Best pro tip is: Play like trash in Quick Play to lower your stats(all modes share the same MM stats) then profit in Ranked, rinse and repeat when you feel the artificial difficulty increase in Ranked. Yeah the system is broken, no point in caring about Ranked at this stage anyone can be Onyx.

Would disagree on Gold, but would love to see platinum +. At gold and maybe even platinum you really just need to work on your aim tbh. No need for breakdown.

@@chefpollo6037 Something I’ve noticed is the difference in approach to the game between lower level players and higher level ones I have friends who can match me for aim, but they are D3, and I’m Onyx 1750. Aim can get you so far, but as players who are more involved (I’m imagining you have a similar experience to me) we often forget the small things that are second nature to us E.g. Don’t chase every guy you get one shot, basic understanding of where spawners will be, instinctively looking for where your team mates are, or even just not pushing an fight with a player disadvantage (it’s amazing how often I see players do this and wonder why they died) There are 100’s of little things like this that more experienced players “just know” but less experience players don’t even think about, and I think it can be great for top player like Lucid to try and go back to basics sometimes and show new players the ropes

Extremely informative gameplay breakdown. Gaining an advantage off spawn no matter how small is the message I got out of this, but that’s what made Lucid as a player unique compared to other pros earlier on. He used the entire sandbox to his advantage.

To add to Lucid’s point he makes around the 4 minute mark… at the beginning of the game most people coming through that bottom tunnel to sword is probably gonna have repulsor cuz that’s where it spawns so to just jump out there is risky
@vectorvictor6181
@vectorvictor6181 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah depending on my spawn side I play for repulsor over thee sword and repulse either the players that jump down to the sword. Or if they are smart and try using plasma nade I repulse the sword back to pit.
@FiscoInferno

That's why i always use plasma nades to retrieve the sword, it's by far safer. Btw in solo q you have to check the situation too cause if you spawn long hall at the beginning of the match enemies coming from elevator usually have the upper hand if you run like hell for plasmas

awesome to hear how you are willing to accept responsibility for your losses. I had a game i went 56-20 and still lost I wanted to blame my team but I died way too much and had so many misplays in hindsight I know i didnt deserve to win. Also when I choose to play with lower level people I dont ever put pressure on them to carry or do well, I asked them to play with me so no need to be a dick to them.
@Eojx
@Eojx 2 жыл бұрын
If you went 56-20 against players of a similar skill level in an obj game it is perfectly reasonable to chalk up the loss to your teammates not holding up their end of the bargain. One of the things I'll never forget from a pro LoL player breaking down one of his viewer vods many years ago was him saying "one way to continue climbing in a ranked playlist if you are NOT the one carrying is to make yourself carryable." That applies to ANY team game. Say for instance you were playing oddball and going off, your teammates need to recognize that and grab the ball so you can focus on slaying out, or if they're having an off game and can't shoot straight they need to focus on calling people out or following you around and assisting you with ANY dmg they can deal. Every player has off games, even the most dominant players. Recognizing when you're having an off game and letting someone else be the star is one of the signs of a truly good player.
@4bidn1
@4bidn1 2 жыл бұрын
@@Eojx Yeah but you also cant control your teammates and so you're not really doing yourself any favours blaming them EVER even if it's true, it's better to look at a game from the lense of "ok that was a rough loss but I could definitely improve in 'X' area ill try that next time"

The problem is not that this player dropped from onyx to diamond. The problem is that the ranking system is so business being onyx in the first place. This is plat gameplay. He has no fundamentals. There are way too many bad players in onyx and they need to have 1% of the population at onyx and not 30 or 40% like it is now. Also this guy is a d rider

@@wreckfest3728 I mean, I usually have a warm up match in quick play. Finding ranked matches has been pretty slow and I don't have a lot of time. I've played against a few Onyx who weren't very good. All it takes is time, I suppose. Though I'm not too sure if this tactic would work. The stats are shared across playlists, sure, but the ranked matches are usually on a more equal footing. I never get mad at players who don't do too well in a game. I'll get in games where there's a person just crying non-stop and he keeps saying "every team I get in is shit" but people fail to realize that the only constant in the game after game is the single player. That being said, a lot of people don't really talk much or play too well to the objectives so it's hard.

Good breakdown and some awesome points. I think a lot of people think their victory has to come through "montage plays" when often times, the simplest solution tends to be best. Back in the Halo 2 days, I feel like a lot of people relied too heavily on BxB, BxR and RRx in fights where, if they had just been more situationally aware and put themselves in a good position, they may not have needed it. Also, egos kill. This need to be the star player makes you rush and play out of position. If you just slow down a hair and take what they give you, it usually goes better. Map control, weapon control, spawn control and eventually objective control in that order. I'm glad high level guys are able to get this kind of stuff out into the world and at least Lucid doesn't sound like he's so high on himself that he breathes his own farts or something.

At 3:34 - or 39 seconds into the clip I’d also say that rather than dropping down for sword, trade a plasma nade and combat evolve it up to you. in this situation it would have netted 2 kills and in general is way safer than jumping down there. + with the plasma grenades spawning on C, you’re not even wasting a nade.

Second best pro Onyx tip is: Play like trash in Quick Play (5-10 matches?) to lower your stats(all modes share the same MM stats) then profit in Ranked no sweat, rinse and repeat when you feel the artificial difficulty increase in Ranked. Yeah the system is broken, no point in caring about Ranked at this stage, anyone can be Onyx regardless of actual skill level.

There are not many better then Tom (Lucid) at map understanding and movement.. if you watch his streams you would think he is walling because he always knows where the enemy is, but it’s just testament to how amazing his awareness is.. really one of the best itw

Turned a 5-6 minute game into a 23 minute breakdown. That's insane. People who want to improve watching this are finding a gold mine. Keep this going please brother.

Awesome video! Straight up was about to unsubscribe, but then watched this whole video and I learned a lot. It’s very entertaining watching you pull off those crazy plays and have those dominating game performances, don’t get me wrong! It inspires me, but it’s just so difficult when I then hop on ranked and can’t drastically improve my CSR because of losses where I feel like my teammates aren’t playing like how I watch the pros play each gametype. I’m low level Onyx but there’s a lot I need to work on - need to be team focused and not a lone wolf. Thanks for doing this kind of video, Tommy!

Gotta give some respect to Sean (Shawn?). Sometimes it’s difficult for someone to let his/her ego go in order to grow. It probably hurt a little inside as lucid tore apart his foundation of gameplay, but he took it like a champ and it’s obvious he’s gonna grow from it!
