end and punch/reduce compression.That with the Jet speaker I suspect would be an easy upgrade in that direction.Also russian 6p14p tubes (very rugged/long life el84 equivalents) are known to stay a bit cleaner and have bold lows as well as being able to handle much higher voltage and more abuse. Generally I'm not a fan of over modification but with about $150 in parts (including some nice signal caps and NOS carbon comps for select positions) you'd have a really nice amp.I believe these amps are now made of(or mostly) plywood - the benchmark for me in determining if upgrades are even worth it(why invest so much in a budget MDF/PCB amp?)IE Good chassis,PCB and plywood cabinet makes it more worthwhile to mod and spend a little more. In summary,$50 on the Falcon (or other ceramic of choice)will give you a bit more punch with plenty of sparkle(especially if a bright cap is installed on volume) without sounding too stiff.If you want more punch/stiffness yet the bigger OT will get you there,another $50 or so for a good OT.Also a bit of negative feedback would clean the amp up further(add bright cap to offset loss of sparkle if you like)..all depends on the tone you're after.

I'm really digging the content here at Guitarsenal, guys. I have a not-so-quick question for you, if you wouldn't mind answering. Whether or not this merits a video or just a comment is up to you, of course, but it might be an interesting video or video series. I have been playing guitar off and on for about 9 years now, so I'm not exactly new to the instrument, but I still definitely have room to grow. (Don't we all...) In my experience, learning music theory has all been fine and good, but I see a serious improvement in my chops when I learn a new tune that is just at the edge of my technical ability. I REALLY enjoy listening to your jazz and blues improvisations and would love to be able to build up my speed and style closer to where you are. I never quite know what tunes have the hidden technique gems in them until I get deep into them, and I definitely do not have the time to explore everything, even though that is probably the best answer to my problem. You definitely seem to have taken the time over the years to play through all sorts of stuff, so I thought I might try to tap into that experience here. So, finally, here's my question: would you be able to list a "Top 5 -" or "Top 10 -" songs for developing your Intermediate/Advanced (Jazz/Blues/Rock) Chops? My particular interests are obviously in Jazz and Blues playing, if you just wanted to answer this as a comment, but it could be expanded as a video topic organized by genre or style or musician. As I have been typing this, I realize that it is almost entirely dependent upon the individual's skill level and that this is kind of a ridiculous request, but maybe it sparks something to think about for you. Maybe a "Top 10" with "5 Beginner & 5 Advanced Tunes for the Jazz Woodshed" or something along those lines. If this exists on another channel, I do not know about it and am not advocating plagiarism or anything, I am just ignorant to that content. I'm a gun-guy, so cut me some slack. :) I am just curious if any particular tunes stood out to you as making a bigger difference in your playing or understanding than others and think it would be helpful if you shared that knowledge. Whatever the future holds, just know that I appreciate what you guys are doing and I value what you are sharing with both the gun and guitar communities. Keep it up!
@Iraqveteran88886 жыл бұрын
We will be happy to make that video. IMO the best way to get there is to learn how to develop your phrasing, vibrato technique, and learn how to control your bends really well, then forget it all. Seriously, 90 percent of that stuff is just noodling around and making happy mistakes.
@biggoat96 жыл бұрын
Excellent! So 'practice, practice, practice' it is! Thanks for getting back to me. I think the Tunes for the Woodshed would make an excellent video or series and I look forward to it with great anticipation. Maybe it is noodling around and happy mistakes that make great music. I just dig it.
@Iraqveteran88886 жыл бұрын
Thing is...don’t take yourself too seriously. The best advice I can give you for making a guitar sound good...everybody thinks a guitar has to play a bazillion notes with a ton of distortion. If in doubt, pick a note in the chord you are trying to play over and let it ring out. Then start finding invervals and notes above and below the notes in the chord. Learn how to arpeggiate chords
@biggoat96 жыл бұрын
Thank you. That seems quite sensible. I'll try to take that strategy and run. Maybe I'll have a breakthrough to report back to you one of these days.

Putting a 12" on a Pro Jr. makes for one of the punchiest amps ever. The original 10" speaker actually can't really handle the output from the original transformer. I've blown out the original 10" speaker, and my amp repair guy basically made me upgrade to a 12" for the gain you throw at it be playing it anywhere above 5 or so.
