I've learned a few things from 50 yrs of hunting and having tracked wounded deer for other hunters. Just a idea--cut yourself a stick that's the length of a step or stride when you first encounter the trail. when you lose the track STOP and place the stick on the toe print of the last visible track ---next gently sweep away the leaves looking for a pressure imprint at the tip of the stick. I've used this tracking deer in leaves and trespassing hunters on my farm . People are much easier to track than deer. Deer can suddenly jump 12 ft in a totally different direction of travel. I once spent 4 hrs at night tracking a wounded deer for a friend. I found it. Great satisfaction. Hope this helps someone.

There is a slight difference to the track pursuit drill that we do down under. Cover man comes up and all members go to the knee to lower the patrols signature. And added process is to look through the vegetation for the quarry prior to moving forward as a lead scout. All senses are used prior to setting off on a trail. Sight, smell, sound and touch. Brilliant video

Great graphics and explanation of the basics mate. Those casting drills sure do soak up the time especially if you have to move from the initial cast into an extended cast. Patience, discipline and honesty are only a handful of the key attributes of a VT and team. This will pay dividends when a VT loses the sign. Maintaining discipline is paramount. Communicate whatever you are seeing to your VT2 who should be standing by the LDS and scanning his arcs. The "target," will almost always follow the path of least resistance. Track on and happy hunting mate.

Top quality as always. Just want to know if those steps also work when there is heavy rain, strong wind? And I know is not recommended to keep tracking during the night, but is it possible?
@borisvos19714 жыл бұрын
Carl Rey Wind and rain will deteriorate the sign faster. In this case, in the woods, the vegetation actually helps in protecting the sign, as it is less exposed. But you are right. Rain, strong wind, direct sunlight, other activity will all age the sign faster. And yes, you can track during the night if the substrate allows for it, using coloured lights or IR, specific formations and hard, hard work ;)
@frederik77654 жыл бұрын
Very impressive and an amazing high quality! But i have one Questions: The men you are searching for are possibly marching long distances; Isnt this Method to slow to find them in time? And i know...better than to have no clue where they went.
@borisvos19714 жыл бұрын
Outlaw Seven You answered the question mate ;) The problem, imagine my position; I know the track is between 4-8 hours old. However, there’s no guarantee they are not waiting in a ambush. With a visibility of at times a mere 5-10 meters, I have to be careful, especially because I can’t choose the ground I walk on. I have to follow the track. Now, ideally, there would be multiple teams. That’s why I’m updating C/S 0 about my location, age of sign and direction of the quarry. That way command can start putting other teams in. Unfortunately, I don’t have that luxury here. We will have to figure it out by ourselves 🙏🏽👊🏽
