This video was great! I'd love to see the format refined. I reckon the judges shouldn't know who did which boulder (though it may be obvious), and there should also maybe be a theme that should be aimed for. Something like "big moves", "pulling hard", "facing away" etc. just to try and bring the style of the competing boulders a bit closer

the thing is is that the idea of the competition was based on hold choice so they'd already know

I would also like to see the competitors to set with the same holds! When using different type of holds it is harder to compare.

Really loved the almost educational style of this kind of comp. I learned a lot about what makes a boulder good from a setters perspective. Definitely do more iron chef style setting comps.

This is a cool vid idea and format! I've been a routesetter for 7 years and mostly agree with the scoring. The only thing I might suggest is to add a scoring category for Fairness. For example, the blue boulder may seem V3 for a very tall climber or V6 for a very short climber. IMO, "accuracy" of grade is much less important since all grades are heavily based on a system of false precision.

They made it pretty clear that given the choice of holds they had at the beginning, the blue boulder could have been way more stylish. Of course those holds look better than the purple ones, no one is denying that.
@Jagknorr

@@moonti6820 yeah it did make sense when they said it was more of a grading based on potential of holds selection…but still !!! That purple one, to me, was muuuuch less inviting. 😆
