I'm not fond of pop music, generally speaking, so...I guess I prefer the "classics"...I think it's where they really, really shine: Hallelujah, Sound of Silence, Imagine. What can I say? I'm old and like the old music, haha. Also, most of their Christmas music is incredible! Mary, Did You Know and Silent Night are probably my favorites of that genre. Then there are also some of their original songs that are wonderful: Standing By, Light in the Hallway.

@@ZebraGirl97 where did you find the info that avi plays the cello? He plays the guitar, I can find no reference to the cello. The person above was comparing avi's voice to a cello and I was saying to me it compares to a double bass. Thicker deeper... I'm very aware a cello is an instrument, so is a double bass. The cello was one of the reasons that Kevin was recruited into Pentatonix in the first place. The trio (Mitch, Scott, Kirstie) was looking for a couple of additions to their group when they were going on the Sing-Off. They found Kevin's celloboxing videos (beat-boxing while playing cello), and were blown away. He is a first-class, yes even world-class, musician, both on the cello and also on saxophone. This is early enough in Pentatonix's career that Kevin didn't yet sing much, so seeing how they were able to use his voice to such effect here was really beautiful.

The cello adds a 6th harmony line that is stunning. My favorite part is when they add in the harmonies one by one... Scott, Avi, Mitch, Kirstin, cello. Also, they said it was filmed to look look like a painting or photograph which is why everyone was so still. Really hard for hand-singers like Scott & Mitch!! @Barry took me a few hours to get on my laptop today its currently 21:30 on the US west coast I know its early morning for you now but this performance always makes me cry! your comment on Avi... he is a classically trained basso profundo and I feel like many others his /tone/ is truly like a Cello its truly beautiful Kevin Olusola created the technique called Celloboxing that is what he was doing in this performance another outstanding performance he uses that technique is the colab with lindsey stirling cover of Imagine Dragons Radioactive :-D

The Look of the video, on their faces and in their voices is how we feel when a relationship ends. They caught it to the point I cry. Thanks Barry, always love to see your smiling face!

Another PTX song that features Kevin celloboxing is their cover of “Shallow”. It features Kirstie’s vocals as well. Two more treats are songs that have Kevin on the cello plus Lindsey Stirling on violin. Those are an Imagine Dragons cover of “Radioactive” and a Stromae cover of “Papaoutai”, performed in French.
