IMO, the sword is the best weapon. Dash, sword, takes out lots of enemies. It also has just about no charge time. I just made it to rank 443 with using only the sword.

I actually really love the sword for the first 2 worlds at least. The fact that it has no cooldown and enemies destroyed with it do not trigger their after-death effect like those beyblade enemies or the ones that send out the extending ring of lasers makes it quite useful imo. Also I assume you know about the way it combos with the dash. Although who am I to give you advice...I'm not the one on top of the leaderboards :D

Lots of useful tips but the first one was something I didn't know about; that human have an ever-shrinking circle around them that allows you to see your human combo meter 'in-game'. I always thought it was counter-intuitive to have to look away from your character to see the meter in the top-right corner. Thank you.

The sword is definitely the most challenging pickup to abuse. As David Castle pointed out, you can combo the dash and swipe to hit more enemies, but more importantly, the sword will also destroy all projectiles save for the pink lasers and the electric cables you can't dash through. combining sword with triple dash might be really good, actually.. gonna have to test it.

i'm no master by far but maybe it's my radiant silvergun roots, i found the sword to be quite useful... combined with dash you could pretty much kill most big enemies much like using a smartbomb but with quicker regen... i'll play a bit more before having a definitive take on the power ups and the game - but i'm liking what i've played... probably my favorite housemarque game by far.

DjDedan Sword easily prevents you from being overwhelmed by fat enemies without main weapon upgrades. Kills fat enemies without losing any time, possibly during dash. But of course the ability of laser to erase big groups of enemies is unmatched.

The sword is kind of an alternate smart bomb that doesn't work on lasers. It does create a small shield of death around you that destroys bullets. Dashing with the swords cuts with the whole dash allowing you to kill as as you dash. Kind of like the laser dash, but much more damage. Combined with the dash explosion this makes dashing extremely safe and powerful.

I started using the dash explosion offensively just a week ago and it improved my game massively. In one of the early levels in world 3, you spawn in with enemies on the left of you and are cut off from the rest of the arena to the right. As soon as you kill all enemies on your side, the bridge to the other side opens and two humans are being harvested immediately while a whole lot of small enemies come at you and block your way. If you just shoot the harvesters, it's almost impossible to save both humans. But when using the triple dash and the dash explosion aggressively, you can easily get in, destroy both harvesters, save the humans and get back out before being swarmed. That's just one example of the usefulness. The tip to actively use the dash explosion can't be stressed enough.

Careful though. I wouldn't recommend using dash explosions offensively without triple dash. Also try to always keep one dash to be able to dash out in case you fucked up. If you dashed twice already, wait until you get your 3 dashes back then use it offensively. - Switcherze

Oh, yeah. That's definitely true. You should always keep one dash just in case. Although I usually use the smart bomb, which softens this rule a bit because it's another "oh shit"-button. You can be even more aggressive with that combo, although I'm aware that sometimes different weapons are a better choice. My 2nd favorite choice it the detonator, for the reason mentioned in the video. Being able to delete a whole wave of bullets every few seconds can be immensely helpful in certain situations. It's also fantastic in levels with distant threats, like the towers that spawn laser rings in world 4.

I used to hate the Sword too. Then I grew to love it. Second weapon of choice behind Powershot. Combine Sword with a Dash and you'll careen through enemies with ballistic ease. I find it's better to pick your sub weapon based on what powerups you get first. Triple Dash + Explosion? Go Sword. Shield + Range + Spread? Go Powershot.

Pretty new to the game, but doing well so far. These tips are awesome! Previously, I was using the sword to dash and slice bigger bosses that would normally take quite a few bullets, which works pretty well as you can dash and slice quickly. However, I wasn't taking into account many of the strategies mentioned here.

Ok so those were the basic 'tips'. Here are most useful ones. 1- The Human combo is NOT important unless you want to 100% the world. It's in fact more of a problem keeping a steady rhythm than not worrying about it. It's way wiser that you take your time to clean levels. 2- The main weapon upgrades should be the #1 priority. Fighting the Supreme AI with no triple dash or weapon range is almost impossible to achieve. Fully upgraded weapon = 5 beams No upgrades = 1 beam 3- Unlike the video's author recommends, ALWAYS dash. Be constantly on the MOVE. BUT don't use all your dashes at once in a big boost. Use it one at the time so it can also trigger the dash explosion hence potentiate the damage. 4- Again, unlike the author said, the sword is actually one of the best weapons of the game alongside the rocket launcher. Avoid double-action secondary weapons such as the powershot and detonator. 5- Level end dash is not important. It only gives you 1000 point if you succeed. However you shouldn't choose to level dash instead of picking up an item last minute.

I will probably agree about Detonator. Very cumbersome to use. But can be a life saver in the hands of a skilled player for its ability to instantly destroy strong tricky enemies at a great distance. Humans are important for high score as they really help with the score multiplier. Ignoring humans leads to a much lower score. Picking up items at level end is not necessary, because they are picked up automatically, unlike humans which are lost if not saved. Some items like extra lives never disappear and I don’t bother picking them up before the level ends.

My question is about speedruns - one of the feats is finish the first level on rookie in under 5 minutes - I can't get lower than about 5:14 - which is still faster than the "speedruns" I've found on youtube. Am I missing something??!

The PowerShot is my favorite because it destroys everything in it's path. On the sword though you can use it in combo with a dash to take out a lot of enemies. Still prefer the PowerShot though

You're not alone ! It doesn't eat bullets but it clears some space around you and it can clear an entire wave of troublesome ennemies. Secret exits, beacons and even disruptors are easy targets thanks to the powershot. When used right, it's as destructive as the laser, if not more, and without the reduced movespeed. - Switcherze

Okay about chaining humans... how much does it actually effect score? Reading the end world score screen, it doesn't much matter too much. I'm wondering if killing all enemies is multiplied by the human chain? Oh, you just mentioned the multiplier filling up is heightened with a larger human combo. Can you explain this further.

The human combo is MASSIVELY important to getting big scores. At the end of the level, your maximum chain is multiplied by 2000, and then by your multiplier. If you can get a human combo of 200 X 2000 X 100 (max MP) that's big points!

in the cooldown list, wth is f supposed to mean? s ofc means seconds but i have never once seen f as a time measure XD i cant even find anything about this when i google it

In the video, if you look at the bottom of the weapon cooldown chart it states that S=Seconds and F=Frames.
